THINGS THAT MAKE YOU LOOK OLDER Whether you like it or not, you will get older and look older, too. While the aging process can't be stopped, there are things we do that speed it up, such as soaking up too much sun or smoking. But did you know that your bed or headphones can also age you prematurely? U.S. News & World Report assembled a list of surprising things that make us feel and look older: 1. Allergies Be it from allergies to pets or pollen, chronic inflammation of the delicate membranes around the eyes will make you look older. Not only does allergy-induced swelling and itching darken the skin around the eyes, but also causes wrinkles and blemishes. 2. Your bed If you spend too much or too little time sleeping, you can shorten your life. The ideal amount of nightly sleep is seven hours. But when you consistently sleep less than six hours or more than nine hours, it can cause health problems. 3. Your headphones Hearing loss is not inevitable as we age

Students, you may be able to predict your SAT performance

Students, you may be able to predict your SAT performance just by looking at your hands. Teenagers whose ring finger is longer than their index finger are likely to score higher on the math section of the SAT, while those whose index finger is longer will do better on the reading and writing sections, according to researchers from the University of Bath in Great Britain. LiveScience.com reports that scientists have long known that finger length is a reflection of areas of the brain that are more highly developed. This is determined by the amount of the hormones testosterone and estrogen a fetus is exposed to in the womb. Testosterone is thought to promote spatial and mathematical skills and that makes the ring finger longer. Estrogen is the opposite. It promotes verbal ability and tends to lengthen the index finger in relation to the ring finger.

TEN FOODS TO HELP WITH YOUR HANGOVER (SkinnyMom.com) Okay, so maybe you indulged just a little bit too much last night. The holidays are coming up, after all, and you may or may not have needed a tiny escape from the crazy relatives (read: in-laws). Well, who would we be to pretend we all haven't been there before? When you're hungover, your body needs to restock on fructose, vitamins, amino acids and minerals that can break down the toxins from alcohol and lessen your body's negative reaction to the chemicals in booze. Sounds easy enough, right? Try these ten foods to help get rid of that splitting headache or nauseous stomach ASAP and kick that hangover to the curb. 1. Water: Water should be your number one priority! It's a diuretic, which means it pushes liquids (and the remaining alcohol) out of your body. Plus, alcohol dehydrates your body, and when your body's water tank is low, it will pull from any available resource -- like your brain, which causes
I NEVER LIE So when was the last time you lied -- we're talking little lies here, not whoppers -- to your lover? And don't even think of saying, "What? I never lie!" You do, too! According to Dr. Phil McGraw, by the time they are 60 years old, men have told more than 100,000 lies and women have uttered some 50,000 untruths. "It's interesting because men lie twice as much as women," Dr. Phil said. "On average, men lie six times a day. Women lie three times a day." Women lie to their man for several reasons, but primarily to protect his feelings or save her butt. The top four lies women tell, according to Dr. Phil: I'm fine. There's nothing wrong. Oh, this isn't new! I've had this old thing forever. Oh, this was cheap! I got it on sale. I've got a headache. The top four lies men tell, according to Dr. Phil: I'm fine. There's nothing wrong. This is my last drink. No, that doesn't make you look
TOP 10 MOST STUPID PHRASES They are not only overused and lacking in originality, but many popular phrases and cliches indicate at the very least a poor command of basic English grammar and at worst mental laziness. In other words, say any of these and you'll just sound stupid. Writing in the Chicago Tribune , author T.R. Slyder has identified not only the worst offenders, but also created smarter-sounding alternatives. Here are the top 10 most stupid phrases: 1. "It is what it is." Slyder's Substitute: Since "it is" = "it is," don't make the definition be the exact words of the words that are also being defined. Translation: Just don't say it! 2. "I don't give a rat's ass." Slyder's Substitute: I don't care or just stare in stony silence. 3. "How do you REALLY feel?" Slyder's Substitutes: "Say your thang, doggy!" "Easy, big tiger." "Deep breath." (And

HOW TO LIVE ONE HUNDRED YEARS More than 84,000 people living in the U.S. today are 100 years or older. By the 2040, that number is expected to grow to 580,000 -- an increase of 590 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Being one of the lucky ones who gets 100 candles on a birthday cake someday takes more than good genes, although that definitely helps. Many scientists estimate that longevity is based 20 percent on genetics, with 80 percent determined by your lifestyle choices and environment. And while some centenarians claim a single habit as the key to their long life -- doing crossword puzzles, drinking a glass of wine every day or taking cold showers -- the reality is that it's the right combination of healthy habits, social connections, brain-boosting activities, good genes and even a bit of luck that goes into living a century or more. United Healthcare surveyed 100 Americans who turned 100 in 2010 to provide a snapshot of the healthy habits that keep them going

Ten interview questions that are illegal to ask:

Job seekers may think they're the only ones sweating the job interview -- afraid they'll say the wrong thing or answer inappropriately -- but hiring managers are under just as much pressure. There are a number of questions interviewers are legally not allowed to ask, but sometimes the parameters are not clear. For example, in an attempt to make a candidate feel at ease, the interviewer might innocently ask him, "What does your wife do?" Wrong. It's illegal to ask if someone is married, even using a backdoor approach like this. According to CareerBuilder.com, 20 percent of hiring managers admitted in a nationwide survey by Harris Poll that they asked a question in a job interview they found out later was illegal to ask. Ten interview questions that are illegal to ask: What is your religious affiliation? Are you pregnant? What is your political affiliation? What is your race, color or ethnicity? How old are you? Are you disabled? Are you married? Do you
