Overnight closures of Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) scheduled this weekend in Mesa and Gilbert

Travel lanes and ramps restricted while freeway management technology is installed

East Valley drivers should plan for overnight closures of the Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) this weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues a freeway management system project to improve safety and traffic flow.

ADOT advises motorists to slow down and use caution around construction personnel and equipment while the following restrictions are in place:

Northbound Loop 202 will be closed between Elliot and Guadalupe roads from 10 p.m. Friday, May 11, to 9 a.m. Saturday, May 12. Detour: Consider using northbound Ellsworth Road to westbound Guadalupe Road to access northbound Loop 202.

Westbound Loop 202 will be closed between Power and Higley roads from 10 p.m. Saturday, May 12, to 9 a.m. Sunday, May 13. Also: The westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Power and Hawes roads will be closed and the State Route 24 ramp to westbound Loop 202 will be closed. Detour: Consider using westbound Ray Road or Elliot Road to Higley Road to access westbound Loop 202.

The $4 million project to upgrade the freeway management system equipment on the Loop 202 between Ray and Broadway roads began in summer 2017 and is scheduled for completion in late 2018. Find out more about the technology being installed and how it improves traffic flow and safety on the project web page.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or email Projects@azdot.gov. For real-time highway conditions statewide, visit ADOT's Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov, follow ADOT on Twitter (@ArizonaDOT) or call 511, except when driving.
