It's hard (rock) to believe, but Edgar Winter turns 70 today. He's most famous for his song, "Frankenstein." Not many people know, but I wrote the words for that song. It was on this date in 1788 that a second settlement was begun at what is now Cincinnati. That was back when WKRP was the name of a fort. Woodrow Wilson, our 28th president, was born on this date in 1865. Hey, he led our country through World War I... where's the day off? Chewing Gum is patented way, way back in 1869 by William Semple -- The boys at the patent office found the idea hard to swallow. Modern chewing gum was invented when "chicle," a latex sap much like rubber, was brought to the U.S. In 1870, the first flavored gum, Black Jack, was manufactured. William Wrigley Jr. was selling Spearmint and Juicy Fruit by 1893. Chiclets and gumballs came in the early 1900s -- and Walter Diemer invented Dubble Bubble bubble gum in 1928.
