Sidewalk project along SR 90 in Huachuca City set to begin late June

The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin construction on a project to add concrete sidewalks along State Route 90 in Huachuca City in late June.

The $343,000 federally funded project will add sidewalks along the east side of SR 90 between School Drive and Patton Street, as well as on School Drive between SR 90 and Gila Street.

Construction activities are scheduled to begin June 26 with clearing of vegetation in the project area, followed by demolition and removal of the existing curb and gutter. The new sidewalks, including new curb and gutter in selected areas, will meet requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and will include concrete entrances at driveways in the project area.

Other improvements will include:

  • Landscaping featuring gold-colored decomposed granite adjacent to the sidewalk
  • Irrigation sleeves beneath the sidewalks
  • A pedestrian rest area with seating
  • Trash receptacles
  • Drainage improvements and utility adjustments
  • Monument signs located off SR 90 near the edge of the town limits

Work will be done Mondays through Thursdays during the daytime and will run through mid-October 2015.

The impact to motorists is expected to be minimal, with shoulder closures along westbound SR 90 and the possibility of some lane closures, if needed. ADOT will provide information in advance of any work requiring lane closures or speed reductions through the project area.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center atwww.az511.gov or call 511.
