Nighttime restrictions coming Thursday, Sept. 29 at I-19 and Ajo Way
Motorists traveling in the area of Interstate 19 and Ajo Way will experience more nighttime restrictions onThursday, Sept. 29 as work continues to replace the traffic interchange on Tucson’s southwest side.
The following restrictions are scheduled from 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 until 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30 :

  • Southbound I-19 will be narrowed to one lane from Ajo Way to Irvington Road for highway striping
  • The southbound I-19 off-ramp at Irvington Road will be closed for highway striping and placement of concrete barrier
  • The on-ramp from Ajo Way (State Route 86) onto southbound I-19 will be closed for striping and placement of concrete barrier

The work is part of a $40 million project to replace the existing traffic interchange with a modern single-point urban interchange and make improvements to both I-19 and Ajo Way in the project area.
Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors. For the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 511, except while driving.
