ON THIS DAY

Martha Washington was born on this date, back in 1732. She was our country's first "First Lady," by George.

The Marquis de Sade was born on this date in 1740. Can you beat that? On this date in 1851, Maine became the first state to enact a law prohibiting alcohol. So, blame them for the idea.
  • My theory -- they must have been drunk!
  • Like that's a badge of honor.
  • We heard it came after a serious night of drinking.
  • They were also the first state to have "unhappy hours."
  • We can only surmise that they must have been drunk.

In 1858, Donati discovered his comet and soon had the cleanest sinks in town!

On this date in 1886, President Grover Cleveland married Frances Folsom and became the first president (and to date the only) to wed while in office.
Now, if you expand it to Presidents who have honeymooned while in office, that list gets longer.
To protect the president, several secret service agents threw themselves on the bride, but the wedding still went off.

In 1896, Marconi is given a patent on his new invention, the radio.
So blame him for this program.
After being caller number 9. * It didn't really take off until he invented the radio station.

On this date in 1910, pygmies were discovered in Dutch New Guinea. Discovered doing what, I don't know.

The White House swimming pool was completed on this date, back in 1933. The depth by the diving board was 9 feet, according to an unidentified source, known as "Deep End."

TODAY IS

Justin Long turns 39 today. He's come a long way from being the Apple Guy in those Mac Versus PC commercials.

Zachary Quinto turns the big 4-0 today. You know him as Spock in the new Star Trek movies.

Whose birthday is it anyway? Oh yeah, Wayne Brady turns 45. We'd wish him a happy birthday, but we don't know whose line it is, anyway.

Taye Diggs turns 46 today. He helped Stella... and really, thousands of other women... get their groove back.

Rap singer B-Real turns 47 today. By the way, B-Real is a member of Cypress Hill. I think a publishing company already took that one.

Dana Carvey is 62 today. Isn't that special?

Butch Patrick, the kid who played Eddie Munster years ago on TV's "The Munsters," is 64 today. Still don't know why he never recorded "The Munster Mash."

Jerry Mathers is 69 today. He is and always will be "The Beaver." Dam, right.

Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones is 76 today. I'm not saying he's looking pretty worn out, but he can't go near the set of "The Walking Dead" or someone might try to take him out. You know what makes Charlie Watts look so good? Standing next to Keith Richards.

National Rocky Road Day -- Icecream.com says folks who like Rocky Road are a balanced mixture of charm and practicality, you are outgoing and engaging in social situations, but when it comes to business, you are aggressive and goal-oriented. You love the finer things in life and enjoy being catered to. Minor slights upset you, and you respond best to encouragement instead of criticism. Romantic Compatibility: You are most compatible with other Rocky Road fans.

National Bubba Day -- Celebrating anyone who is called Bubba by birth or as a nickname.
