Patrick Dempsey's wife, Jillian Dempsey, shared a sweet pic and note on Instagram to mark the couple's wedding anniversary of Monday, July 31. "Happy 18th anniversary @patrickdempsey!" the makeup artist captioned a photo that showed the Grey's Anatomy alum kissing her on the cheek as they relaxed on the beach in swimsuits. "Through thick and thin... I love you." She signed the loving message "wifey." Love is clearly better the second time around for the couple, who were headed for divorce after Jillian filed documents in the Los Angeles Superior Court in January 2015. At the time, she requested spousal support and joint custody of their three children, daughter Tallula, 15, and twins Sullivan and Darby, 10. "There's still a lot of love between them," a source told Us Weekly in November 2015 as the couple reconciled and were photographed holding hands in Paris as he filmed Bridget Jones' Baby in London, while she worked on the press tour for Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2 in Europe. The source added that Patrick, who took responsibility for the split, "was going through a bit of a midlife crisis. But he's snapping out of it." "You have to work at everything. And you cannot do everything. Something has to be sacrificed," Patrick, 51, told ES magazine in May last year after confirming they were back together. Jillian -- who met the Sweet Home Alabama star when she gave him a haircut at an upscale L.A. salon in 1994 -- filed to have her divorce filing dismissed in November 2016. (US Weekly)

Summer Phoenix Files for Divorce From Casey Affleck. It's officially over for Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix. The actress and youngest sibling of the famous Phoenix dynasty has filed for divorce from the Manchester By the Sea star, E! News has exclusively learned. Phoenix's move to formally end the couple's marriage comes more than a year after they announced their separation in March 2016. Casey, 41, and Summer, 38, share two sons together: 13-year-old Indiana Affleck and 9-year-old Atticus Affleck. In court documents filed Monday, Phoenix cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. She's requesting joint physical and legal custody of their children, as well as spousal support. Summer and Casey's love story dates back to 1995 when Joaquin Phoenix introduced the pair after working with Ben Affleck on To Die For. By 2003, the now-exes would be engaged and three years later they tied the knot. In 2001, they both performed in the play This Is Our Youth with Matt Damon, another member of the Affleck pair's inner circle. The Oscar winner reflected on happier times in a 2013 interview with The Daily Beast. "She was going out with someone else and I said, 'Man, she's cute,' and [Joaquin] said, 'You should see if she'll go out with you... don't worry about that dude,'" Affleck recalled. "So he was leaving town one day and said, 'My sister's in my apartment and she's all by herself -- would you mind checking in on her?' So I checked in on her, and it stuck." As the years went on, Affleck and Phoenix began making less and less public appearances together, their last being an event in 2014. While husband and wife, the devoted vegans brought awareness to various environmental charities, including PETA. Neither celeb has commented publicly on the divorce filing. E! News has reached out to their reps for comment. (Eonline)

Say What?! Channing Tatum's Daughter Everly Doesn't Like Step Up. If there's ever a Channing Tatum movie marathon on TV, don't bother telling his daughter. When the actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday to promote his new movie Logan Lucky, he confessed that his 4-year-old daughter Everly Tatum isn't a fan of 2006's Step Up -- you know, the film where he fell in love with Jenna Dewan Tatum, whom he married in 2009. "Has your daughter seen any of your movies?" Jimmy Kimmel asked the 37-year-old actor. Given her youth, the late-night host said, "She certainly hasn't seen Magic Mike, I would guess." "Well, she was there for Magic Mike -- a lot of it. And now her dancing is showing that she's seen a lot of that. I'm like, 'I didn't teach her that!'" Channing said of his stripper movie, released in 2015. "But we actually showed her Step Up for the first time. We were like, 'This is really cool! It's got dancing. She's going to love it!' Within 10 seconds, she was like, 'Can I watch a real movie? I don't know, like a good one?' I'm like, 'What do you mean? This is a real movie! This is such a real movie! They made like seven more of these! You will watch it! Sit down!'" But Everly couldn't sit through the film. "Ten more seconds went by and she was like, 'Please, can I watch a real movie?'" Channing said. "We're like, 'Fine! Just put on Moana! I don't care!'" "Maybe do a movie with Moana next time!" Jimmy suggested. "I would happily do that," Channing replied. "That would be a really good career movie, I think." There's just one problem: "My daughter hates when I do voices," Channing revealed. "What I want to do is do a movie, and then not tell her that I'm in it, and then make her go see it. And if she likes it, I am going to rub it in her face. I'm going to be like, 'Yeah! That's Daddy!' Mic drop!" But make no mistake -- there's no one Channing loves more than his little girl. In fact, the actor even wore a tie that the tot designed. "This is a new artist that's in town. Her name is E.T. It's just my daughter," he laughed. "She pretty much paints all my stuff. She did this one at school." Sensing an opportunity to make a buck, Channing joked, "I'm going to start selling these, actually. One day I'll wear the shoes -- we have Converse as well. I have like four or five pairs." "This is the best thing about having money: Your kids can ruin everything in your house," Jimmy sad, adding that his children never customized his clothing. "And you don't have to freak out!" James Franco Says Acting Helped Him Overcome Certain Addictions. James Franco is going deep. The wild stallion known for bucking conventions has been making some big personal changes recently and the 39-year-old, who is slated to star in an upcoming HBO series called The Deuce, sat down with writer Edmund White to discuss his new adventures and old addictions for Out magazine's September issue. "I have a very addictive personality. When I was a teenager I got over certain addictions, and that's when I started acting, at age 17. I really threw myself into it, and that became everything, to the point where I didn't even socialize," confesses the actor. "And then after, like, 10 years of that, at age 27, I realized, 'Man, I'm so depressed.' On the surface my life seems pretty good -- I have a career and everything -- but I feel isolated and lonely." Interestingly enough, the King Cobra star says he's taken up surfing as a form of therapy recently. "I've started a new chapter of my life. I was very work-addicted, and addicted to other things -- not substances, I got over that a long time ago -- but I've recently changed my life, and this is part of my therapy." In the interview, Franco also gets down and dirty about his HBO show which delves into the shady world of porn and prostitution in the 1970s and '80s. "What our show really tracks is how as streetwalkers the women needed pimps for protection, and were very dependent on them, and how that moved indoors, into the massage parlors, and the pimps started to become obsolete because the women didn't need the same kind of protection because they weren't outside anymore," says the Angie Tribeca star. He continues, "Then post–Deep Throat, you got people moving to New York and then eventually Los Angeles and the Valley to be actors in porn without the intermediate step of prostitution. That was the second generation of people performing in porn -- or, as you charmingly say, 'posing' for porn." In the chat, Franco also makes sure to credit his co-star Maggie Gyllenhall for powering through some uncomfortable sex scenes that he directed. "I had to direct sex scenes in The Deuce and...whooo, it was interesting, I have to say. Maggie Gyllenhaal, in addition to being just an incredible actress, is fearless, and she really led the charge with how she handled the sex scenes and how she handled herself, and really set the template for everyone else," he says. "If I didn't have someone like her I think it would have been really, really hard to engage in those scenes, but she just made it so easy. She's fearless." The full interview is in Out magazine's September issue -- out on newsstands. (Eonline)

