Motorists should plan ahead, expect possible delays due to ASU football scrimmage
PHOENIX – Motorists traveling along State Route 260 east of Payson on Saturday, Aug. 15, should plan ahead and allow for extra travel time as heavy traffic is expected due to the annual Camp Tontozona football scrimmage, hosted by Arizona State University.
In order to accommodate the large crowds, the eastbound lanes between Kohl’s Ranch and Christopher Creek (mileposts 268-272) will be temporarily closed from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow Camp Tontozona visitors to park along the eastbound portion of the highway.
Along this nearly five-mile-long stretch, approximately 17 miles west of Payson, the highway will be narrowed to one lane in each direction and all through traffic will be diverted onto the westbound lanes.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up to date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center ataz511.gov or call 5-1-1.
