Plan for traffic shifts on State Route 86 (Ajo Way) between Valencia and Kinney roads Kinney Road south of SR 86 is closed until August

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises Tucson-area drivers to plan for the following traffic shifts:
ADOT is scheduled to shift traffic to the south at Valencia Road from SR 86 to approximately one half mile east of the intersection, to allow the construction of the additional lanes on westbound Valencia Road, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 20. Eastbound traffic will be shifted over to a temporary travel lane. Westbound traffic will be shifted over the current eastbound lane. Pavement markings will be installed for the temporary configuration.
From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 20, and Friday, July 21, ADOT is planning to shift traffic to the east at Kinney Road from SR 86 to approximately one quarter mile north of the intersection, to allow the construction of improvements on southbound Kinney Road. Northbound traffic will be shifted over a temporary travel lane. Southbound traffic will be shifted over the current northbound lane. Pavement markings will be installed for the temporary configuration. The duration of the temporary configuration will be determined on a later date.

The work is part of a $40 million project to widen and improve traffic flow along SR 86 between Valencia and Kinney roads. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2018.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information about this project, please call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or email Projects@azdot.gov with questions or comments.
