Taraji P. Henson's Parenting Advice Is Probably Not What You'd Expect (Listen Up, Cookie Lyon!) Taraji P. Henson might be an actress and an icon in Hollywood, but first and foremost, she's a mother. The 45-year-old star opened up to Redbook in the October issue and explained how her son, Marcel, comes first in all situations, even her love life. "If I was going to get married, it had to be for love, because I wanted Marcel to see that real kind of love -- the kind I yearn for," she explained. "That old couple crooked and bent over but still holding hands. I know that kind of love exists, and I'm not going to stop until I have that." But despite putting her son first, she tries to refrain from being overprotective. In fact, she thinks being too protective can actually harm children. "These days we're so busy protecting our kids, when we really should be pulling back the blinds and showing them that we live in a world that's not always fair and moral," she explained. "Sometimes we try to protect our children so much that when something doesn't go right in their lives, they're unprepared to deal with adversity. I don't think that does our kids any favors." Taraji, a single mother, has learned all of this on her own, and yet her advice is some of the wisest we've heard. So what advice can she give other single mothers? "It depends on what women equate success with," she said. "I think we try to do our best. And yes, we can do it all, but it is not easy." (Eonline)
Drake Continues to Be All Smiles With Rihanna While Partying After His Concert. Drake just can't stop smiling! The "Too Good" rapper was spotted making his way into The Nice Guy with Rihanna after his concert in Los Angeles Wednesday night, and he couldn't seem to wipe his big grin off his face. Drake and RiRi seemed to get the party started in their car, as the "Work" songstress emerged from the SUV with a red cup in hand. We can only imagine the party continued inside the L.A. hotspot. Drake's grin also happened to take place after Kanye West confirmed that he and the Degrassi alum are recording music together. "We're just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio," he told Vogue. "We're working on an album, so there's some exciting things coming up soon." The "One Dance" performer has had a wild couple of weeks since announcing his love for Rihanna on the 2016 Video Music Awards stage. After professing his feelings for the Bajan beauty for all to see, Drake and Rihanna appear to be pretty inseparable. They were spotted out and about in New York City for a couple of days after the awards show, but then take their relationship to Miami where Drake had another concert. "There were several kisses. He had his arm around her all night. They never left each other's side," an eyewitness told E! News. "Even when she was sitting she was leaning on him. They looked like they were having a great time." Rihanna and Drake even decided to take their relationship to a more permanent level by getting matching camo shark tattoos. The unique ink is meant to be a reference to a date they went on to an aquarium when Drake purchased the brunette bombshell a camo shark stuffed animal. So far, these two look like they have no plan to slow down anytime soon! (Eonline)
Paris Jackson's relationship is moving awfully fast. We're told 18-year-old Jackson and Michael Snoddy -- who was a pizza delivery guy when she started dating him six months ago -- have moved into the LA mansion where her father, Michael Jackson, recorded songs including "Billie Jean" and "Beat It." Insiders say the smitten couple has adopted a dog, Koa, and their friends even believe the pair have gotten married in secret. While it's clear from his Instagram account that Snoddy has been wearing a gold band on his ring finger for the past several weeks, the nuptials have not been confirmed. Meanwhile, we're told Snoddy -- who moonlights as a member of a psychedelic drum corp -- has quit his job at D'Amore's Pizza in Malibu, Calif. "Michael [Snoddy] quit his job around July and they moved into the house where Michael [Jackson] grew up," said a source close to Paris. "Now they're trying to do this happy family thing. They refer to themselves as a family a lot." The Encino, Calif., home was purchased by Paris' grandfather, Joe Jackson, at the height of the Jackson Five's success and has been inhabited at one point or another by all the members of the famous Jackson family. The late King of Pop -- who is said to have invented his signature dance, "the moonwalk," at the house -- lived there until he moved to the infamous Neverland Ranch in 1988. Since his death in 2009, the Encino home has been fought over by his mother, Katherine Jackson, and his estate. Paris -- who reportedly gets an $8-million-a-year allowance from the estate -- had been living with her grandmother and her brothers, Michael Jr. and Prince Michael (a.k.a. Blanket), in a seven-bedroom mansion in Calabasas, Calif., which Katherine had bought for them in 2011. A rep for Paris didn't get back to us. (Page Six)
Paris Jackson's alone and in charge ... living in the back guesthouse at Michael's old Encino mansion. Sources close to the family tell TMZ ... Paris had been itching to cut the cord from living with her grandmother in Calabasas ... where Blanket and a several of her cousins also live. We're told the family had security concerns about her living just anywhere, so it was suggested she use MJ's old compound. Michael's estate controls all of his properties, meaning ... technically, Paris needed permission to live there. We're told she went to them, and pointed out she basically owns the crib as part of her trust -- and the estate didn't fight her. As for why she's in the guesthouse -- the main house is being remodeled. We're also told Paris is living there completely on her own. She and bf Michael Snoddy recently posted pics from the backyard -- he comes and goes, but does NOT live there. (TMZ)
Nick Young is not only over Iggy Azalea, he hopes she ties the knot with her new BF, French Montana ... then again he could be dripping in sarcasm. We got Nick out and about in L.A. Wednesday and he was all smiles when our photog asked about Iggy's rebound man. Nick, who knows a thing or 2 about rebounds, sounded anxious for Iggy and French to seal the deal. Iggy repeatedly put Nick on blast for allegedly cheating on her, but at least on the surface it's all rolled off his back. (TMZ)
