Youth leadership program offered The Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce has developed a program to get youth involved with and educated about the City of Sierra Vista, patterned after the Leadership Sierra Vista Program. This is an opportunity for high school seniors to get involved and start to build their resumes. The program runs from December – May, one day a month, 12:30 – 5 p.m. At the end of the program the students will receive a certificate as well as a possible internship for the summer of 2015. Mayor’s Arts, Humanities Award The Sierra Vista Arts and Humanities Commission is seeking nominations for the 2014 Mayor's Arts and Humanities Awards to recognize those who have significantly contributed to the arts or humanities in Sierra Vista in 2014. Nominations are accepted in three categories: individuals, corporations or organizations, and arts in education, and are judged on the significance of the contribution, breadth of population served, and project longevity or intensity. Become an outdoor woman The Huachuca Gould’s Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host a woman only overnight outdoor event Oct. 18 – 19, on the Rose Tree Ranch, located south of State Route 82 and east of Sonoita. This event for women 14 and over costs $35. Lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday will be provided. The event will have beginning and advanced instruction with .22 pistols, .22 rifles, shotgun and archery, along with individual instruction with personally owned firearm or bow. Sunday will conclude with classes on basic camping, outdoor survival gear, and first aid (basic and emergency procedures). Class size is limited, so register early. Sierra VistAbility Day planned Sierra VistAbility Day takes place Oct. 11, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the Mall at Sierra Vista, El Mercado Loop. The day promotes independent living for individuals with disabilities and their families.