Dylan Sprouse Returns to Acting After Taking a 6-Year Break. Dylan Sprouse has come a long way since The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. With his twin brother Cole Sprouse starring as "Jughead" Jones on The CW's Riverdale, Dylan's fans had hoped he would return to acting -- and after six years out of the spotlight, their wish came true. In the past few days, director Eva Doležalová has shared photos of the 24-year-old actor on the set of her new movie, Carte Blanche. Dylan plays a character named Gideon Blake. Additional cast members include Jordan Barrett, Jessica Heller, Solenn Heussaff, Jack Kilmer, Jeremie Laheurte, Katty Ukhanova, Jessika Van, Suki Waterhouse and Johnny Whitworth. The director has been sharing behind-the-scenes looks at Carte Blanche on Instagram and Snapchat. Dylan announced in January that he was ready to get back in front of the camera. "I'm interested in roles that are human, that have some sort of empathic quality. A role I would not do: cool jock. That's not something I'd be interested in doing," the actor told The New York Daily News. "Scripts that make characters a two-sentence description, I'm not interested in." After their Disney Channel series ended several years ago, the Sprouse twins enrolled as students at New York University; Dylan majored in video game design and graduated in 2015. He now voices Tyril Tallguy in Force Grey: Lost City of Omu, a Dungeons & Dragons quest played live on Twitch. "This is honestly a check off the bucket list for me," the actor tweeted Saturday. "I've always dreamed of having a video game character of one of my characters. Thanks!" Dylan also owns the All-Wise Meadery, located inside The William Vale hotel in Williamsburg. Why did the Sprouse twins take a hiatus from Hollywood? "I needed to take a break and step outside myself. I needed a dose of reality and I needed to see myself in a more objective point of view," Cole recalled to Entertainment Weekly last year. "And now I think I can enjoy [acting], which is a really fundamental part about being an actor." After spending so many years appearing on Disney Channel, Cole said it was necessary to pursue other interests. "There was a feeling of machination," he said. "I felt like an automaton." (Eonline)

Drake & Josh will always be family, according to Drake Bell. Bell, who said in June that "ties are officially cut" when his former Nickelodeon co-star Josh Peck didn't invite him to his wedding, now says the snub has not damaged their friendship. "I kinda shot from the hip. I was like, 'This is wrong! Why am I finding out about this on social media?'" he told E! News in an interview published on Monday, "I just felt like a bummed-out brother, just kind of hurt. But it does nothing to our relationship." He continued, "He's been one of my dearest friends for the past 18 years. He's one of the people that I know for a fact, no matter what happens in life, I can call Josh at any time of the day and he'll be right there for me. If he's not in some other country or something, then he'll be there. It was just me being an upset brother, that's all." Last month, Peck and his longtime girlfriend Paige O'Brien tied the knot. At the time, Bell, 30, took to Twitter to air his frustrations about not being in attendance. "When you're not invited to the wedding the message is clear... True colors have come out today. Message is loud and clear," he wrote in a tweet that's since been deleted, "Ties are officially cut. I'll miss you brotha." Bell told E! that he talks to Peck all the time and has been in contact with him since the incident. (Page Six)

Harry Styles linked to another Victoria's Secret model. Er, Is he turning into the new Leo? Young Leo. Name not pronounced 'see-air-a' like the Goodies singer. Harry Styles and Leonardo DiCaprio have a handful of things in common. Despite their twenty year age difference, the pair both possess good looks, a natural acting flair (Harry impressed critics with his debut performance in Dunkirk) and now, a skill for romancing Victoria's Secret models. He's now been linked to his fifth... Harry has been linked to 27-year-old Camille Rowe after the pair were spotted attending a gig together in New York. Camille, who made her Victoria's Secret debut in 2016, is the fifth VS babe he's been linked to after Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner, Nadine Leopold and Sara Sampaio. A source told The Sun: "Harry and Camille are in the early stages of dating. He's very protective of his relationship, so isn't going to want to make a big show of things... he seems besotted." Harry fans might be confused as just a couple of weeks ago, Harry hadn't even met Camille. Things are moving fast then, eh? During an appearance on good friend Nick Grimshaw's BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show, Harry was tied up to a heart monitor and shown a series of pictures to see what makes him tick. When he was shown a picture of Camille Rowe, Harry's heart rate stayed steady. "I don't know her. I'm sure she's a wonderful person." Well we bet that was a conversation opener for the pair! We're not jealous at all. (British Glamour)

Justin Bieber's blood father is back on the scene ... just days after some huge events in his son's life, and word he had been leaning on Pastor Carl Lentz for fatherly guidance. Bieber's pops, Jeremy, flew to L.A. from Ontario, Canada over the weekend with Justin's younger brother, Jaxon, in tow. Jeremy was seen driving around town in a convertible ... tailing Justin who was in his own vehicle. Sources connected to Bieber say Jeremy's visit is absolutely a direct response to Justin's tumultuous week -- from pulling the plug on the Purpose tour, to accidentally hitting a pap with his truck. And there's this -- as we first reported, Lentz has stepped up over the last several months as a father figure ... spending time with Justin on the road, and back home in Los Angeles. He's the one Justin turned to when he wanted to discuss ending the tour. Our sources say Justin's had little, if any, relationship with Jeremy all year. It appears the last time they were together was around Christmastime. We're told Jeremy's here now because he just wanted to reconnect and hang with his kid. So far, so good. Justin's been pretty chill during the visit. (TMZ)

Macklemore is lucky to be alive after his Mercedes was hit head-on by an alleged drunk driver in a pickup truck ... TMZ has learned. The accident happened Friday night just before 11 PM in Langley, Washington ... a remote island town 90 minutes north of Seattle. The pickup driver was taken to a hospital for treatment, and Washington State Police tell us he will be charged with DUI. We reached out to Macklemore's camp, but so far no word back. (TMZ)