In the latest twist of the Twiddleston split, it has emerged that apparently it was Tom Hiddleston that ended their brief romance. Previous reports had said Taylor Swift was the one who called time on their relationship after she felt that he liked the limelight more than he liked her. But, friends of the actor (who are presumably biased) say that Hiddleston is renowned commitment-phobe and got bored. "The reports are wide of the mark and come as news to all Tom's friends," said a theater producer who worked with Hiddleston on Coriolanus. "He grew tired of Taylor, it wasn't the other way round." "Tom drifted from her and it had nothing to do with her being put off by the publicity," he added. "It's more to do with the fact he's a commitment-phobe who gets bored very easily." The producer added that Hiddleston has a "three-month rule" when he usually tires of whoever he's dating. "They had a short break together in Rhode Island last month but it didn't go that well because Tom was fixated with his fitness regime for Thor: Ragnorak, much to her displeasure," said the producer. "They agreed to end the relationship over the phone a few weeks later." Who knows? We look forward to hearing Swift's side of the story when she will inevitably release a cryptic song about it. Elizabeth Vargas, who battles alcohol addiction, has recalled a 13-hour blackout so severe that she's not sure of all the details. The ABC anchor became so inebriated one day in July 2012 that a good Samaritan had to pick her up and bring her home after finding her wandering around her neighborhood, she told People in this week's issue. By the time she got to her apartment, she had reportedly fallen unconscious and had to be taken to the emergency room, where she woke up completely unaware of how she got there. "It was terrifying once I started to hear the particulars," said Vargas, 54. "I will never know who that person was that saved my life. I spent a lot of time and energy after that trying to pry a memory out around that padlocked door, and I can't. I was sure that in a few weeks ... I could get something out. No. I don't remember anything." Vargas has been candid about her addiction, revealing in 2014 that she's an alcoholic and talking about enduring two stints in rehab. She details her battles with alcoholism and anxiety in her book, "Between Breaths: A Memoir of Panic and Addiction," out Tuesday. "Addiction is a hopeless, dark place," she told People. "I have great empathy for people trapped there. And I hope my story can help someone else." (Page Six)

Rosie O'Donnell's Daughter Chelsea Undergoing Psychiatric Evaluation After Hospitalization. Rosie O'Donnell's formerly estranged daughter Chelsea O'Donnell has been hospitalized at a Long Island hospital. E! News has learned that the 19-year-old is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation. While there's no word on when Chelsea is going to be released, we're told that she is "alert and awake" and "is safe." O'Donnell has been admitted to the state-wide program which aims to offer psychiatric evaluations on an emergency basis, as well as any subsequent treatment services such as interventions or medical professional referrals depending on the patient's needs. Chelsea will be evaluated by social workers, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals. O'Donnell's rep has no comment. Rosie O'Donnell and her daughter have had quite the strained relationship over the years, but seemed to have made amends recently. Just a week ago, Rosie shared a selfie with her teenage daughter in honor of her birthday, writing, "happy birthday chelsea belle !!! 19 today #believe." Their personal strife reached a peak last summer when the then 17-year-old was reported missing from the television personality's New York home. "Chelsea stopped taking her medicine and is in need of medical attention," a post read on Rosie's website at the time. "Any information please contact authorities." Police later found Chelsea in New Jersey at the house of a 26-year-old man with an arrest record. No arrests were made at the time because Chelsea was there voluntarily. After her 18th birthday a week later, Chelsea and Rosie's relationship faced another hurdle when her daughter opted to move in with her birth mother, Deanna Micoley, who gave Chelsea up for adoption as a baby in 1997. "Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother," Rosie's publicist told E! News at the time. "This was her choice." However, last month, there was a glimmer of hope in rekindling their relationship when Rosie shared a photo of herself with Chelsea, with the caption, "chelsea and me - what a difference a year makes. #hopelives." UPDATE: O'Donnell took to Twitter to share an update about her daughter Chelsea. "She is ok...#RealLife #chillymy," she wrote, adding a throwback photo of her daughter. (Eonline)

The singer-actor-designer and his childhood best friend-turned-business partner Trace Ayala are relaunching their William Rast clothing line, and their newest round of fashions are a major nod to their Tennessee roots and Americana as a whole. In a newly released promotional clip for William Rast, named after Justin and Trace's grandfathers, the fellas reflect on how their small-town upbringings ultimately influenced their style and the line they've created. As Justin explains it, "To talk about the brand, you have to understand where we grew up." That would be "in Memphis, like 45 minutes outside of the city," says Trace. Justin points out their hometown of Millington is right down the road from Nashville, "the cornerstone of country music, but Memphis is also the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock and roll." That's why, J.T. explains, the William Rast brand has "gotta be a little bit country, and it's gotta be a little bit rock and roll at the same time." Ryan Lochte Reportedly Suspended for 10 Months as Swimmer Tries to Move Forward on Dancing With the Stars. Ryan Lochte is still facing the consequences from his actions at the Summer Olympics. TMZ Sports reports that the gold medalist has been suspended for 10 months. The outlet also claims that other swimmers involved with the robbery controversy are expected to receive shorter suspensions. The punishment was reportedly handed down by both the US Olympics Committee, US Swimming and the International Olympics Committee. USA Today also confirmed the suspension through sources. Just last month, Ryan apologized for his actions during an interview with Today's Matt Lauer. He also expressed regret at his behavior with his teammates. I'm taking full responsibility for it because I over-exaggerated that story and if I never did that, we wouldn't be in this mess," he shared. "Those guys would never be in Rio. None of this would have happened. It was my immature behavior." Ryan added, "All I know is that I learned my lesson, I definitely did. These kind of shenanigans or whatever you want to call them will never happen again and I love this sport. I dedicated my whole entire life to it and it's not who I am. I'm not done with this sport. There is still more I want to accomplish. All I know is I'm going to move forward from this and learn from this and better myself in making sure this never happens again." That next chapter involves a little moving and shaking on ABC's