Weekend restriction scheduled on Interstate 19 at Santa Cruz River south of Tucson

Motorists traveling on I-19 south of Tucson will encounter travel restrictions this weekend while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues work to replace bridge decks at the Santa Cruz River.

Both the northbound and southbound I-19 bridges over the Santa Cruz River will be narrowed to one lane in each direction from 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18 to 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, while crews repair bridge deck joints.

Motorists can expect delays during this work and should plan for extra travel time.

Overnight work on the bridge will resume from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, and Tuesday, Nov. 22.

No work is scheduled from Wednesday, Nov. 23 through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

After the holiday weekend, night work will resume Sundays through Fridays through December 13. Lane closures will be in effect nightly from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors.