MTV Cancels Siesta Key Premiere Party After Alex Kompothecras Receives Death Threats. MTV didn't want to risk swimming with the sharks. The network canceled its Siesta Key premiere party at Cinebistro in Sarasota, Fla., to promote the TV series after a video showing a hammerhead shark being dragged to its death went viral. The reality show stars Alex Kompothecras, who is friends with at least one of the men shown abusing the animal. Three women organized a protest, and at least 6,000 Facebook users followed their cause. After Alex received death threats, the party was called off. His father, Dr. Gary Kompothecras confirmed the news to The Tampa Bay Times. But the chiropractor, who funded the pilot episode, said, "I wouldn't say that's the only reason. There are other reasons." Gary did not elaborate on what the "other reasons" were. Alex previously acknowledged the abuse in a Facebook post. "I had absolutely nothing to do with the shark video," he wrote. "Yes he's a friend of mine, but no I don't agree with what he did. Check your facts before you go posting on my page. Thanks." He later deleted the message. Last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the individuals in the video; a spokesman said the agency would not reveal their names during the investigation. To date, The Tampa Bay Times reports, no charges have been filed. Ashley Midey, one of the women who organized the Facebook page, was happy with the "great outcome" of the protest. "Other than letting the world see and hoping law enforcement would really get involved, having things cancelled is a huge deal," she wrote in an update posted over the weekend. The following day, the group's administrators said they were not responsible for the multiple death threats made against Alex. "We want to make it very clear that we do not support or condone violence in any way. While we understand the frustrations of the community, violence is not the answer, and honestly it just brings you down to their level. We are not affiliated with any protests nor will we be organizing one," they told their followers. "Our focus is to continue to provide an internet presence without the threat of violence." Siesta Key premiered Monday at 10 p.m. on MTV. (Eonline)

'Mighty Ducks' star sentenced to 150 days in jail. Shaun Weiss, best known for playing Goldberg in "Mighty Ducks," has been sentenced to 150 days in L.A. County Jail. Weiss, 38, reportedly stole $151 worth of merchandise from Fry's Electronics earlier this month. According to TMZ, this is the second time he's been busted for petty theft. Weiss' manager confirmed to Page Six on Monday that the actor began his sentence last Friday. "Hopefully when he gets out he will go to rehab so he can stay sober," the rep told us, adding that Weiss hopes to write while he's serving his time. Weiss appeared in "Heavyweights," "Freaks and Geeks," "The King of Queens" and "The Tony Danza Show." (PageSix)

Kim Kardashian's use and promotion of an illuminated smartphone case is totally ripping off the guy who invented it, and he says he has receipts to prove it ... according to a $100 million lawsuit. Kim's company ... Kimsaprincess, Inc. got slapped with the suit Monday -- a guy named Hooshmand Harooni says he got a patent back in 2013 for an "integrated lighting accessory and case for a mobile phone device." If that sounds familiar, that's because it's a perfect description of the LuMee. No doubt you've seen Kim flaunt the LuMee on her social media. She says it helps her take perfectly lit selfies -- obviously, a major asset in her world. She even used it for her famous selfies with Hillary Clinton. Problem is ... Harooni licensed his invention to a company called Snaplight, which is now getting buried in sales. Snaplight and Harooni say LuMee jacked their patented technology, and made it an unfair fight by teaming up with a supreme trendsetter like Kim. In the docs, Snaplight says Kim is getting a cut of LuMee's sizable profits -- and now it wants a chunk of that cheddar too. The company says $100 million will cover its lost profits. UPDATE: A rep for the Kardashians tells TMZ, "The patent lawsuit filed by Snap Light has no merit and is just another attempted shakedown. Kim has done absolutely nothing wrong." (TMZ)

THE OTHER STUFF . . .

Cheers, Your Majesty! Queen Elizabeth II Has Four Drinks a Day. This royal is raising a glass. Queen Elizabeth II is a woman of routine. The British monarch is known to indulge in a piece of chocolate biscuit cake during tea time, request her tuna sandwiches without the crusts and enjoy a simple cereal breakfast straight from a Tupperware container. According to a re-emerged report from The Independent, the queen also imbibes in four drinks a day. Per the report, she sips on a gin and Dubonnet with a slice of lemon and a lot of ice before lunch. During lunch, Queen Elizabeth II opts for wine and then enjoys a dry martini and a glass of champagne in the evening. The report credited the queen's late cousin, Margaret Rhodes, with the insight, noting that her alcohol intake "never varies." The reported routine raises some eyebrows considering, per U.K. guidelines, weekly alcohol consumption should be kept to 14 units, or one unit a day. One typical glass of wine amounts to 2.3 units, which would mean the queen exceeds that limit with her daily lunch drink alone. While that's the queen's business, she does have her longtime husband Prince Philip to enjoy a drink with. However, while the 91-year-old royal enjoys cocktails, the Duke of Edinburgh sticks to beer. According to The Telegraph, Philip's drink of choice is a glass of Boddingtons Bitter. Bottoms up! (Eonline)

Madonna's $19K corset sold at auction may be 'fake'. The anonymous collector who bid $19,294 for a white lace corset Madonna wore for her 1984 album-cover shoot for "Like a Virgin" might want to take a second look. According to Maripol, the French-born artist and designer who was then art director for hip Italian boutique Fiorucci: "It's fake. I designed the corset she wore on the cover of 'Like a Virgin.' Just compare photos of the corsets side to side and you can see they are different." A spokeswoman for auction company GottaHaveRockAndRoll.com refuted Maripol's claims and said two corsets were purchased at Macy's for Madonna to use on the cover shoot. The carefully worded catalog never claimed that the corset on the block was the one that actually appears on the album cover. "The one that was sold was used in the original photo shoot and used by Madonna onstage," the rep added. "It's a lie," Maripol fumed. "There was only one corset, and I sewed it myself. I'm upset someone paid so much for a fake." The auction, which ended Saturday with total sales of nearly $750,000, was deemed a success, although 22 other Madonna items -- including a breakup letter from Tupac Shakur, a pair of worn satin panties and a hairbrush with Madonna's hair entangled in it -- were removed under court order. "Madonna doesn't want someone to have her DNA," Maripol said. Darlene Lutz, who was a consultant/aide to the pop star, will be back in Manhattan Supreme Court in September to argue that she is the rightful owner of the memorabilia. The staff at GottaHaveRockAndRoll.com are looking forward to selling the disputed items at a future auction. (PageSix)