long-running series Dancing With the Stars. Before Monday's season premiere, E! News chatted with Ryan and his partner Cheryl Burke to get a sense of their mindset going into the ballroom. From the sounds of things, this athlete just wants to move forward with a new adventure. "I think it was a low point in my life, but I was able to get over it and I had a good support group with me," Ryan shared with E! News when reflecting on his summer drama. "A lot of people have given me a lot of positive vibes to just keep pushing me through so I'm putting that behind me and now I'm here to dance." And if you're curious to know if Ryan's diet differs between swimming and dancing, you may be surprised to find out the answer. "Ryan loves to eat junk food. He will just eat Taco Bell. He loves drinking Mountain Dew and he loves pizza and wings every Friday," Cheryl confessed to E! News. "His body is still out of control and totally in shape but he eats like crap. I just don't understand." Hey Dominos, are you free Monday night for a late-night delivery? Dancing With the Stars season 23 premieres Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC. (Eonline)
Tim Tebow has returned to professional sports after signing a baseball contract with the New York Mets, the team confirmed on its Twitter account. The 29-year-old signed a minor league contract and will participate in the Mets' instructional league in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Tebow, a former Heisman Trophy winner and first round draft pick for the Denver Broncos, played three largely disappointing seasons in the NFL, first with the Broncos and then with the New York Jets. He was cut in training camp last year without appearing in a regular season game. Terms of Tebow's contract with the Mets were not disclosed. He announced last month he was pursuing a career in professional baseball. A public workout he conducted last week received mixed reviews from scouts: Tebow last played organized baseball in 2005 as a junior Nease High School in Florida, where he was an all-state player and hit .494. When asked about the prospect of signing Tebow last month, Mets General Sandy Alderson quipped, "Are you insinuating we need a Hail Mary at this point," according to NJ.com. He added, "That's not something we've given a lot of thought to. I'd say it's probably unlikely, but that's without any real information on his baseball background. So we'll keep an open mind." The athlete currently works as an on-air sports analyst for the SEC Network, and will continue in that role during his training. He will also continue working with his charity, the Tim Tebow, which does everything from granting wishes for sick children to organizing proms for people with special needs. After being cut by the Eagles, Tebow told PEOPLE, "Disappointments come, but you can't dwell on them. You have to look for the next thing that God would have you to do." (People)
After 30 years of dominating the fashion scene, supermodel vet Christy Turlington hasn't slowed down one bit. The 47-year-old star, who began her career with Calvin Klein and Maybelline, now has just another magazine cover, Town & Country, to add to her innumerable count. In the October issue of T&C, the model opens up about her stance on plastic surgery, aging and more. For a woman who has spent most of her life in front of the cameras, Turlington says that she's never felt pressure to alter her appearance with cosmetic enhancements. In fact, she told T&C that she'd "never" even consider plastic surgery or Botox because it looks "freaky." "For years these things didn't even exist: collagen, fat cells, the crazy stuff people do I cannot imagine," she told the mag. "First of all, I have no time. Second of all, I don't think it looks good." She added: "Maybe I would think differently if I thought it looked good and it didn't hurt and it didn't send bad messages to young people. But I've never seen someone who I've been like, 'Oh, that's a good idea.' It looks freaky to me." And she maintains the same approach to growing older as she always had: a relaxed one. "I wasn't worried about aging at 16, and I'm not worried about it at 47," she said. "It's a fact of life, and it's good that people close to me see that I'm relaxed and okay about aging, not neurotic or worried about it." "To my kids I'll be the mom who barely shaves her legs, who doesn't color her hair," she said. "Being who you are, being your best self, has nothing to do with what you look like." (People)

Kanye West Confirms He's "Working on a Bunch of Music" With Drake. It's the musical collaboration fans could only dream of, until now. If we told you weeks ago that a new album with both Drake and Kanye West could be in the process, you may have just laughed at us. After all, Drake is currently on a huge tour with Future while Kanye is busier than ever including his Yeezy Season 4 collection that just debuted at New York Fashion Week. But in a new interview with Vogue, the "Stronger" rapper delivered a huge surprise that will be music to any fan's ears. "We're just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio," he shared with the publication. "We're working on an album, so there's some exciting things coming up soon." And before you ask: No, a release date has not been announced quite yet. Just last month, speculation of a possible collaboration began when a mysterious billboard appeared in the Los Angeles area. According to Billboard, the large green sign read: "Calabasas is the new Abu Dhabi." In addition, the logos of Kanye's label G.O.O.D. Music and Drake's OVO sound were featured at the bottom of the billboard. If that wasn't enough to get you pumped, Kanye recently dropped a hint at a possible collaboration during Drake's OVO Fest in August. "Toronto, I got one question for you. Is y'all ready for this album?" Kanye shared with the crowd. "Now, I'm not talking about Pablo. I wasn't talking about Views. I wanna ask y'all right now, y'all ready for THIS album?" He then pointed to Drake, who came out on stage. Coincidence or something more? Only time will tell. (Eonline)
