Brief daytime delays begin this week on eastbound Ajo Way near I-19

Motorists traveling eastbound on Ajo Way may encounter brief daytime delays east of Interstate 19 starting Thursday, March 9, to allow trucks to haul materials to the bridge replacement project in southwest Tucson.

Flaggers will briefly stop eastbound traffic on Ajo Way (State Route 86) from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily starting Thursday and continuing weekdays through Tuesday, March 21. No lanes will be closed, but traffic will be stopped for short periods throughout the day to allow haul trucks to enter Ajo Way from I-19.

The flagging operation will not be in effect on weekends.

The work is part of a $40 million project to replace the existing traffic interchange at I-19 and Ajo Way with a modern single-point urban interchange.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