Jessica Biel would be nothing without her family. The actress, 35, spoke to PEOPLE Monday night at the New York City premiere of her USA Network series The Sinner and revealed she didn't know where she'd be if she didn't have husband Justin Timberlake and their 2-year-old son Silas. Biel told PEOPLE working on her new series was "really hard" to let go of in terms of its difficult subject matter (Biel plays a young mother overcome with a fit of rage that leads her to commit a startling and public act of violence with no explanation as to why she did it). "I do not want to bring that home. It is so intense," she said. "Thank goodness for [my family] because otherwise I'd be a depressive mess, like a blob on the floor eating cake balls consistently." The mother of one said she enjoys getting to be goofy at home, adding, "I come back and I have fun and I smile and I get to be silly because at work, I don't get to do that." The star recently opened up about her life and marriage to Marie Claire, revealing she and the "Suit & Tie" singer, 36, share "similar values" as one of the secrets to their successful union. "We believe in loyalty, honest," she said. "We like to have fun. We like a lot of the same things." She added, "Also, in the business, we're all very career-oriented, and you have to be a little selfish. I understand that about my peers -- about being focused and driven -- and if you can find that and someone who shares the same values as you, it's like: Score!" The Sinner premieres Aug. 2 at 10 p.m. on USA. (People)

Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet May Be Instagram's Cutest Under-the-Radar Couple. Happy birthday, Khal Drago! Birthday boy Jason Momoa may be known for playing the fierce Dothraki King and as the trident-wielding Aquaman in the upcoming DC films, but he's definitely shown a softer side on his Instagram, namely with his deep love for his wife since 2007, Lisa Bonet. The two, who met in 2005, rarely make red carpet appearances together and both have mostly managed to dodge the press over the years when asked about their relationship, but there's one place the two aren't hiding their love and that's on Instagram, where they can control what goes on. The Hawaii-born actor may be red carpet shy when it comes to the mother of his two children, Lola Iolani Momoa and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa, but he's all about professing his love for the woman he refers to as the "moon of his life" and his "partner in crime" on social media. Gwen Stefani made a "Sweet Escape" over the weekend to Newport Beach, California where she was spotted relaxing on the beach wearing exactly what you would think Gwen Stefani wears seaside -- a colorful bikini top with matching robe, cutoff denim shorts and layers and layers of jewelry (including oversize hoop earrings). The 47-year-old mom of three (with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale) showed off the fact that she's Benjamin Button-ing through life with her teeny top and even tinier pair of denim short shorts (by One X Oneteaspoon). She mixed her boho-style multicolor triangle top and matching cover-up with more laid-back, country-girl denim shorts (a new style phase she's been into thanks to boyfriend Blake Shelton) and a blue plaid shirt tied at the waist. She accessorized with the most beach jewelry we've seen on one person at a time, mixing woven chokers with long lariats, sparkly gold layered necklaces, and adding on multiple rings, stacks of bracelets and oversize hoop earrings. Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani's Cutest Couple Moments! Happy Birthday Blake Shelton! The Country Star Turns 41 On Sunday, June 18th Not only did the singer mix boho, country chic and glam, she even incorporated sporty in her look by topping it all off with a baseball hat. There's never been this much commotion over a Gwen Stefani bikini look since her 1998 MTV VMAs baby blue fuzzy top that took the red carpet by storm. But "Underneath It All" she's "Just a Girl" sticking to her mix-and-match style ways and that's why we love her. (People)

Christina El Moussa is never too busy for a good workout. The mother of two tells PEOPLE that while she may have an incredibly packed schedule full of traveling and filming episodes of HGTV's Flip or Flop, she still makes time for a healthy start to the day. "Running has always been my go-to workout," she says. "Usually I only have 30 minutes for a workout, so I make sure to make the most out of it. A quick 3-mile run around my neighborhood is what I find maximizes my quick workouts and gives me energy to get through my day." The reality star, 34, says her children also keep in her shape as they "always keep me moving, so just keeping up with them is a workout in itself!" When she does have time to visit the gym, El Moussa says she loves going to Orangetheory Fitness and practicing yoga. As for what she eats, she reveals she stays away from anything that is fried. "I stay away from fast food and fried foods and try and eat organic meals prepared at home," she says. "I don't drink anything during the day besides coffee in the morning and then lots of water." Mariah Carey is passing her microphone, and tiara, down to her daughter, Monroe ... who made her singing debut at the legendary Hollywood Bowl. Monroe took center stage at the venue Monday night during Mom and Lionel Richie's concert. When Mariah launched into "Always Be My Baby" ... the diva-in-training got on the mic. Sorta. It took some encouragement from Mariah, but she busted out a few notes. Monroe's twin bro, Moroccan, was there too, but he's saving his pipes for a solo performance. They grow up so fast. And just so you can feel old too -- the song is 22 freakin' years old! (TMZ)

