What Bode Miller and His Wife Learned From Their Baby Girl's Death. In June, Winter Olympian Bode Miller and his wife, Morgan Miller, lost their 19-month-old daughter, Emmy Miller -- and Nicole Hughes lost her 3-year-old son, Levi Hughes, in a similar drowning accident the same day. The three parents united on CBS This Morning Monday to spread the word for other parents, in the hopes of preventing similar tragedies from occurring. (Bode and Morgan gave their first interview about Emmy's death last month on NBC's Today.) Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death in children under 4, and 350 children under the age of 5 drown in pools each year nationwide. "Just knowledge alone is a really powerful tool," Bode said, adding, "These drownings are happening not during swim time. I think, as a parent, those little tidbits of knowledge are things we can share with each other. And once it becomes something everyone's aware of, we can really prevent these kinds of tragedies. At the end of the day, what happened to us is horrible for us -- and I think a lot of people shared our pain in that -- but we want to try to not make it happen to other people." Like many parents, whenever they would hear about another person's family tragedy, they would think, "It will never happen to me." But, as Nicole learned, "Tragedy does not play fair." Morgan estimated "hundreds of people" have reached out to them since Emmy's death, many of whom would say, "I put my child down for a nap. That was the last time I saw my child alive." Morgan reminded viewers children are naturally "curious," and they can easily find their way to water. For parents -- herself included -- "if you don't have that visual stimulant of water, it's almost like out of sight, out of mind." So, even if the kids aren't swimming, "It can still happen." Recently, Bode began teaching his 3-year-old son, Nash Miller, "self-rescue techniques" in the family pool. "Removing the stigma is part of changing the conversation. We have people who come up to us, who...it's hard to address. They don't know what to say, and they don't want to cause you more pain, and they don't want to dodge around the subject. The fact is, breaking that stigma and making it a conversation you can have with parents who have unfortunately experienced it firsthand is, I think, one of those important steps," the athlete said. Bode said befriending people who have also "gone through it," like Nicole, opens up the conversation. "Laughing and joking doesn't mean it's gone," Bode said. "It just means it's part of our life now." (Eonline)

Jon Gosselin Celebrates "New Beginnings" During Hannah's First Day of School. Kate Gosselin isn't the only proud parent this school year. Just a few days after the TLC reality star documented her kids first day back, Jon Gosselin decided to share a personal highlight from daughter Hannah Gosselin's return to school. In an Instagram posted Monday morning, the DJ shared a photo of his 14-year-old before the school bell rang. "Congrats Hannah on your first day of school, proud of you. I admire your bravery starting fresh!!!" he shared online. "I Love you very much and we have worked really hard to get here. Dedication has really paid off." Jon continued, "I'm so happy you integrated yourself into the community, you made friends all summer and now you will grow and graduate with them. I'm honored to be your father!!! Love you, Dad #newbeginnings." Previously, Jon claimed on social media that Hannah "permanently" live with him and not Kate. In fact, the pair celebrated the Fourth of July together as well as Hannah's 14th birthday. As for the rest of the famous family, Aaden, Joel, Alexis, Leah, Mady and Cara were all spotted in a first day of school photo on Kate's Instagram. "Feels like school never ended," the proud mom wrote on Instagram. "And they're already back! #SeniorYear #EighthGrade #ProudMom." And for those looking for Collin, Kate revealed in 2016 that he had moved out of her home to enroll in an education program that teaches "life skills" to help overcome his "educational and social challenges." While pop culture fans may not be able to see the Gosselin family week after week on TLC, the cable network recently announced an upcoming series titled Kate Plus Date. The show will document the reality star on her dating journey and is expected to premiere this fall. (Eonline)

