Juniper Fire causing delays on stretch of of SR 288 in Gila County

A wildfire in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness of the Tonto National Forest is causing delays along State Route 288, the route between Roosevelt Lake and the remote Gila County community of Young.

As crews work to halt the Juniper fire, an Arizona Department of Transportation pilot car is guiding traffic through one direction at a time. Delays of 20 to 30 minutes were occurring Wednesday (May 25) in a stretch of several miles between mileposts 278 and 292.
