SUBTLE WAYS SHE REJECTS YOU

Your technique might be so good you've been offered book deals and a reality television show, but unless you can tell that the woman is interested in you, you're wasting your time with even the best pick-up lines. No one's saying it's easy. According to research at Indiana University, most guys interpret a woman's friendly gestures -- even something as innocent as a smile -- as a sexual advance. Want to know if she's brushing you off? Look for these rejection red flags.

Excuses, excuses
She's "taking a break from dating" or "super busy with work right now." Would she change her rules or find time for a guy she's really into? Probably, but you're not him. These excuses are her first line of defense against guys like you.

The men in her life
Obviously, if she mentions a boyfriend or husband, it's game over. But pay attention for other references. She might casually mention a rotten ex she's getting over or refer to a few of her guy pals (i.e. the category she's planning on tossing you into). Or she'll mention what her type is - only you're not it. She'll say how she could never date a guy who's into jazz, or has cats, or isn't at least six feet tall. Whatever she says, it'll apply to you.

She was just leaving
If she's not interested in you chatting her up, she'll let you know early on that she's meeting someone (and they'll be there any minute now, she'll insist as she looks around the room desperately) or that - despite the fact that she just ordered another apple martini - she was just about to leave.

She's visibly uncomfortable
She's fidgety, glancing over your shoulder and giving you one-word answers to your detailed questions. Her body language - legs and arms crossed away from you, tapping her fingers or feet impatiently - will say if she's uncomfortable being near you.