Kevin Smith Loses 51 Lbs. 6 Months After "Massive" Heart Attack. Kevin Smith took to Instagram on Sunday to celebrate his 51-pound weight loss. The filmmaker revealed he decided to focus on his health after being hospitalized for a heart attack six months prior. "Six months ago from right now, I was in the hospital recovering from a heart attack I'd had the night before," he wrote. "When I went to my doctor a week later, she told me 'The best thing you can do for yourself now is to lose 50 pounds.' Half a year later, I can report that I followed Doctor's orders: I started at 256 and now I weigh 205. This is the lightest I've been since high school!" Smith, who is also a Weight Watchers ambassador, said his goal is to lose another 10 pounds so he can "get down to my birth weight of 195." "But for now, I'm ecstatic to have reached this chunky milestone!" he wrote. The Chasing Amy director thanked magician Penn Jillette for his weight loss book, Presto!: How I Made Over 100 Pounds Disappear and Other Magical Tales, and author Ray Cronise for starting him on "his potato famine." He also gave shout-outs to Weight Watchers and to his daughter Harley Quinn Smith. "And I also wanna thank my kid @harleyquinnsmith -- the little vegan astronaut who explored this meatless/milkless galaxy ahead of me, leading by example," he wrote. "Since I never wanted to see the inside of a hospital ever again, I simply copied the Kid. So this wasn't a diet: these results came from a total lifestyle change of eating solely plant-based foods (which is tough because I hate vegetables)." His daughter congratulated her father on his milestone. "So proud of you my fellow vegan!!!!!" she wrote. At the end of his post, Smith also thanked his followers for all of their support. "But mostly, I wanna thank all of you as well -- for the kind and encouraging words along the way," he wrote. "Never underestimate the power of positive feedback: you folks telling me I looked better or healthier helped me stick with it. An encouraging word can really make a difference in someone's life and your compliments kept me going! And just look where I went!" Smith suffered a "massive heart attack" back in February. He was 47 years old at the time. He had been filming his stand-up special Kevin Smith Live! when it occurred and had two back-to-back shows scheduled. He ultimately decided to cancel his second performance and go to the hospital. "The doctor who saved my life told me I had 100 percent blockage of my LAD artery (aka 'the Widow-Maker')," he tweeted at the time. "If I hadn't canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would've died tonight. But for now, I'm still above ground!" He also opened up about the health scare during a Facebook Live video. "There was this moment where I was like I might die," the he recalled. "I just thought about everything and thought about my parents and how they raised me and my brother and my sister and my friends and my wife and my kid and this weird wonderful career that I've had for so long and stuff and I was like content." Just a few days later, Smith was out of the hospital and thanked his fans for their support. He continued to keep them posted on his health journey, including giving them weight-loss updates and opening up about his new vegan lifestyle. "Winding up in the operating room, I was like, 'I never want to do this s--t again,'" he told E! News. (Eonline)

Mel B to Enter Rehab for PTSD After Reaching a ''Crisis Point.'' Mel B is prioritizing her health. In a statement to The Sun on Sunday, the Spice Girls singer revealed her plan to seek further professional help after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Mel B said she plans to enter a rehab facility in her native U.K. following an "incredibly difficult" past six months. "I've been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life," she reportedly shared. "I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on." Mel B, 43, further said in the statement, "Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol -- it is underneath all that. I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do, but I am dealing with it." In the "next few weeks," Mel B told The Sun, she will enter a "proper therapy program" to address her personal struggles. Those private battles have made headlines over the past year, including the death of her father in March 2017 and contentious divorce battle with Stephen Belafonte. Last April, Mel B obtained a restraining order against the film producer, alleging in court documents that he had been physically and verbally abusive throughout their decade-long marriage. The singer stated that Stephen demanded she partake in "sexual intercourse with him and random women" and accused him of threatening to release footage of the alleged sexual activity if she objected. Belafonte's attorneys called the claims "outrageous," and in November 2017 the exes reached a private settlement. As part of the agreement, Mel B withdrew her domestic violence restraining order against him. In addition to her statement, Mel B tweeted "Knowledge is power" and a link to a website detailing PTSD. She also retweeted a post from her mother, Andrea Brown, mentioning Mel's decision to enter rehab. "I'm so proud of my daughter. She has the courage to face her demons head on and deal with them," Andrea wrote. "I know what hell she has been through and I know what trauma she has suffered and still suffers. Do not judge because so many people have PTSD and try and numb the pain any way they can. I am proud of her honesty and I am proud my daughter speaks out on a subject that affects so many people." E! News has reached out to her rep for comment. (Eonline)