Pitbull Thinks Women Are the "Most Powerful Thing on Earth." Pitbull is a total ladies man but it's because of his admiration for women. We just caught up with the 36-year-old star as he chatted with us about his Las Vegas show, "Time of Our Lives" at the AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. When we asked him how he's able always to be surrounded by such beautiful women, Pitbull had a great explaination, "Well, let me tell you, a woman made me a man. I was raised by women. Therefore I understand women, I love to be around women, and I understand the power of women," he says before continuing. "I think women are the most powerful thing on earth. They know how to deal with things that in no way, shape or form could men deal with. I mean, let's just start with giving birth, let's just say." And out of all the beautiful and talented ladies that he's surrounded himself on stage with, Mr. 305 wasn't shy to talk about one of his favorites. "Someone that I love to be around, and she's so fun and funny, great personality, drop-dead gorgeous, and she's a hard worker, it's Sofia Vergara. I'm very proud of her." How could anyone forget that famous "El Taxi" performance? We never will! Pitbull has collaborated with a ton of artists, but Lopez is someone whom he continues to work with and make music magic. And although it's been a while since the two took the stage together, Pitbull says their hectic schedules are to blame. "Not only is Jennifer someone that I admire and look up to, but she's also helped me tremendously in my career. The reason you guys don't see us on stage like that is that she's incredibly busy. Thank God she's on one side running and gunning, and I'm on the other side, running and gunning. You know all I do is that I watch, I learn, I apply, and I keep it moving. But hopefully soon we'll be on stage together, and every time we get on stage, somehow, some kind of magic happens." Yes, you sure do! But wait, has he already met Alex Rodriguez and been around "J-Rod"? "No, I haven't had a chance to hang out with A-Rod, but he is a Miami boy and what he's done as far as what he's done in baseball was amazing. And I hear in business he's knocking it out of the park also. So happy birthday to both of them!" The musician even joked that the two must have turned 21 because neither of them looks like they're ever going to age. August 5 is Pitbull's last show in Las Vegas, but he gave us an inside look as to how he prepares to take the same with so much enthusiasm and energy. "I'll tell you what I love in my green room, its real simple: Voli 305 (Vodka), water and limes. That's my smoothie. Because the limes give you vitamin c, the water keeps you hydrated and the vodka just puts you in the, you know the Voli 305 puts you in the right state of mind." James Corden is stepping away from the driver's seat for Carpool Karaoke: The Series, and it's leading to some interesting celebrity pairings. The Late Late Show With James Corden spin-off debuts on Apple Music on Tuesday, August 8, and while the British host appears in some of the episodes, others feature fun match-ups including John Cena and Shaquille O'Neal; Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba; Miley Cyrus, her sister, Noah Cyrus, and their family; Ariana Grande and Seth MacFarlane; and Chelsea Handler and Blake Shelton. The new one-minute trailer features Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and shows celebs in the car and on the streets of L.A., where Will Smith crashes a wedding, Game of Thrones BBFs Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams ride a mechanical dragon and John Legend takes over a laundromat with a gospel choir. The previous trailer for the show released in February showed O'Neal and Cena working in a bakery, Billy Eichner and Metallica invading a supermarket, and Smith and Corden taking to the skies over Hollywood in a helicopter. Corden first did a Carpool Karaoke segment back in the U.K. with George Michael for Red Nose Day in 2011 and brought it Stateside when he began hosting the Late Late Show in 2015. Since then, his guests have included Adele, Britney Spears, Madonna, Michelle Obama and Mariah Carey. As Us Weekly previously reported, Linkin Park fans will get to see a posthumous appearance by singer Chester Bennington in an upcoming episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series. The singer, who committed suicide at his California home on July 20, filmed a segment with his band mates just days before his death. (US Weekly)

Queens Of The Stone Age Cancel Outside Lands Citing Injury. Queens Of The Stone Age have canceled their appearance at San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival, which they were scheduled to play on Aug. 12. The cancelation is apparently "due to injury" (no other details beyond that) and the band said in a statement that they "look forward to returning to the Bay Area at a later date." The Outside Lands date was their last scheduled festival appearance before they embark on their own tour in support of their new album, Villains. That tour is scheduled to kick off in Port Chester, NY on 9/6, and as far as we know is going ahead as scheduled. (Billboard)

Klik + Frik's 'Tunel' Video: Exclusive Premiere. Klik + Frik, "Tunel:" Video Premiere Immediately recognized by their silly colored party wigs and day-glo sunglasses, the festival favorites Frikstailers are best known for their bold synthesis of cumbia, dancehall, house, hip-hop and a rambling range of other rhythms "beyond genres or geographical limits." Having made their name on the international circuit, the Argentine adventurers are on a new journey. They've just released an album under a different name, Klik + Frik. Frikstailers (Rafa Caivano and Lisandro Sona) became Klik + Frik for the first time at the Mutek electronic music festival in Mexico City, where they now reside. "We tipped the scales toward the digital and the mystical," says Caivano, who describes Klik + Frik's music as "more introspective" than Frikstailers' tropical techno mix. "Although on some tracks the you can hear Frikstailers at the roots, Klik + Frik lets us focus on details and depths that went unnoticed before." (Billboard)

Arcade Fire's 'Everything Now' Rules Midweek U.K. Albums Chart. Arcade Fire is roaring to another U.K. No. 1 with Everything Now (Columbia). The Canadian alternative rules the midweek chart with their latest album, which has the early edge over Ed Sheeran's Divide (Asylum) for the crown. If Everything Now holds its position at the top when the chart proper is published Friday, Arcade Fire will collect a third No. 1 after 2010's The Suburbs and 2013's Reflektor. Meanwhile, veteran rocker Alice Cooper bows at No. 3 on the Official Chart Update with Paranormal (Ear Music), as Rag'n'Bone Man's hit debut Human (Best Laid Plans/Columbia) rises to No. 4 and Lana Del Rey's Lust For Life (Polydor) dips to No. 5 and looks likely to lose its crown after just one week. The untimely death of Chester Bennington continues to resonate with fans as two Linkin Park albums sit inside the midweek top ten: Hybrid Theory (Warner Bros./Warner Music) at No. 7 and One More Light at No. 9. Also, the Pet Shop Boys are on track for a trio of new entries, according to the Official Charts Company. The electro-pop veterans are mounting a reissue campaign led by their albums Nightlife, Release and Fundamental, which start at No. 10, No. 11 and No. 12, respectively. On the midweek singles survey, Calvin Harris' "Feels" (Columbia) is challenging "Despacito" (Interscope/Universal) for top spot. The Scottish DJ and producer's collab-crammed single is at No. 2 behind Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber's "Despacito" remix, which has ruled the U.K. chart for 10 weeks. "Despacito" last week joined a list of only five songs in U.K. chart history to have had three separate stints at No. 1 (Billboard)

R. Kelly's "After Party" tour is going to be a little shorter -- a bunch of dates have been canceled. Four of Kelly's 10 upcoming tour dates were canceled Monday. Just last week he'd vowed he would continue touring, despite being accused of running a sex cult with young women. Two shows in Louisiana got axed, one in Dallas and another in Los Angeles. Our sources say the 4 stops were nixed due to poor ticket sales, which shouldn't come as a surprise. As we reported ... his Friday night gig in Virginia was barely half full ... according to witnesses. Still, sources close to Kelly tell TMZ the tour will absolutely go on, explaining the L.A. show was only canceled because of a scheduling conflict with another nearby stop. The Kelly sources had no comment on the other 3 terminated shows. As of Monday, there are still a few dates left of the "After Party" tour that have tickets for sale. (TMZ)

