Drivers should plan for overnight ramp closures on Interstate 17

Also plan for single-lane closures on cross streets and watch for flaggers in work zones

If you’re driving north of the Valley this week, plan for overnight on- and off-ramp closures on Interstate 17 between Coldwater and New River roads. Paving work in conjunction with an ongoing highway improvement project is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Feb. 21.  Travel lanes on cross streets also will be impacted while work is underway. The following restrictions are scheduled this week:

  • The southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp at Coldwater Road, the westbound travel lane on Coldwater Road and the southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp at Table Mesa Road will be closed from 6:30 p.m.Tuesday, Feb. 21, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22.  Alternate route: Use Rock Springs Road. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone.
  • The southbound on-ramp and northbound off-ramp at Coldwater Road and the eastbound travel lane on Coldwater Road will be closed from 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23. Alternate route: Use Old Black Canyon Highway. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone.
  • The southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp at Table Mesa Road will be closed from 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23.  Alternate route: Use New River Road.
  • The southbound on-ramp at Rock Springs Road will be closed, and the southbound frontage road will be narrowed to one lane only, from 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, to 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24.  Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone. Alternate route: Use Coldwater Road.
  • The southbound off-ramp at New River Road will be closed, along with the westbound travel lane and center turn lane on New River Road, from 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, to 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24.  Alternate route: Use Anthem Way. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic through the work zone.

PLEASE NOTE: Additional closures and restrictions impacting New River and Rock Springs roads are being scheduled for the week of February 26 through March 3. Additional information will be provided as schedules are finalized. As always, schedules are subject to change because of weather and other unforeseen factors.
The $10.8 million project includes removing a layer of the existing pavement and applying a new layer of smooth, quiet rubberized asphalt. Crews will also install guardrails, complete necessary bridge work and make other roadway improvements. Work is scheduled for completion by summer 2017.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
