Fort Huachuca MWR Highlights Beginning July 17

-Fort Huachuca will hold the “2017-18 Back to School Fair,” July 17 from Noon-4 p.m. at Gen Myer Elementary School. Information will be provided about the following: Immunizations, and health appointments, school registration, meet and greet the principals, bike safety, special education support, youth clubs, sports, AND much more! -Sports, Fitness and Aquatics has set the final event for the 2017 Aquathlon for July 21, 6 a.m. at Irwin Pool. The competition consists of a 300 yard swim (6 laps) and a 3-mile run, out and back. Two-person teams are allowed, with each person completing one of the two events. Team or individual Memorandums of Intent are due by e-mail two days before each event to cassandra.l.brown34.naf@mail.mil. Awards will be presented to the top 6 teams and the top 6 individuals. -Yardley Community Center, located across from Eifler Fitness Center in the former Yardley Dining Facility, is now open during the following hours: TICKET SALES, Monday- Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; OPEN REC, Monday-Wednesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday. -Buffalo Corral Horseback Riding Stables now offers two-hour, guided sunset trail rides every Friday AND Saturday. Exact time depends upon the season. Cost is $45 for Active Duty or $55 for civilians. Reservations are required for all trail rides. -From now through Aug. 2, Irwin Outdoor Pool is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday. For holidays and training holidays during that time, they are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Barnes Indoor Pool Summer Hours: open only 5 a.m.-8 a.m., Mon.-Fri., for Lap Swim and PT. For more information, call 533-3853.

-The new MI Coffee Kiosk, located in the MI Library, Bldg. 62723, is now open Mon. - Fri., 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. They offer a variety of “liquid energy,” such as lattes, tea, espresso, and of course, coffee, plus muffins, chips, Danish and other goodies. For more information, call 538-0345.

-The next Right Arm Night is set to start at 4 p.m. July 28 at Desert Lanes Bowling Center. The theme for this RAN is “Patriot’s Celebration.” Enjoy free finger foods, a pay-as-you-go bar, and win prizes in drawings and contests. -Yardley Community Center will hold the Grand Opening of their newly completed snack bar, to be known as “Knead To Know Pizza,” Thursday, Aug. 3, with the Ribbon Cutting set for 10:30 a.m. and the Grand Opening to follow, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. KTK Pizza will feature hand-made pizza and short order menu items, and will be open to all military and civilians who have access to Fort Huachuca. -The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers “Sip & Create” Friday or Saturday, Aug. 5, 18 and 19, 7-9:30 p.m. at the 19th Hole Lounge at Mountain View Golf Course. Cost is $35 per session, per person and includes the 16x20 canvas, paint, aprons and two beverages (wine, beer, soda or water), plus instructions from the artist-in-residence, to create an original piece of art. -Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program provides job search services and resources, to include the following: Kathryn Troutman, President of The Resume Place and federal resume guru, will speak Aug. 11 at Murr Community Center. -The final remaining local qualifying race for the 2017 Army 10-Miler will be conducted Aug. 12 beginning at 6 a.m. at Brainard Road, west of JITC. Active Duty personnel who will be assigned to Fort Huachuca as of Oct. 10, 2017 are eligible to try out. Entry is free and sign-up will be held the day of the each event. Participants must be able to attend a minimum of three practices per week. The Army 10-Miler is set for Oct. 10, 2017 in Washington, D.C. For more information, call 533-3180 or 533-2948.

-The MWR batting cages, located off Hatfield across from the Mini Mall, are now operational and open to the public during daylight hours. (We are still working on a timer for the lights.) The cost is 4 quarters (25 cents) for 10 pitches. Users must bring quarters, since no change machine is available. Slow and fast pitch softball and baseball lanes are available. -The MWR Arts & Crafts Center offers Pick-It-and-Paint Ceramics every Friday and Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Pick out a ready-to-paint cast ceramic piece and paint it any way you want. They have something for everyone--from dinosaurs to coffee cups. Costs vary depending on pieces selected. Children 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. -Thunder Mountain Activity Centre’s lunch buffet is now served Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu features: Wednesdays, TMAC will be “Famous BBQ Ribs,” and other BBQ selections and sides--Just what you need to get over your mid-week hunger; Thursday features German food, with “Taste of the Rhine;” and Friday they offer the “Fried Fish and Chicken Friday” featuring hand-breaded cod and chicken. Cost of the lunch buffet is $9.95 for adults or $4.75 for children 5-11 years old. All buffets include salad bar, desserts, rolls and a non-alcoholic beverage.
