DO YOU NEED HELP?

(Men's Health) If you struggle with any of these common conditions, a mental health professional can help:

Anxiety
Anxiety disorders keep 18 percent of U.S. adults on edge. People with generalized anxiety disorder might worry excessively about everyday problems including money, health, work, relationships for months.

Depression
Each year, about 7 percent of us experience a major depressive episode that lasts two weeks or longer. In men, depression often goes undetected because it manifests as anger, not sadness.

Substance abuse or dependence
Substance-use disorders are quite common and often occurs alongside depression or anxiety, says Ken Duckworth, M.D., of the National Alliance of Mental Illness.

Sleep Disorders
Up to 70 million Americans have chronic sleep problems, and for some it's serious. Mood changes, impaired cognitive function, and unexplained fatigue could signal a sleep disorder such as insomnia or obstructive sleep apnea.

Social Anxiety
About 7 percent of Americans suffer from a persistent, intense fear of being judged. If you often fret about social events that are weeks away, go blank during conversations, or get sick to your stomach in crowds, consider treatment.

ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder usually shows up by age 12, but it can be undiagnosed in adulthood, manifesting as impulse-control issues with emotions, food, substance, and trouble planning or committing. Another: road rage.

PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder can strike after sudden or repeated trauma. People with PTSD may have flashbacks or nightmares, suffer angry outbursts, feel constant fear, or withdraw from others.
