On The Road With ADOT

SR 77 Construction north of Tucson through December

Motorists traveling on State Route 77 (Oracle Road), north of Oro Valley to Catalina, should be aware of the following traffic restrictions as the Arizona Department of Transportation has shifted traffic to the north- and southbound lanes of SR 77. Traffic is restricted to two through lanes in each direction while the median and interior lane is constructed.

Construction crews will not be working Thursday (Dec. 24) through Sunday (Dec. 27) and Thursday (Dec. 31) through Sunday (Jan. 3) in observance of the winter holiday. Work will resume Monday (Jan. 4).

The work is part of a project to widen the roadway between Tangerine Road and the Pinal County line.

Construction Activities
    • SR 77 has a right lane closure in both directions between Thistle Street and Eagle Crest Ranch Boulevard through 4 p.m. Friday (Dec. 18) for driveway work. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction while this work is being completed.
    • SR 77 has rolling lane closures in both directions between Tangerine Road and Thistle Street on Thursday (Dec. 17) and Friday (Dec. 18) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for pavement marking.
    • SR 77 will have left-turn lane restrictions at Golder Ranch Drive and Wilds Road on Saturday (Dec. 19) between 8 a.m. and noon. Turns will be restricted but through access will be maintained.
    • Left turns on SR 77 between Big Wash Overlook Place and Thistle Street will have intermittent daily closures Saturday (Dec. 19) through Wednesday (Dec. 23) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for paving.
    • SR 77 intersections between Big Wash Overlook Place and Thistle Street will have intermittent daily closures Saturday (Dec. 19) and again Monday (Dec. 21) through Wednesday (Dec. 23) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for paving.
    • There will be no restrictions on SR 77 from Thursday (Dec. 24) through Sunday (Dec. 27) and minimal restrictions Monday (Dec. 28) through Thursday (Dec. 31).

Law enforcement will be monitoring this area as the speed limit has been reduced as follows:
    • 40 mph from Tangerine Road to Rancho Vistoso Boulevard.
    • 35 mph from Rancho Vistoso Boulevard to Eagle Crest Ranch Boulevard.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrian are urged to obey traffic control, stay away from where crews are working and be cautious while traveling through the work zone, especially in the detour area as shoulders will be significantly restricted.

In addition, please be aware of the following traffic control:
    • Two lanes of travel in each direction will remain open through the work zone during the day.
    • Additional lane restrictions throughout the work boundaries during nighttime operations as needed.
    • Cyclists will need to merge safely onto the traffic lane during shoulder closures.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned roadway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur due to weather or equipment issues.

Drivers are reminded to share the road, be cautious, and slow down while traveling through the work zone.
