Delays possible on Interstate 10 in Benson, Tucson overnight Saturday, July 15

Drivers with plans to drive Interstate 10 between Benson and Tucson this weekend could experience delays as the Arizona Department of Transportation works to accommodate a large-capacity, oversized load.

A transport vehicle hauling an oversized turbine base is scheduled to use the westbound I-10 travel lanes to head east on I-10 between exits 303 and 302 in Benson and again on the I-10 frontage road in Tucson between Kolb and Craycroft roads. The transport is scheduled to occur between 10 p.m., Saturday, July 15, and 6 a.m., Sunday, July 16. I-10 will be closed for approximately one hour as the transport occurs, and law enforcement officers will be on site to stop traffic.

Drivers can use State Route 83, SR 82 or SR 80 as alternate routes.

The transport will take approximately 60 minutes if the load is able to maintain an average speed of 50 mph.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors.
