Northbound Interstate 17 closed this weekend between 19th Avenue and Thomas Road Drivers should plan ahead and consider alternate routes

The Arizona Department of Transportation continues the project to add a new layer of smooth rubberized asphalt to I-17 between Dunlap and 19th avenues in Phoenix. The next in a series of weekend closures is scheduled to begin Friday night. ADOT encourages drivers to plan ahead and use alternate routes, including State Route 51 and Loop 101, in addition to the frontage road, 19th Avenue and 27th Avenue.

Closures and restrictions include:
Northbound I-17 will be closed between 19th Avenue and Thomas Road from 10 p.m. Friday, April 21, to 5 a.m. Monday, April 24. Drivers should consider using westbound Interstate 10 as an alternate freeway route in the downtown Phoenix area. The left lane of southbound I-17 will be closed at McDowell Road for fence work.

Please note that McDowell Road also will be closed in both directions at I-17 at the same time.

Drivers can expect heavier traffic on Thomas Road near I-17, and should consider using Indian School or Camelback roads as alternate east-west routes.

I-17 will be closed in segments each weekend through the end of June. Only one direction will be closed at a time.

Drivers should use caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment in work zones.

No restrictions or closures will be scheduled over the Memorial Day holiday weekend in May.