Keeping it in the family. Kanye West announced on Wednesday, September 7, that he's signed his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, Tyga, to his G.O.O.D. record label. The rapper revealed the news at a pop-up show at NYC's Highline Ballroom following his Yeezy Season 4 fashion show, telling attendees that he'd also signed Desiigner to his label. Fans and other commenters quickly chimed in on Twitter about the news, with some pointing out that the "Rack City" rapper has his girlfriend to thank for this new career opportunity, but Tyga and West do have a history together -- the "Famous" rapper executive produced Tyga's 2015 release The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty. Others pointed out that it's just the latest act of generosity from the teen makeup maven, who bought Tyga a Bentley after his Ferrari was repossessed at the end of August. Jenner, 19, showed off her magnanimous gift on Snapchat, revealing that the surprise was nearly wrecked after photos surfaced of her shopping for a new car. "The blogs almost ruined it and said me and T were at the Bentley dealership when really it was only me," Jenner said on August 31. "And I had to lie to T and say, 'I have no idea, T, what the story is. I was not at a Bentley dealership.' But I was!" The next Snapchat video showed the rapper, 26, dancing and jumping for joy in front of the Bentley Bentayga, worth at least $229,100. Earlier this summer Tyga was hit with a $480,000 judgment by his former landlord for falling behind in rent on his old Malibu home. Twitter commenters were quick to express their opinions about Tyga's change of fortune on Wednesday night. "If Tyga messes up on Kylie, it's really a wrap for him," wrote one. "Buying him cars, getting him signed to her brother-in-law's label. She's his mother." Others were excited about the news. "Tyga music about to improve just watch," wrote another. (US Weekly)

After taking two song requests for "The Fever" and "Thundercrack," Springsteen gave a nod to the City of Brotherly Love with a performance of his Academy Award-winning song, "Streets of Philadelphia." Muriel's Wedding is headed for the stage. Global Creatures will join forces with Sydney Theatre Company for the 2017 world premiere of Muriel's Wedding The Musical, producers announced Thursday. The new production will play Nov. 6 through Dec. 30 at Sydney's Roslyn Packer Theatre. PJ Hogan, who wrote and directed the 1994 Miramax comedy starring Toni Collette, is penning the book for the show, which will also include original music from Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall. The new tracks will, of course, be joined by beloved ABBA songs written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson. Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) will direct, and Gabriela Tylesova will design sets and costumes. Like the original Australian film, Muriel's Wedding The Musical centers on Muriel Heslop, the ABBA-loving romantic who dreams of the perfect wedding, despite never having gone on a date. The musical's book will be updated, as the show description notes that the titular, Sydney-bound heroine "ends up with everything she ever wanted -- a man, a fortune and a million Twitter followers. That's when things start to go really wrong." (Hollywood Reporter)
BMI Again Tops $1 Billion in Collections, Breaks Record for Royalty Distributions. Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), of the two leading performance rights organizations in the U.S., collected $1.06 billion during the year ended June 30, a 4.64 percent increase over the $1.013 billion collected the prior year. Of that, BMI distributed $931 million to its member songwriters and publishers, up 6.16 percent from the $877 million paid over the year ended June 30, 2015. While BMI president and CEO Mike O'Neill says in a statement he is pleased with the fiscal gains, he adds that "the ability to provide our songwriters, composers and publishers with our largest royalty distributions to date proves that the current marketplace is working efficiently, a fact the DoJ has undermined with its recent interpretation of our consent decree." O'Neill is referencing a recent decision made by the Dept. of Justice that allows a songwriter to license their work, regardless of whether they were its only author or were part of a team. Performance rights organizations like BMI and publishers are vehemently against the rule change, an argument which O'Neill lays out in his statement. "We're eager to build on this [financial] success and continue to ensure that all of our music creators are fairly paid for their work and that licensees maintain full access to BMI's repertoire of nearly 12 million songs," O'Neill continues. "As of now, the DoJ's interpretation will disrupt these efforts, stifle creative freedom for songwriters, limit choices for music users and bog down the marketplace. We are determined not to let that happen." BMI has filed a lawsuit challenging the DoJ's decision. Getting back to its fiscal results, BMI says domestic licensees paid in $784 million, with $276 million coming from foreign receipts, a drop of 5.48 percent from the $292 million brought in from outside the U.S. in 2015. Foreign receipts appear to have peaked in 2014, when that revenue stream brought in $307 million. "That goes to the strength of the dollar against the falling pound and euro," O'Neill explains. "Currency exchanges took about $30 million out of the revenue stream [in the recently complete year versus the prior year], but about half of that, or $15 million, was offset by growth." Considering how much BMI paid out in distributions, it suggests the organization's expenses were about $129 million for the year, or 12.17 percent of revenue, down from 13 percent. "What's great is we are budgeting for increases in every category, except expenses," O'Neill tells Billboard. "This is an efficient market." Domestically, BMI said $492 million in payments to the organization came from television, cable and radio; $152 million from digital licensees; and $140 million from general licensing. While the first and last category are only up slightly from the prior year's performance, BMI's digital revenue grew nearly 51 percent, from $100.7 million. Moreover, BMI says it processed more than one trillion transactions during the year, that's double from two years ago in the period ended June 30, 2014. "We believe we can handle a trillion transactions more efficiently than anyone," O'Neill says. BMI represents 750,000 songwriters and music publishers, with nearly 12 million musical works. "Our job is to put money back in the songwriters pocket and I think we do a great job of that," he says. (Billboard)

