Update: Restrictions continue on State Route 87 south of Payson Lane closure added in both directions

Drivers headed to Payson and the Mogollon Rim area should continue to budget extra travel time as lane restrictions continue in both directions on SR 87 near Slate Creek while crews complete improvements to drainage, erosion control and the roadway surface.

The following lane restrictions are in place:

A daily 24-hour right lane closure northbound on SR 87 between mileposts 223 and 226 from Monday, Nov. 6 to Monday, Nov. 20.
A single lane closure in each direction between mileposts 229 and 229.5 during daylight hours beginning Monday, Nov. 6 to Friday, Nov. 17 to allow trucks to haul material.

These closures are in place so crews can make repairs to the roadway and drainage systems and stabilize the terrain after sensors detected slight ground movement near Slate Creek, about 25 miles south of Payson. The project also includes moving nearly 27,000 cubic yards of dirt from the northbound side of the highway farther down the slope to help stabilize the terrain.
