Important LPA Notice: MUTCD Interim Approval for Optical Use of Two-Stage Bicycle Turn Boxes (IA-20)

This memorandum serves as notice to Local Public Agencies concerning newly issued Interim Approval (IA‐20). IA‐20 was issued in accordance with Section 1A.10 of the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The document is known as the Interim Approval for Optional Use of Two‐Stage Bicycle Turn Boxes (IA‐20). IA‐20 is attached to this memorandum.

LPAs are encouraged to review IA‐20. LPAs that want to utilize IA‐20 shall request permission from the FHWA, according to MUTCD Section 1A.10.
