Rock stabilization on SR 288 south of Young starts with vegetation removal
Motorists traveling on State Route 288 south of the community of Young will encounter weekday travel restrictions through early October while the Arizona Department of Transportation clears vegetation in advance of a project to remove hazard rocks next to the highway.
ADOT personnel will use flags to direct traffic in both directions through the restricted area just south of McFadden Peak at approximately milepost 290 on SR 288 in Gila County. Brief delays can be expected weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.
In October, crews will begin blasting operations to remove the hazard rock, requiring some full closures of SR 288. ADOT will provide more detailed information about the full closures before blasting operations begin.
The $740,000 project involves stabilizing a rock slope next to the highway, widening the roadway and making drainage improvements.
Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors. For the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 511, except while driving.