R. Kelly hires crisis team amid sex cult accusations. R. Kelly's message to his fans about a report that he is allegedly holding women in a "sex cult" is: "It's a bunch of crap" -- but he has hired a crisis team to fight the claims, which, sources tell Page Six, have some truth to them. Kelly was responding to multiple families' claims that he is housing their daughters in Chicago and Atlanta, where he brainwashes them and "records" them in sexual encounters. His ticket sales have suffered since the families came out to BuzzFeed with the allegations. Concert dates in Dallas, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., were canceled due to low ticket sales -- as fallout from the controversy. A source told Page Six, "The promoter sent an e-mail to R. Kelly's team and told them they were set to lose $400,000 if sales didn't pick up fast. They canceled." His booking agency, Monterey International, plans to cut ties with him this week, according to sources. A spokesman from the agency said, "No comment," when we reached out on Monday. "Despite all of the crap y'all hearing, I will be coming to the East Coast to do my show, and believe me, y'all, it's a bunch of crap," Kelly said in a video. We're told the R&B crooner and his publicist Trevian Kutti, who is also Regina King's stylist, are plotting to undermine the families' accusations that he's holding their girls hostage. One of the alleged captives, Jocelyn Savage, told TMZ that she's happy living with Kelly, and slammed her father's allegations. After the video emerged, a source said, "They're working on a plan to portray Jocelyn's father as having . . . encouraged the relationship with R. Kelly. They want to make it look like Kelly rescued her from her father." Meanwhile, Kelly retained Bill Cosby's former lawyer Monique Pressley to manage the crisis, and is paying her $50,000 for 30 days. "She signed on to do damage control," the source said. Kutti told us in a statement, "Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name." (PageSix)

Kathryn Bigelow is never one to shy away from a difficult story. In her new drama, Detroit, the Oscar-winning director depicts one of the most horrifying events of the five-day long riots that seized the city in 1967: the Algiers Motel incident, in which three young black men were killed by white police officers -- who were later exonerated. "I thought, 'Am I the perfect person to tell this story? No,'" Bigelow told Variety in its latest cover story. "However, I'm able to tell this story, and it's been 50 years since it's been told." Bigelow learned of screenwriter Mark Boal's script for Detroit after a grand jury declined to prosecute Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Michael Brown in 2015 -- and the decision convinced her that this story needed to be told. "With the events unfolding today, the story needed to see the light of day," said Bigelow. "My hope is that a dialogue comes out of this film that can begin to humanize a situation that often feels very abstract." Frequent collaborators, Bigelow and Boal are no strangers to depicting controversial stories. They previously worked together on the Iraq drama The Hurt Locker, which won six Oscars in 2010, and 2012's Zero Dark Thirty. "I always feel that the purpose of art is to agitate for change, but you can't change anything if you're not aware of it," she said. "My own personal concerns are at the service of the importance to tell the story." She added: "I'm compelled to make emotionally, socially, and politically challenging pieces. That's what intrigues me." Despite her own success and the rising fame of female filmmakers like Patty Jenkins, Bigelow still sees inequity in the business. "It's a travesty," she said. "I feel like it's trending in the right direction, but it's painfully slow, and where's that inequity coming from? That's a big and complicated sociological question." Though Bigelow is "thrilled" Jenkins achieved blockbuster success with Wonder Woman, she sheepishly admitted she hasn't been able to see the comic book movie yet: "I've been so busy, but I want to." Detroit is in theaters now. (People)

State Bank Acquires Russia's Largest Studio Complex. VTB plans to develop Glavkino, which is located outside of Moscow and is nicknamed "Russian Hollywood." Russian state-run bank VTB has taken over the country's largest film studio complex Glavkino, nicknamed "the Russian Hollywood." The information about the deal originally appeared on the government's web site and was later confirmed by VTB. "VTB has increased its stake in Glavkino and plans to participate in further development of the studio complex," a spokeswoman for VTB told The Hollywood Reporter, providing no further details. According to the government's web site, VTB now fully controls the studio complex through its subsidiary, VTB Project. As of December, Glavkino was still owned by its founders-director, producer and chairman of the board of Lenfilm studio Fyodor Bondarchuk and producer Ilya Bachurin-and several private individuals and companies, according to the shareholders' registry, with no stake owned by VTB. However, the lender provided funding for the studio's complex at the time of its construction, with the buildings and land serving as collateral. Glavkino's spokeswoman declined to provide any specifics regarding the plans for the studio complex. Glavkino declined to comment. With a total area of studio facilities at 21,000 square meters, Glavkino, located outside Moscow, is the country's largest film studio complex. Among its customers are Timur Bekmambetov's Bazelevs and Nikita Mikhalkov's Trite. At the time of its launch five years ago, the studio complex revealed plans to attract Hollywood crews and reportedly negotiated with Fox and Universal about collaboration. However, U.S. sanctions slapped on Russia over Ukraine and Crimea in 2014 led to souring of the relations between the two countries, and there has been no word about collaborations with Hollywood lately. Sony Pictures Posts $86 Million Quarterly Loss. Sony Corp. reports earnings of $722 million, up 282 percent from the same period last year and a record quarterly result, as the company's turnaround continues to bear fruit. Sony Pictures posted a loss of $86 million for the fiscal first quarter, which ran April to June, compared to a $103 million loss in the same period last year. Revenue was up 12.3 percent, or 9 percent on a dollar basis, helped by higher television production sales, particularly for The Last Tycoon and Better Call Saul, as well as higher advertising revenue in India. But these were offset by lower theatrical revenue and advertising costs for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The success of Spider-Man: Homecoming did not boost the quarterly figures as it was released in July, just after the company's fiscal first quarter finished. Sony forecasts full-year revenue for the film division of ?1,020 billion ($9.25 billion at current exchange rates) and operating profit of ?39 billion ($354 million). "Tony Vinciquerra took over as head of Sony Pictures on June 1, and he has experience managing various entertainment businesses and has accomplished much in his career. He is currently assessing all aspects of the business," Sony CFO Kenichiro Yoshida said at the earnings press conference at Sony's Tokyo headquarters. Sales at Sony Music rose 18.8 percent and profit from the division jumped 58 percent to $226 million as a stronger streaming market and albums from Harry Styles and The Chainsmokers boosted the performance. Sales of the PlayStation 4 (PS4) fell from 3.5 million units last year to 3.3 million units in the latest quarter, with the console now in its fourth year. Profit at the division more than halved to $160 million, despite the success of the virtual reality PlayStation VR headset, pushed down by a price cut for the PS4 and a fall in revenue from profitable in-house games. Nevertheless, Sony raised its full-year profit prediction for the division by $90 million. With consumer electronics, sensors and mobile phones also delivering profits, Sony Corp. posted group-wide earnings of $722 million (?80.9 billion), up 282 percent over the same period last year and a record quarterly result. "Sony was profitable 20 years ago and again 10 years ago, only to fall back into the red," said Yoshida. "It's important for management to keep a sense of urgency and tension to maintain profitability." (Hollywood Reporter)