Nicolas Cage Tapped for Humanitarian Prize at Celebrity Fight Night in Italy. The Oscar-winning actor is scheduled to be honored as part of an extravagant 7-day affair to benefit the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. Nicolas Cage is heading to Europe where he will receive the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award at the third annual Celebrity Fight Night in Italy. The award will be presented to the Oscar winning actor at a gala event, which is being packaged as part of a 7-day fundraising trip from Sept. 7-13. Funds raised benefit both the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. More than 100 philanthropists are traveling to Italy to participate in the "benefit trip" where Italian designer Stefano Ricci will help kick off the itinerary in Florence on Sept. 8, by welcoming guests through the Basilica di Santa Croce, also known as the Temple of the Italian Glories, where Italian notables like Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni and Galileo Galilei were laid to rest. After exploring the Cappella dei Pazzi, the evening will conclude in the Cloister of the Basilica with dinner and music, led by Bocelli. The next day, guests depart Florence on a drive through Tuscany to Lajatico (birthplace of Bocelli) where Andrea and Veronica Bocelli will host an event with guest of honor Cage. Highlights include aperitifs at the Teatro del Silenzio, and a gourmet dinner at the country home of the Bocellis with entertainment by David Foster, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Peter Cetera, Colbie Caillat and Bocelli. Additional guests expected to attend include Evander Holyfield, Melissa Peterman, and others. The following day, guests will board a privately chartered train to Venice for a day of exploration. Lunch will be served at the Palazzo Pisani Moretta on the Grand Canal. After lunch, guests will enjoy a gondola ride to St. Mark's Square. The pinnacle of the 7-day experience will be a gala on Sept. 11, when guests will walk the red carpet in the Salone dei Cinquecento at the Palazzo Vecchio. Bocelli, along with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the direction of Zubin Mehta, will headline the evening. Ali's wife, Lonnie Ali, will be honored for her philanthropic efforts, having been a part of Celebrity Fight Night along with her late husband for nearly two decades. The event concludes with an evening in the heart of Florence, starting at the Palazzo Spini Feroni, home to the Global Flagship Headquarters of Salvatore Ferragamo and the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo. The Ferragamo family will welcome guests with a cocktail and a visit to the museum and the shop, followed by dining and dancing. The 7-day experience is sponsored by Stefano Ricci, GVM La Civiltà del Marmo, Peak6 Best Marble, Ermanno Scervino, Falconeri, Fratelli Piccini Firenze, Mikimoto, Jeep, Fregoli Luxury Bags, Salotti del Gusto, Excellence Magazine and Euro-Toques. Celebrity Fight Night Foundation was founded in 1994 by Jimmy Walker to support the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, as well as other charitable organizations. The Andrea Bocelli Foundation was created in 2011 to help people in need due to illness, poverty and social exclusion by promoting and supporting Italian national and international projects that support overcoming these barriers and full self-expression. The foundation will direct proceeds from Celebrity Fight Night to its projects in Haiti. (Hollywood Reporter)
Eleanor Coppola Opens Up About Directing a Film at Age 80 and Her Son's Tragic Death. Twenty-five years after directing the 'Apocalypse Now' doc 'Hearts of Darkness,' the helmer is making her narrative feature debut with the autobiographical Toronto entry 'Paris Can Wait' which sources say her nephew Nicolas Cage dropped out of. "I'm this housewife who suddenly decided to write and direct a film." It all began with a cold. In 2009, Eleanor Coppola was accompanying her husband, Francis Ford Coppola, to the Cannes Film Festival when she fell ill and decided to stay behind and rest as he traveled on to Budapest. A French associate of Francis' offered to drive her to the Paris airport. But what should have been a seven-hour trip turned into a three-day adventure filled with wine, truffles and sweeping vistas. It jolted the then-73-year-old out of her everyday ennui. For while Coppola was an accomplished visual artist and Emmy-winning director in her own right, she had stifled many of her creative ambitions to nurture the filmmaking careers of her husband and children, Sofia, Roman and the late Gian-Carlo. "It was just one of those experiences that you can only have in France, and it made such an impression on me," recalls Coppola while strolling the grounds of her Napa estate in Northern California. "I was telling a friend about it when I got back, and she said, 'That's a movie I want to see.'" Her sybaritic (yet platonic) road trip became the genesis of Paris Can Wait, a romantic drama about a woman married to a Hollywood heavyweight who embarks on a three-day road trip with a flirty Frenchman. It's Coppola's narrative feature debut -- at the age of 80. Although she isn't the oldest person to direct a first feature -- that distinction belongs to Takeo Kimura, who was 90 when Dreaming Awake was released in 2008 -- her accomplishment nonetheless is extraordinary. The film, which stars Diane Lane, Alec Baldwin and Arnaud Viard, premieres Sept. 12 in Toronto. "I'm this housewife who suddenly decided she's going to write a film and actually direct it," she says of the late-life pivot. "It was terrifying, but part of the challenge was cutting through all of your fears and just going for it." Admittedly, Coppola's career path has been nonlinear. Raised in Orange County by a homemaker mother and a father who was a political cartoonist for the Los Angeles Examiner, she went to UCLA and met Francis while working as an assistant art director on his 1963 horror film Dementia 13. Not long after they began dating, the couple learned she was pregnant with Gian-Carlo and had a shotgun wedding in Las Vegas. As a young wife and mother, she made murals for restaurants and hotels. But the work petered out and Francis would take the family on location, so Coppola missed out on commissions. "I grew up in the '40s and '50s, and a woman's role was to support her husband and make a nice home for him," she says. "I was frustrated that I didn't have much time to pursue my interests. Young women today have no concept of that. My daughter and her generation, and generations after that, they take for granted that they're going to do whatever is their calling. There's not going to be a question of their role or if they have to give it up because they're a wife and a mother." But Coppola still found a way to feed her creativity while raising three children -- first by penning the 1979 memoir Notes on the Making of Apocalypse Now and then by co-directing the 1991 Showtime documentary Hearts of Darkness, an unvarnished look at the on-set madness of Francis' 1979 movie about Vietnam. Not surprisingly, Francis fought the idea of her making the film for more than a decade. "Even then when it came out, he was not happy because he felt like it made him look too out of control," she says of her Emmy-winning film. "But my reaction is it really shows the creative process and the depth of anguish that it can be. I think now he's gotten over it." Holding a camera with one hand while guiding a child with the other became a satisfying balancing act for Coppola. She made four other docs, and not surprisingly, all three children pursued film -- Sofia, 45, is the Oscar-nominated director of Lost in Translation and Roman, 51, the Oscar-nominated writer of Moonrise Kingdom. Gian-Carlo