Northbound Interstate 17 and ramps at I-17/I-10 “Stack” interchange closed this weekend for lane striping

Drivers who use I-17 in Phoenix should plan for lane and ramp closures and potential delays while a $9.8 million improvement project continues:

Northbound I-17 will be closed between 19th Avenue and Thomas Road from 10 p.m. Friday, June 16, to 5 a.m.Monday, June 19, for lane striping on new rubberized asphalt pavement.
At the “Stack” interchange, both I-10 ramps to northbound I-17 will be closed along with ramps from northbound I-17 to I-10.
Westbound Thomas Road will be narrowed to one lane at I-17 for new bridge-fence installation.

Drivers should use alternate routes, including westbound I-10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to northbound State Route 51 to westbound Loop 101. Northbound I-17 drivers who exit at 19th Avenue can use 19th Avenue or the northbound frontage road but should expect heavy traffic and delays.

The work is part of the ongoing pavement-improvement project on I-17 between Dunlap and 19th avenues. Work includes putting down a new layer of smooth, durable rubberized asphalt on north- and southbound travel lanes and making improvements to pedestrian facilities at the cross streets. Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or email Projects@azdot.gov. For real-time highway conditions statewide, visit ADOT's Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov, follow ADOT on Twitter (@ArizonaDOT) or call 511, except while driving.

Crews have been working since March to repave a stretch of I-17 in Phoenix with smooth, durable rubberized asphalt. Paving of the northbound lanes is complete, so permanent lane striping is underway.
