Plan for overnight closures of Interstate 17 in Phoenix next week Crews restart work to install traffic-flow sensors

  • Overnight work to install traffic-flow sensors will close sections of Interstate 17 in Phoenix beginning 
  • Monday, May 15, and continuing through Friday, May 19. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following freeway closures are in place:
  • Southbound I-17 will be closed at Peoria Avenue from 9 p.m. Monday, May 15, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, May 16. The southbound Thunderbird and Cactus roads on-ramps will also be closed. DETOUR: Traffic will exit at Peoria Avenue and can follow the frontage road to access southbound I-17 at the Peoria Avenue on-ramp. 
  • Southbound I-17 will be closed at Dunlap Avenue from 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 17. The Cactus Road and Peoria Avenue on-ramps to I-17 will also be closed. DETOUR: Traffic will exit at Dunlap Avenue and can follow the frontage road to access southbound I-17 at the Dunlap Avenue on-ramp. 
  • Southbound I-17 will be closed between Northern and Glendale avenues from 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, to 5 a.m. Thursday, May 18. The Dunlap Avenue on-ramp to I-17 will also be closed. DETOUR: Traffic will exit at Northern Avenue and can follow the frontage road to access southbound I-17 at the Glendale Avenue on-ramp.
  • Southbound I-17 will be closed between Glendale Avenue and Bethany Home Road from 9 p.m. Thursday, May 18, to 5 a.m. Friday, May 19. The Northern Avenue on-ramp to I-17 will also be closed. DETOUR: Traffic will exit at Glendale Avenue and can follow the frontage road to access southbound I-17 at the Bethany Home Road on-ramp.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