"Our working relationship started when she was among an elite group of actors who made multiple appearances as defense attorneys on Law & Order in the early '90s. Edie was at the top of that list. Why Young Sheldon Is "Very Moving" for The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons. You won't find anybody more proud of Young Sheldon than Jim Parsons. Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, serves as executive producer and narrator on Young Sheldon, was clearly moved by the idea of a prequel series about his character. "It was very moving to me to see this machine take off that's related to all that," he said at the 2017 TCA Summer Press Tour. "I never felt, in the 10 years that we worked on the Big show that we... I can't talk! You don't think you're putting together these kinds of things that will add up to something like [the prequel]." "It just felt like the greatest idea in the world," executive producer Chuck Lorre said. A lot of Sheldon Cooper's timeline has been discussed on The Big Bang Theory, like the death of his father, are still canon, but the show will depict how "people change and they grow and develop over the course of many years." Plus, every season isn't necessarily a year. "Seasons can take place over a couple of months. We have a lot of freedom with the backstory," Lorre said about Sheldon's father, who is played by Lance Barber on the series. "We're going to show there was a great deal more to the man than we discussed over the years on Big Bang." A lot of talk centered on how similar Parsons was to his character at a young age -- " I didn't befuddle my parents, that came much later with my sexuality," Parsons said." -- and the similarities between Parsons and Iain Armitage, the Big Little Lies star who has the title role on the prequel. "I was able to interact with Iain a lot and discuss things that were peculiar to the character," Parsons said about working with Armitage. "Though that I have to tell you it was a very moving experience to me to see something I've put in a decade of my life toward." The show also stars Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, the role her mother, Laurie Metcalf, originated on The Big Bang Theory, Annie Potts, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan. Perry said she rewatched clips of her mother's work to prepare. "Genetics do a lot for me. This is my voice," she told the press. "Certain mannerism just come with the territory." Lorre praised Perry's audition and noted he used to see a five-year-old Perry run around the set of Roseanne when he worked on the show. "When she came into read for the part of Mary, again we were flabbergasted... beyond good luck to have an actress at this caliber," he said. As for any Big Bang and Young Sheldon crossover, it's been discussed. "We discussed the possibility that the stories we tell on Young Sheldon could echo on Big Bang Theory," Lorre said. "We're definitely discussing the ripple effect that the shows could have going forward in time." Young Sheldon premieres Monday, Sept. 25 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS. (Eonline)

The Bachelorette Just Completely Destroyed Lee Garrett On the Most Fascinating Men Tell All Ever. Sometimes, the best part of Men Tell All is the screaming. There's just something so satisfying about seeing which guys get the screams from the audience as they're introduced, and which guys get the lulled residual screams. The biggest screams went to Dean (obviously), while Kenny, Josiah, Diggy, Whaboom, Fred, Jonathan, and Will all clearly got screams just for them. Even Whaboom had some of his own screams. Matt, Jamey(??), Jack Stone, and a few other randos got "Yay...who?" screams, but the decline was clear when Lee was introduced. Lee is not a man with screamy fans, nor is he a man who probably deserves them. And of course, there were the screams inside our own heads. We had forgotten how much we did not want to remember the existence of Lee's drawling southern assholery, or Whaboom and his best frenemy Blake, or DeMario and his really incredible ability to sit at the very bottom of a hole and still talk himself deeper into it. Then again, even through all the screaming, we have to say that the night's Men Tell All was one of the most interesting hours of this entire season in terms of the discussions surrounding Lee and his behavior both on and off the show. Chris Harrison and the other men really took him to task, and at first he seemed to be doing some things right. He admitted Kenny never dragged him out of a van (obviously), and that the other guys were right in pointing out the things he did wrong. He was thinking a lot about being more considerate, he had been a terrible friend, etc. etc. DeMario AKA Man in the Hole even tried to defend him for a second (before really changing his tune later), saying the Lee he knew before he was carried off in his van of shame was not the Lee he apparently later became. But then Lee was put into the hot seat, and Harrison brought up the offensive tweets that were found on Lee's account back at the beginning of the season. He even read a few out loud, and forced Lee to answer to them directly. They particularly focused on a tweet comparing the NCAAP to the KKK, and it took a lot to get Lee to finally stop blubbering about how that wasn't what he intended, and how it was only "half of a tweet," and admit that it was racist. It was "nice" (if that's even the right word) to see everyone asking the questions we've been asking for weeks, like when Josiah joined Lee on the couch to ask him why he was there to meet the first black Bachelorette when he had those racist opinions. His answer was...not satisfactory. "I don't like racism at all," Lee stammered. "It bothers me morally, it bothers me inside, and I don't like it. And when I woke up and I saw that those came out, it hurt me a lot." Not an answer, dude. (Eonline)

Meghan King Edmonds and Kelly Dodd were friends long before either appeared on The Real Housewives of Orange County, but the way they appear to talk to one another over text message, one might think they were enemies. On Monday's episode, the two reality stars came face to face for the first time since exchanging heated words between seasons. Their text battle had each making outrageous accusations about the other one's marriage. "I heard you had a boyfriend," King Edmonds said first, asking if the rumor -- which she heard about from "someone on Twitter" -- is true. Dodd, 43, responded with a crazy claim all her own: "A friend told me your husband has a mistress." King Edmonds, 32, was offended. "We are pregnant for God's sake, Kelly," she wrote back. "My God." Of course, both ladies denied the rumored infidelity. Dodd and her husband, Michael, have been together for 13 years -- while King Edmonds and her husband, former baseball player Jim Edmonds, wed in October 2014. "I don't have a boyfriend. And, quite frankly, if I did, I would say," Dodd confessed to viewers. King Edmonds also blew off Dodd's accusations, saying in an interview: "I don't really give a s -- because I know it's not true." But she was annoyed Dodd brought it up in the first place. "[Kelly] didn't like that question, so she got mad and [sent] me a text when I'm seven months pregnant, saying 'Your husband is having an affair on you. Just thought you should know,' " King Edmonds recalled. "That's not a text that you send to someone seven months pregnant." Andy Cohen's Pick For The Most Absurd 'Real Housewives' Business Ever The Bravo host plays a 'Housewives'-themed round of Plead the Fifth. The two "drifted apart" because of their disagreement, but with the RHOC cameras up and running they decided to bury the hatchet and Dodd visited King Edmonds's to meet her then-2-month-old daughter, Aspen. It turned out to be a fairly pleasant meetup, with Dodd bringing a baby gift but no mention of the text messages. "I just cut Kelly Dodd out for a few months, and then I let her back in," King Edmonds said. "Because it's all a hell of a lot easier to get along with Kelly than it is to fight with her. The way that Kelly goes after people is not normal. In a lot of ways, I see Kelly as a child having a temper tantrum. And reasoning with a 3-year-old is not easy, and sometimes that's how Kelly is." For what it's worth, Dodd -- who had previously made accusations about Orange County Housewives Shannon Beador and Tamra Judge's marriages -- appeared to agree with King Edmonds. "I have a really really hard time controlling myself," she said. "When someone presses my buttons, I'm going to press the button right back." The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo. (People)