was a budding producer, having worked on several of Francis' films, when he died in 1986 at age 22 in a high-profile boating accident. Griffin O'Neal, son of Ryan O'Neal and poised to star in Francis' Gardens of Stone, was piloting the boat. Coppola never has talked publicly about the tragedy. "It was the most profound experience I ever had," she says. "It does just stop you in your tracks. What else can you do? You have to just go through that process of deep grief and let it sink to the bottom. ... For Francis, I think it made him want to work harder, like he could kind of camouflage his pain." O'Neal was charged with manslaughter and pleaded guilty to negligent operation of a boat. (He received an 18-day jail sentence for not performing community service as ordered.) But Coppola harbors no ill will. "I'm sorry that he had the upbringing that he had and life that he's had," she says. "He's suffered. I just had to really experience the whole thing in order to come back and go on in a productive way." For Coppola, the slow path to self-discovery brought her full circle on Paris Can Wait. In 2015, she had raised the $5 million budget and was two weeks into production when her leading man fell through. She declined to name the actor, but sources say it was Nicolas Cage, her nephew. Baldwin came on, keeping the film together. "It was frustrating because it was an actor I had raised money on, but he was on a huge-budget film, and it was delayed and they wouldn't release him," she says. "It was a whole trauma." Ultimately, she suppressed what she calls "anxiety attacks" and finished the film, a journey eight decades in the making. As for her next move, Coppola is noncommittal. She just wrapped a short film that she shot on a lake in Northern California. She's mulling a series of watercolors. And though she's that rare octogenarian being asked about a follow-up feature, Coppola says she's not sure. "I have the freedom to follow whatever is kind of urging me on, and I just go with that," she says. "I'm kind of amused that I did this, sort of laughing along, 'Cool, you did that?' " Adds Coppola, laughing: "Anyway. To be continued." (Hollywood Reporter)
Box-Office Preview: 'Sully' Buckles Up for Strong Takeoff as Fall Commences. Screen Gems' surrogate thriller, 'When the Bough Breaks,' is also expected to scare up good business; Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media releases its first movie since emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Warner Bros. and Clint Eastwood's Sully -- starring Tom Hanks as the real-life pilot who crash-landed a US Airways jet on the Hudson River -- looks to dominate the skies this weekend in what Hollywood hopes is a heroic start to the fall box-office season. The adult biographical drama is pacing to open between $20 million-$25 million, a strong number for both Eastwood and Hanks, according to predictions. If it comes in on the higher end, it would match the opening of Hanks' 2013 fall drama Captain Phillips. Sully recounts the tale of US Airways Flight 1549, otherwise known as "Miracle on the Hudson." The plane, piloted by Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger (Hanks) and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles (Aaron Eckhart), was met with disaster minutes after taking off from New York City's LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 15, 2009 when a flock of Canadian geese disabled both engines. With no other option, Sully was forced to make a water landing on the Hudson River. All 155 passengers and crew survived, with Sully becoming an instant hero. Eastwood's movie is based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Sully and Jeffrey Zaslow. Sully, which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival over Labor Day weekend, currently sports a 78 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The weekend's other major new nationwide offering is Sony/Screen Gems' thriller When the Bough Breaks, starring Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall as a childless couple who hire a surrogate, only to be caught up in a deadly game. Directed by Jon Cassar, the film co-stars Romany Malco, Michael K. Williams, with Theo Rossi and Introducing Jaz Sinclair. Sony insiders are projecting an opening in the $10 million-$12 million range, but When the Bough Breaks could debut in the high-teens, according to projections. On the same weekend last year, Screen Gems' The Perfect Guy, also starring Chestnut, debuted to $25.9 million. At the 11th hour, Ryan Kavanaugh's Relativity Media has decided to open The Disappointments Room nationwide in conjunction with a major VOD push. The horror film, directed by D. J. Caruso and starring Kate Beckinsale and Lucas Til, is the first title Relativity has released since emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Disappointments Room is tracking to gross $2 million from an estimated 1,500 theaters, according to predictions. (Hollywood Reporter)
Toronto: 'Amanda Knox' Filmmakers Reveal How They Got Her to Talk, Debut Guilty-Not Guilty Trailers. Documentarians Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn spent five years interviewing all the principals involved in the infamous case in their efforts to tell the untold story. For the new documentary Amanda Knox, Netflix has cut two diametrically opposed trailers. One is titled Believe Her. The other is called Suspect Her. For while the case at the center of the film may be nearly ten years old, but it remains something of a hot-button Rorschach test. True crime tales don't come much more lurid than that of Meredith Kercher, the British student who was brutally murdered in Peruga, Italy, on Nov. 1, 2007. Her roommate, Amanda Knox, an American student spending the year abroad, and Knox's new Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were arrested and convicted of the murder, only to have their convictions overturned in 2011 after they'd spent nearly four years in prison. Tried again in 2014, they were once again found guilty, then finally exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court in 2015. Throughout the serpentine court proceedings, the case commanded international headlines, especially in the British tabloids, who dubbed Knox "Foxy Knoxy." But despite the blanket of media that had covered the story, filmmakers Rod Blackhurst and Brian McGinn were convinced there was more to discover when they began exploring making a documentary in 2011. "People weren't looking past the headlines to understand what had happened. They had developed these passionate ideas of who these people were, but nobody seemed any closer to figuring out what had really happened despite the global media scrutiny," says Blackhurst. McGinn adds that the previous coverage "had really been led by the new click-bait journalism. We felt there was a place for the