Plan for weekend closures as improvement work continues on Interstate 17 in Phoenix

Also: Temporary I-17 closures scheduled near Anthem early Sunday, June 25

Southbound Interstate 17 will be closed in Phoenix this weekend as crews install lane stripes on the recently paved southbound travel lanes and add new, updated pedestrian fencing at major cross streets. Drivers can use southbound State Route 51 or the southbound I-17 frontage road as alternate routes. Please allow extra travel time and plan ahead for heavy traffic.

The following restrictions will be in place from 10 p.m. Friday, June 23, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 26:
Southbound I-17 will be closed between Dunlap Avenue and Bethany Home Road.
The southbound I-17 on ramps will be closed at Peoria, Dunlap, Northern and Glendale avenues.
The northbound I-17 HOV lane will be closed between Glendale and Northern avenues.
East and westbound Northern Avenue will be restricted to one lane at I-17. Expect heavy traffic in the area.

Also this weekend, I-17 will be temporarily closed in both directions near Anthem between 12:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday, June 25, for a power-line crossing. Expect intermittent closures lasting up to 15 minutes. Allow extra travel time and be prepared for slowing or stopped traffic in area. Law enforcement officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or email Projects@azdot.gov.