Angelina Jolie Gets New Divorce Lawyer Amid Brad Pitt Custody Battle. Angelina Jolie is moving in a new direction amid her ongoing court battle with Brad Pitt. The 43-year-old Oscar winner has parted ways with divorce attorney Laura Wasser and will now be working with Samantha Bley DeJean. "Angelina decided to change counsel to Samantha Bley DeJean of Bley and Bley, as Samantha's expertise is the protection and best interests of children," Mindy Nyby, spokesperson for Jolie tells E! News in a statement. "Angelina appreciates Laura's cooperation in transitioning the case over the past several weeks." A source familiar with the proceedings also tells E! News, "Samantha's expertise is the protection of children and over the past few weeks, Angelina's come to rely on her counsel and decided to put her in the lead." "Over the past month the case has been fully transitioned to Samantha," the insider continues. "Angelina remains focused on healing her family." Jolie and Pitt have yet to reach a custody agreement for their children, despite reports that surfaced last week. A source close to the proceedings told E! News that reports of a new custody arrangement are false, adding that Jolie and Pitt's original court ordered agreement remains in place. The exes have six children together: Maddox Jolie-Pitt, 17, Pax Jolie-Pitt,14, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, 13, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, 12, Knox Jolie-Pitt, and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, 10. In regards to Pitt's relationship with the kids, another insider recently told E! News, "In terms of the kids' relationship with Brad, Angelina definitely remains committed to helping the kids heal with their father." It's been almost two years since Jolie filed from divorce from Pitt after two years of marriage and over 10 years together. Just weeks ago, Jolie accused Pitt of not paying any "meaningful" child support since divorce proceedings began in 2016. In a two-page brief filed in L.A. Superior Court and obtained by E! News, Jolie's lawyer stated that Pitt "has a duty to pay child support." Later adding, "Given the informal arrangements around the payment of the children's expenses have not been regularly sustained by [Pitt] for over a year and a half," Jolie plans to request a court order "for the establishment of a retroactive child support order." In response, Pitt's legal team then fired back with a court filing of their own. Pitt's attorney Lance Spiegel filed a four-page brief with the L.A. Superior Court. In the court documents, obtained by E! News, Spiegel states that Jolie's request is "unnecessary, omits material information and is a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage." In response to Jolie's child support accusations against Pitt, the new court filing stated that Pitt "adamantly disputes the contention the he has not paid significant child support." The court papers claim that Pitt has previously loaned Jolie $8 million to "assist her in purchasing her current residence" and has paid over $1.3 million in bills "for the benefit" of Jolie and their minor children. The man who supplied Demi Lovato with drugs the night she OD'd said she knew exactly the chance she was taking ... that she was ingesting "aftermarket pills," which made things risky. Brandon Johnson told our photog Demi texted him at 4 AM, the morning she OD'd, and asked him to come over. He says he read between the lines and brought pills, which they freebased together. He strongly insinuates the 2 of them did drugs together many times before and even had a sexual relationship. Our Demi sources strongly deny there was any sexual relationship. As for the pills, Johnson says Demi knew they were not pharmaceuticals, but much stronger ... though he denies knowing they were laced with anything. TMZ broke the story ... Johnson notoriously got pills from Mexico, many of which were allegedly laced with fentanyl. Johnson says he left at around 7 or 8 AM and Demi was sleeping with no sign of distress. An assistant found Demi in deep distress at around 11:30 AM on July 24 and called 911. She almost died and had to be revived by Narcan. We broke the story ... Demi's OD was likely triggered by Oxycodone laced with fentanyl from the batch supplied by Johnson. Demi's now out of the hospital and has entered an out-of-state rehab facility. Various friends of Demi have told TMZ they knew Johnson was hanging out with her a lot and also knew he was "bad news," and will do everything in their power to keep him away from her. Johnson was arrested back in March -- one month before he allegedly connected with the singer -- with a stash of guns, drugs and cash. When cops picked him up he allegedly had narcotics, a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun and $10k in his pocket ... and they discovered more guns, drugs and ammo at his home. He was also arrested in June and charged with DUI and possession of cocaine. (TMZ)

The Goldbergs' Jackson Odell Died of an Accidental Drug Overdose. The cause of actor Jackson Odell's death has been revealed: The Goldbergs star had suffered an accidental drug overdose. The 20-year-old, who played Ari Caldwell on the ABC comedy series from 2013 to 2015, was found unresponsive at a sober living facility near Los Angeles in June. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office recently determined that Odell died of "acute heroin and cocaine toxicity" and that the manner of his death was accidental, E! News has learned. The department had told E! News shortly after the actor's death that he had a history of heroin addiction and that his last drug test was clean. No drugs or drug paraphernalia were found at the scene of his death and that there were also no signs of foul play. After Odell's death, his family said in a statement, "The Odell family has lost our beloved son and brother, Jackson Odell...He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul. He had so much more to share. Our family will always carry that truth forward. Our wish is that the rest of the world who knew and loved him does as well." In addition to The Goldbergs, Odell also appeared on shows such as Private Practice, iCarly, Modern Family, Arrested Development and The Fosters, and the 2011 movie Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. He was also a singer-songwriter and contributed several songs to the soundtrack for the 2018 film Forever My Girl, including "Wings of an Angel," made famous by Lauren Alaina. (Eonline)
