Traveling in southwest Arizona? Watch for paving and striping projects on Interstates 8 and 10 in the coming weeks
Drivers should plan for lane closures west of Yuma and Quartzsite
The ongoing pavement-improvement project on Interstate 8 west of Yuma will require lane and ramp closures this week; and on Interstate 10 west of Quartzsite, drivers should plan for lane restrictions while thermal lane striping and guardrail repair is underway.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is paving a nine-mile stretch of I-8 in both directions between milepost 21 near Ligurta and milepost 29 at approximately Avenue 27 E. Drivers should slow down and use caution while the following restrictions are in place:
Westbound I-8 will be narrowed to one lane at milepost 22 and the westbound on- and off-ramps at Exit 21 will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25. Drivers should use Exit 30 instead. Drivers who pass Exit 30 will have to use the next available traffic interchange at Foothills Boulevard, located nine miles farther west.
Eastbound I-8 will be narrowed to one lane at milepost 22 and the eastbound on-ramp will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25. Drivers should use Exit 30 as an alternate.
Eastbound I-8 will be narrowed to one lane for nine miles beginning at milepost 20 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, while crews mill and pave the left-hand travel lane. A 12-foot width restriction is in place. Drivers should slow down, be prepared to merge and use caution in the work zone.
Paving work on I-8 is expected to last another eight weeks. However the work schedule can change because of weather or other unforeseen factors.
On Interstate 10, crews will continue thermal lane striping and guardrail repairs during daytime hours this week and the week of Jan. 30-Feb.3. Drivers should slow down and be prepared to merge while the following restriction is in place:
I-10 is narrowed to one lane in both directions between milepost 30, near the junction with US 60, and milepost 42, near Vicksburg Road.
Work on this stretch of I-10 is scheduled for completion by the end of February.
