Schedule change for evening closure of US 163 bridge near Kayenta Geotechnical work to close Laguna Creek bridge Sunday night, Nov. 20

The US 163 bridge over Laguna Creek near the Navajo Nation community of Kayenta will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday, Nov. 20, while the Arizona Department of Transportation completes geotechnical work.
Closures originally scheduled for the evenings of Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18, have been rescheduled until then.
Drivers will need to find an alternate route or delay travel during the closure. A designated detour route isn’t available. Accommodations will be made for emergency vehicles.
Because of a long-range project to replace the US 163 bridge over Laguna Creek, ADOT has been conducting geotechnical work in the creek bed. ADOT will use a 90-ton crane during Sunday night’s closure to lift auguring equipment approximately 65 feet out of Laguna Creek.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors. For the latest highway conditions around the state, visit ADOT’s Travel Information Site at az511.gov, follow us on Twitter (@ArizonaDOT) or call 511.
