Walnuts may help the brain fight Alzheimer

Walnuts may help the brain fight Alzheimer Hungry? Grab a handful of walnuts. It appears that the nut -- which, oddly, looks a lot like the human brain -- may help the brain fight Alzheimer's by not only reducing the risk and delaying the onset of the disease, but also slowing its progression or even preventing it. The mice in the study that ate the walnut-rich diet experienced significant improvements in learning skills, memory and motor development, as well as had lower anxiety levels. How do walnuts fight Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia? Chauhan suggests that the high antioxidant content of the nuts helps protect the brain from the degeneration that is typically seen in Alzheimer's disease, an affliction that currently affects about five million Americans. By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer's disease is expected to more than triple to as many as 16 million.
