Intermittent restrictions to occur on SR 86 east of Sells in coming weeks

Motorists traveling on State Route 86 east of the town of Sells may encounter delays in the coming weeks while the Arizona Department of Transportation conducts earthwork as part of a project to improve a five-mile segment of the highway.

Intermittent flagging operations will be used to stop traffic approximately 15 miles east of Sells to allow construction equipment to cross the highway. Delays are expected to be less than 15 minutes and the dates and times are uncertain.

The project, located in the community of San Isidro on the Tohono O’odham Nation (milepost 124 to milepost 129), will entail widening the highway and constructing two 12-foot travel lanes with eight-foot shoulders.

Posted speed reductions are in effect in the project area.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center atwww.az511.gov or call 511.