personal, human side of the story -- to actually hear from the people involved." Their persistence paid off, and five years later, their documentary feature Amanda Knox will have its world premiere Sept. 9 at the Toronto Film Festival. It arrives on Netflix, which acquired the film once it was well underway, on Sept. 30. Although the longtime friends -- Blackhurst, 35, directed the 2016 horror thriller Here Alone, while McGinn, 31, has been working on the Netflix series Chef's Table -- first approached Knox, now 29, in 2011, she didn't agree to sit for the first of three interviews until 2013 when it became clear that a second trial would take place. "The way it progressed," says McGinn, "people agreed to participate in the film according to when they felt their side of the story was not being heard." Ultimately, they secured on-camera sessions with Knox; Sollecito; Nick Pisa, a British tabloid journalist who'd often led the breaking story; and the Perugia prosecutor Giluliano Mignini, who whipped up the argument for Knox's guilt and who agreed to speak only once Knox's second conviction was overturned. Unlike many of the other journalists who interviewed Knox or Mignini during the course of the case, the two filmmakers made it clear from the start they were not approaching the story with an agenda of their own and that the interviews would not be confrontational. Says McGinn, "It was important to form some sort of connection. We were a couple of young guys from the states. We had not experienced anything like what Amanda had gone through or, for that matter, what Magnini had gone through. Our goal was to let Amanda, Mignini, Sollecito and Pisa drive the conversation and reveal things about themselves. With that in mind, it was very different than the goal of an ABC news program with Diane Sawyer or a lot of the other public appearances Amanda had made where it was really considered a forum to discuss 'Did you do it?' or 'Did you not?'. That was really never the way we came at the story." The filmmakers photographed their subjects sitting center-screen, talking directly to the camera, in a style reminiscent of Errol Morris' ground-breaking documentaries. "There had been a lot of circumstantial thoughts and feelings, this aura that had been created around each of these people," says Blackhurst. "We thought if we could center them in the middle of the frame, have them speak directly, making eye contact, to you, the audience, we could strip away a lot of that noise that might influence how you felt about them." The doc has other film references as well. When it first cuts to the Italian countryside, the music cue is the song "Tu Vuo Fa L'Americano," which Anthony Minghella also used in his 1999The Talented Mr. Ripley, another film in which an American abroad gets caught up in murder. "There a few nods to other films in the movie. We're certainly a big fan of that film," says McGinn. Adds Blackhurst, "We're hoping too that there is a little bit of our love for David Fincher's films that comes across in some of the stylized visual moments in the movie." One of the themes that emerged as they assembled the movie, McGinn says, was "a recognition of the way our society commodifies tragedy." Adds Blackhurst: "What we found, editing the movie, is people make judgments based on how they feel and not on what actually is. [That] influences how stories are told in the news and on social media. Living with this story for so long, and living with the changes that happened to these people in the case, allowed us to find that and end up with a conversation that is bigger than this story itself." Although the film ultimately makes the case for her innocence, Knox herself is under no illusions when she faces the camera and says in the film's opening moments, "If I'm guilty, it means I am the ultimate figure to fear. On the other hand, if I'm innocent, it means everyone's vulnerable. And it's everyone's nightmare." (Hollywood Reporter)

Suits' Patrick J. Adams Explains Why the Time Was Right for That Major Change: "It's Not Our Show." Warning: The following contains spoilers from Wednesday night's episode of Suits. If you haven't watched yet, consider yourself warned. Proceed with caution. And just like that, Mike Ross is out of jail. Of course, it didn't happen just like that. No, in typical Suits fashion, it took a great deal of dangerous maneuvering on Mike's behalf to make sure the circumstances were just right so that his buddy Kevin (Erik Palladino) could always walk free while the nasty Gallo (Paul Schulze) got locked away for an even longer sentence. But by episode's end, Mike was once again a free man. And, according to star Patrick J. Adams, it couldn't have happened any sooner. Adams revealed to E! News that it was a fine line the show had to walk to punish Mike for his crime in a way that showed it was serious, while also making sure not to irreparably damage the foundation of the show. Luckily, they'd experienced a similar situation once before. "The last time we had Mike leave the firm and go to Sidwell Investment Group [in season four,] we planned on having that be longer, but we ended up not really knowing how to navigate the show and pulling it back," he said, before adding that Mike's 10-episode stint behind bars felt like the appropriate number to him. "I think if it was shorter, though, you know, Mike being caught for his initial crime of acting as a fraud, because that's the structure of the show... we really couldn't do it any less," he added. "We knew we couldn't do it so fast, but at the same time, when you go too far away... I think that we're in the situation where we have to get back to the flow of the show and get these character back together and see how they go on." He's just relieved that the fans were willing to go along for the ride. "I think there's a lull in which a character like Mike being in prison is a show unto itself. You can sort of have that be a spin-off, if you wanted to, but it's not our show," he said. "We're all really grateful to the fans for being willing to go with us. It says a lot about how great our fans are that they were willing to go with us on this journey that was 10 episodes long and a very different color and feel for our show. I think that we're happy the reward was getting back to what it was before." Adams admitted that returning to the regular sets and leaving the prison world behind was a bit of an adjustment him -- in more ways than one. "It was strange to be putting on a suit again. It had been a while. What also was weird is it's not the same Mike anymore. It's like coming at it from a new angle," he said. "Mike doesn't hold on to any of this shame or this secret anymore, you know? He's free of it. He's done his time. He's out, so there's something, there's a sort of renewed confidence, a renewed maturity to him. It just made me really excited to see