Utility work scheduled for early Saturday morning on Interstate 8

UPDATE: Paving operations underway on Chino Road in Douglas
Paving operations began this week on Chino Road in Douglas and are expected to continue daily from Thursday, June 25 until Thursday, July 2.

No paving is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, but operations are expected to continue through the weekend following earlier delays.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors such as equipment failure.

Paving began Tuesday, June 23 on the north end of the project area – approximately 2,000 feet north of the intersection of Chino Road and Ninth Street – and is scheduled to continue daily from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. including Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28.

Crews are expected to work until noon on Thursday, July 2, when the Arizona Department of Transportation will stop all work affecting traffic through the July 4 weekend.

During paving activities north of Ninth Street and south of Third Street – where a new alignment of Chino Road has been constructed – those areas will be closed to all traffic.

When the segment of Chino Road between Ninth and Third streets is being paved, one lane of traffic will remain open with crews directing motorists in both directions through the work area.

The work is part of a project to divert passenger traffic away from Pan American Avenue (US 191B) in Douglas to ease congestion in the commercial district near the Douglas Port of Entry.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
