Sierra Vista Animal Connection Where great people go to meet great pets!

Be a Local Tourist Friends of the San Pedro River Hikes

The San Pedro River is the last free flowing river in the Southwest and has been designated one of Last Great Places by the Nature Conservancy. It also features some of the richest wildlife habitat in the United States. Join the Friends of the San Pedro River on hikes to explore and learn more about the river.  Two hikes led by trained docents are offered on Saturday, June 7. The first is a hike for birders starting at 7:00 a.m. near the Hereford Bridge. The group will meet at the Hereford Bridge Trailhead just south of Hereford Road and west of the River. The second hike is a two-mile interpretive walk over easy terrain along the river starting at 8:00 a.m. at the San Pedro House, 9800 E. Hwy 90.  Remember to bring plenty of water and dress appropriately for hiking and weather conditions. Admission is free but donations are accepted. 

Citizens’ Police Academy Application Deadline: Friday, June 20

Register now for the Citizen Police Academy for an insider glimpse into the daily adventures of Sierra Vista Police officers. This twelve-week academy starts on August 6 and class will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Sierra Vista Police Auditorium. The academy is free and open to adults 18 and older.  Students will be involved in numerous activities including touring the police facility and Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center, hands-on simulated weapons training, evidence processing, and participating in a ride-along with an on-duty police officer and/or observing in our Dispatch Bureau. Some other information and topics covered throughout the academy include: traffic accident investigations, gang activity, constitutional law, arrest control techniques, drug investigations, DUI enforcement, Police Department Tactical Team, and K9 Officer. Flag Day Throw-a-Bowl-a-Thon Saturday, June 14, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon Ceramic Studio, Room 405 Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus

Get your red, white, and blue on for a patriotic good time. If you can throw on the pottery wheel, please come make a few bowls to help feed the hungry in Cochise County. If you don’t know how to throw, come and find out how you can learn at Cochise College. There will be refreshments and lots of mud-slinging fun!

Water Wise Presents: Success with Succulents Saturday, June 7, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. U of A Sierra Vista, 1140 N. Colombo Ave. Groth Hall, Public Meeting Room Free

Tsunami Night “The Cove cranks up the waves!” Friday, June 6, 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Sierra Vista Aquatic Center “The Cove” $10 per person
