After being fed a cocoa rich diet for eight weeks, rats with cancerous colon lesions had fewer colon tumors than similar rats on a cocoa free diet. Cocoa's antioxidant polyphenois may shut off the communication among cancerous cells that allows them to grow, the study authors say. Future research may prove a similar effect in humans.