A local premiere party for MTV's reality show Siesta Key was canceled after death threats were allegedly directed at one of the show's stars. The father of Alex Kompothecras, who stars in the show, told The Tampa Bay Times that the premiere party in Sarasota, Florida, where the show is filmed, confirmed the cancellation. Dr. Gary Kompothecras, a chiropractor, would not comment any further on the reasons for the cancellation. "I wouldn't say that's the only reason," he said. "There are other reasons." Siesta Key follows eight friends through their summer in Siesta Key, with Alex at the center. The show was created in part by Dr. Kompothecras. The show and Alex began to receive backlash on social media following viral footage of one of Alex's friends dragging a shark behind a boat. A Facebook page called "Boycott Siesta Key MTV" was created and a protest was planned for the premiere party on Monday night. Barbie Fraley, the event organizer for the premiere, told The Bradenton Herald that the premiere would have included a meet-and-greet of the cast, along with autographs and a Q&A period. "I can't comment further," Fraley said. The Facebook page for Siesta Key Animal Abuse wrote a post about the premiere, writing, "If CineBistro refuses to cancel the event, we will be there at 8:15 p.m. to greet the stars of the show as well as the producers of MTV." "Unfortunately, over the past few days, the connection between the production and the 'Siesta Key' show and the horrific videos and photos of animal abuse have come to light," they added Alex commented in a since-deleted post that the person in the shark video was a friend, but that he did not condone that behavior, according to Rolling Stone. "I had absolutely nothing to do with the shark video," he wrote. "Yes he's a friend of mine, but no I don't agree with what he did. Check your facts before you go posting on my page. Thanks." Florida Governor Rick Scott called the video "heinous and sickening," according to CBS 12. (People)

BBC, Former 'Great British Bake Off' Judge Mary Berry to Look for Britain's Best Cook. "At a time when British cooking has never been more varied, inspiring or of such high quality, this series will test the real-life expertise of truly great home cooks," says the public broadcaster. U.K. public broadcaster BBC said Tuesday that its flagship channel BBC One would launch a cooking competition with former The Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry serving as a judge. The show with the working title Britain's Best Cook will presented by Claudia Winkleman and consist of eight hour-long episodes. "At a time when British cooking has never been more varied, inspiring or of such high quality, this series will test the real-life expertise of truly great home cooks and will celebrate the food people make for their loved ones every single day," the BBC said. "Mary Berry is returning to her first love; with more than 75 cookery books to her name, her authority in the home kitchen is beyond question, and she is the natural choice for the lead judge." The search for a second judge is underway. "I am never more at home than when I have my judging hat on," said Berry. "This series is going to encourage proper home cooking which I have always championed and I cannot wait to start." Charlotte Moore, the director of BBC Content who ordered the show together with David Brindley, head of commissioning, popular factual and factual entertainment, said: "Home cooking has quietly become one of the nation's favorite obsessions and so there is no better place than BBC One to compete for this crown." Over the course of the series, 10 contestants will need to "demonstrate skill under pressure and individual flair, as they're asked to serve the most perfect version of dishes that define modern British home cooking as well as create their special take on well-loved classics," the BBC said. The show is being made by Keo Films, with executive producers Andrew Palmer, Matt Cole and Claire Nosworthy. Berry and the BBC had cooked up other shows together since the public broadcaster lost Bake Off to Channel 4. Mary Berry's Secrets From Britain's Great Houses was designed to show Berry sample "the culinary histories of stately homes and create new recipes inspired by her visits," while Mary Berry Everyday was ordered to let her "celebrate the food and ingredients she turns to most as she proves that you don't need an exotic larder or a chef's repertoire to create delicious dishes every night of the week." Sony Focusing on "Leveraging IP," Taking Over Anime Distributor. With 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' delivering the goods at the box office, Sony Corp. CFO Kenichiro Yoshida pointed to the potential of "hundreds of Marvel characters." Sony Corp. management during its earnings press conference on Tuesday said it was focusing on "leveraging IP across the group" and on the heels of the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, noted there were "hundreds of Marvel characters." The comments came after Sony Pictures Television Networks unveiled a deal to acquire a big majority stake in Funimation Productions, a U.S. distributor of Japanese anime. Sony will buy a 95 percent stake for $143 million in a deal valuing the entire company at approximately $150 million. Funimation CEO Gen Fukunaga will retain a minority stake and remain head of the company he founded, while John Kuelbs will leave his role as chairman. Funimation's catalog includes such titles as Dragon Ball Z, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece, My Hero Academia and Attack on Titan. The company also operates subscription streaming service FunimationNOW, which is available via Sony's PlayStation Store, iTunes Store, Google Play, Amazon Apps, Xbox Store and mobile devices. Funimation also sells merchandise and DVDs online. "We have IP across Funimation, Aniplex, Animax and the PlayStation platform, the challenge is to connect them all organically," said chief financial officer (CFO) Kenichiro Yoshida during Sony's earnings announcement at its Tokyo headquarters. "CEO [Kaz] Hirai is taking stock of all the IP in the group and the PS4 will be at the center." The acquisition of Funimation fits with Sony Pictures Television Networks' Animax network that offers Japanese anime content and currently operates in 23 countries, including Japan. "Around the world, Sony's networks have been major players in the anime space for nearly two decades, and in more recent years we have rapidly increased our networks' over-the-top and digital offerings to consumers," said Andy Kaplan, president, worldwide networks, Sony Pictures Television. "With the acquisition of Funimation, the combined IP of Animax, Kids Station and Funimation allows us to deliver the best anime to fans across all screens and platforms." Added Fukunaga: "With Funimation's long-established leadership position in anime and Sony's direct access to the creative pipeline in Japan, it will be a great partnership to take Funimation to the next level." Following the success of Spider-Man: Homecoming, CFO Yoshida pointed out that Spidey spin-off Venom was set for release next year and that "there are hundreds of Marvel characters; we will be proactively leveraging such IP going forward." It wasn't immediately clear if the company could license more Marvel characters or develop projects out of its own characters Marvel-style. (Hollywood Reporter)
