Signal pole to be raised at Ajo Way and Interstate 19 on Wednesday, Feb. 8

Motorists traveling on Ajo Way at Interstate 19 will encounter restrictions Wednesday, Feb. 8, while the Arizona Department of Transportation erects a traffic signal pole at the interchange on Tucson’s southwest side.

The right lane of eastbound Ajo Way (State Route 86) and the northbound on-ramp from Ajo Way to I-19 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to allow crews to install the signal pole.

Motorists wishing to enter northbound I-19 can use Irvington or take 12th Avenue north to Interstate 10 during this restriction.

The work is part of a project to replace the existing traffic interchange with a modern single-point urban interchange.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
