Disney Introduces First Openly Gay Character
Can't wait to see Disney's new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast? Well be prepared - the "tale as old as time" may not be quite how you remember it. The movie marks a Disney first - the inclusion of an openly gay character - LeFou, the sidekick of bad guy Gaston! Director Bill Condon, who is gay himself says there's "a nice, exclusively gay moment" in the film involving LeFou that he won't divulge. LeFou "one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston. It's somebody who's just realizing that he has these feelings." However, one viewer who's seen the movie tells the New York Times that the so-called "gay moment" is so subtle that viewers may miss it - just as they might've missed possible hints that other Disney characters are gay, including Oaken in Frozen and Timon and Pumbaa in The Lion King. Incidentally, the movie is also dedicated to Howard Ashman, a gay man who wrote song lyrics for the 1991 original before his death from AIDS at age 40, eight months before its release. Producer Don Hahn once said the song "Kill the Beast" is "almost a metaphor" for Ashman's battle "with a debilitating disease, in an era when it was stigmatized." (New York Times)

Please! Anybody! Where Are the Intelligent Frat Boys? Where?
Up at Central Michigan University, Teresa Seely's 19-year-old son appears to be the victim of a hazing incident at the off-campus Alpha Chi Roh fraternity. It seems her son had passed out and other frat boys saw that as an invitation to rub peanut butter all over his face. One big problem - the boy has a severe peanut allergy and he very easily could have died. His face became instantly swollen. The boy only now told his mother about the incident and showed her photos of his swollen face. His mother took to social media to express her outrage and post the pictures. Alpha Chi Rho is not a recognized frat at the university and was shut down in 2011 because of other hazing incidents. But members of the fraternity told local reporters that it was a joke, that the incident was blown out of proportion and that they had no idea Seely's son had a peanut allergy. In the meantime, Seely has filed police reports and the students involved could face suspension, pending further investigation. (Pix11.com)

Couch For Sale! Comes With Bonus!
In Fort Pierce, Florida, a woman bought a couch through a Facebook ad. As soon as she got it home she decided to call police, because along with the pillows and cushions she found a "greenish leafy substance" that officers later identified as marijuana. The buyer also told police as soon as she got home she got a text message from the seller to "call her as soon as possible." The seller said she left an "item of value" in the couch and wanted it back. When the buyer texted back that she was calling police, the seller "began texting her using vulgar language and advised her she was stealing from her." Oddly enough, when police went to the seller's home and spoke with her, she suddenly did not want to file a report on the item she had left inside the couch or report a theft. (TC Palm)

Pastor Charged in Granddaughter's Death of Pneumonia
In Pennsylvania, the Rev. Rowland Foster is the pastor of a Faith Tabernacle Congregation - a church that shuns modern medicine. As a result, when Foster's toddler granddaughter got pneumonia, he along with his son and daughter-in-law refused to seek any medical treatment. The poor child died and now all three are in trouble with the law. The Rev. Foster has been charged with failing to report a suspected case of child abuse - which is his legal obligation as a pastor. Authorities say Foster anointed 2-year-old Ella with oil in a failed attempt to heal her. Foster explained to state police that the church "does not believe in medical care and that he had not been to a doctor in his 70 years." Ella's parents, Jonathan and Grace Foster, were charged with involuntary manslaughter. Police have said Jonathan Foster attributed Ella's death to "God's will." The couple gave up custody of their six other children. A forensic pathologist told investigators Ella would have had a 95% chance of surviving if she had been given a routine course of antibiotics. At least 27 Faith Tabernacle children since 1971 have died of preventable or treatable illnesses, according to a running tally kept by Children's Healthcare Is a Legal Duty, an advocacy group that opposes faith-based medical neglect. Several church members have been prosecuted for failing to seek medical care for their children. (Newser)

Peeps Oreos Have Unexpected Side Effect
The latest cream flavor to come out of something called "the Oreo Wonder Vault" apparently, has quite an unusual side effect. Two weeks ago, Oreo released a limited edition of its cookie with a vanilla shell and a filling flavored like the love-it-or-hate-it marshmallow candy Peeps. One reviewer claims the filling is the same one used in the Marshmallow Crispy Oreos, but with one major difference: It's bright pink and appears to turn your mouth - and subsequently your poop bright pink! One Twitter user tweeted: "My spit looks like Pepto-Bismol" hours after eating the cookies! Another said, "My roommate ate a whole pack of Oreo Peeps and left a pink stain in the toilet." While Oreo has yet to comment, USA Today previously reported that stuffing your face with foods heavy in dyes can produce "a greater spectrum in your rectal rainbow." (USA Today)

Snapchat Stunt Kills Teen
A teen in Singapore ended up killing himself while attempting a Snapchat stunt that failed miserably. Jonathan Chow, 17, leaped over a railing at a shopping mall expecting to land on a ledge. But the surface collapsed under him, and he plunged four stories as a horrified friend looked on. Identified only as Ruth, the friend told reporters that Chow proposed staging the stunt as they shopped for clothes at the Orchard Central Mall. He told her: "Help me take a Snapchat video and I'll jump." Ruth added, "I knew it was dangerous, but before I could stop him, he already jumped over." Leaked surveillance video shows Chow and the girl standing next to a four-foot glass railing before Chow jumps over. Both teens thought the ledge was made of concrete "but when he jumped, he fell straight through." The ledge was actually flimsy plasterboard not intended to bear weight. (New York Post)

Depravity Beyond Comprehension
A UK woman was almost to her front door in east London when 28-year-old Derry McCann pulled her into bushes at Victoria Park, raped her for two hours - and then left to go get married! McCann later confessed to what prosecutors called a "sustained and systematic" attack. A prosecutor described how he played "mind games" with his 24-year-old victim, asking her what she thought he would do next, as he beat and raped her. He then snapped photos of her, told her she was lucky he didn't record the rape, stole her phone, and took off. Just hours later, McCann was at his own wedding, marrying his pregnant partner. It gets worse. This wasn't McCann's first rape and a judge predicted this would happen again back in 2006. The judge described that attack as a "clinical enactment of a catalog of sexual desires" that amounted to "torture" and said there was a "very substantial risk" McCann would re-offend. He was given a sentence of nine years to life. Nevertheless, McCann was eventually released from prison in 2015 and some are now calling for a public inquiry into his case. He is due to be sentenced in the latest case on April 28. He again faces life for three counts of rape, one count of assault, and one count of robbery. Can't even begin to think what his new wife thinks of all this. (Newser)

What the WHAT?
A British company claims to have created the world's first "smart condom" which not only helps the wearer detect STDs - it also rates your performance! Working kind of like a FitBit for...down there...it provides all kinds of data like duration of intercourse, calories burned, number and speed of thrusts, girth measurements, and different positions used per week, month or year. It will also help detect sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia and Syphilis. Of course the company says all the data they collect will be kept completely anonymous. But I think that's also what Ashley Madison said. Similar way to other health monitoring devices, it will use nano-chip and Bluetooth technology to relay the data to a smartphone app. (FOX News)