who this guy is going to become now that he can finally shake off the weight of this secret he's been carrying around for so long." So, what's next for Mike now that he's a free man once again? According to Adams, that's the question on everyone's mind. "I think that question is really going to motivate our back six episodes [premiering in 2017,]" he said. "I think for Mike, it's a struggle of where he wants to end up. He obviously would love to work with Harvey again, but doing so as lawyer is going to be difficult, so maybe there's another capacity in which he can do it. But at the same time, in his closing statements last year at his own trial, he made very clear that he wasn't interested in wasting his talent anymore just fighting for the one percent... I think that push and pull of who he wants to be and how he wants to do it is going to become the next big conversation of the show and see how that gets put back together again." Now that's Mike's been released, that means there's nothing keeping him apart from Rachel (Meghan Markle). Might those be wedding bells we hear? "Again, I don't know how they're going to tackle it, but I know that there's a lot of love between these two and I think that Mike is going to come out of prison and see exactly what Rachel has been doing and be so proud of her and excited to support her in the way that she supposed him for so long," Adams said, coyly. "I think they're both busy people with a lot going on, but their relationship is really important that I can't see a reason yet -- although I'm sure the writers will throw some wrench into there -- but I don't see a reason yet why they wouldn't want to continue to move along the path and get married as soon as possible. We'll have to see though." Suits' midseason finale airs Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. on USA. (Eonline)
How to Get Away With Murder Is Going Back to School in Season 3. School is back in session across the country -- and on How to Get Away With Murder. E! News recently chatted with HTGAWM creator Pete Nowalk, and he revealed one of the biggest changes for the Keating 5 in season three: they're actually going to class this year. "Obviously these are kids who came to law school. Things happened. We are going to find them in their second year of law school now and they have to basically pick up the pieces and get their s--t together and move on with their lives," he teased." So being a student is going to be a struggle for them, but they need to do it and it's sort of fake it 'til you make it and maybe things will go back to normal." Spoiler alert: "They're not going to go back to normal. I think they have to try!" Despite how little we've seen the kids go to class, they're all moving on to their second year of law school. "What's cool about that is that they do get to take a more prominent role in the court cases in a way that has been really fun to watch and to write so far," Nowalk said. "And it's also really fun to see how much the characters have really grown up. They've been through hell, so they handle things [in a different way]. I think they're basically becoming mini Annalises and that's been pretty fun to watch." Another change? There's no new over-arching case this season. "I always like to change up the formula within the formula. We're still going to have flash forwards and those are going to rock everyone's world. I'm just going out on a limb! I'm going to say that because they rock mine and they terrify me. But they're really big and they're big for the show. So we have those, but we're not really going to do a trial of the season. We have a mystery of the season, but there's no Hapstalls this year. They've got enough s--t to deal with!" In the premiere, we'll catch up with the gang almost immediately after the events of the season two finale before skipping ahead a few months. "Wes' alleged father was just shot in front of him, so we're going to give you some good answers, in a way. You've been waiting a few months, we're going to give you those answers," Nowalk revealed. "And then we're going to move forward. We're going to skip over the summer so they get to take a breath and we start again. It won't be all easy breezy but what I'm excited about is to have their lives be a little bit calmer so we get to explore more the everyday-ness of their relationships, their love lives, their inter-group dynamics. Hopefully it's a little bit more character driven." How to Get Away With Murder season three premieres Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. on ABC. (Eonline)
Gilmore Girls: The First Page of the Reboot Script Includes a Joke About Gwyneth Paltrow's Lifestyle Brand! When the Gilmore Girls revival was announced, there was a ton of excitement ... and just a little bit of trepidation. Would Luke and Lorelei end up together? Would Rory and ... Jess? Dean? Logan? How would everyone deal with Edward Herrmann's death? Would Sookie show up? Well, Lauren Graham was just as nervous the rest of us superfans when she received the scripts. "I didn't read the last episode for the longest time because I was scared," she says. "I loved how everything was teed up in the first three and I, carrying the burden of everybody in my mind, was like, 'Oh God, what's going to happen?' And to me, it was deeply satisfying-and also it answered questions I didn't even think of. I thought, 'Oh how perfect, wow. I wouldn't even have wondered that. '" "I read the first three in one sitting," Alexis Bledel admits. "I was on page 7 or 8 when I remembered: Of course, this is that inviting town where everything is so familiar. And I felt like I was enveloped back into that time and place; wherever it exists in people's imaginations, I was reminded of where it was in mine. It was so easy to just jump back in and get to work. Which is lucky – because I had to the next day." Adds 49-year-old Graham, "Part of what was surreal was that we didn't have much time to look forward to it and prepare. We had wanted to do it for a while, but the amount of time in which it became a reality was really short." While most people want to get the last laugh, Graham was more interested in the first one, which came courtesy of a jab at Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle brand Goop. "I just felt like that's so quintessentially Amy and Lorelai," recalls Graham. "It was then that I was like, 'We're going to be okay.'" Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino exclusively shares the very first page of the script for the first episode, "Winter." (online). Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life arrives on Netflix on Nov. 25. (People)
Derek Hough Came Back to Dancing With the Stars Because It's "Home." When Derek Hough's Broadway debut in Singin' In the Rain was postponed to 2017, he didn't take the gap in his schedule as an opportune time for a vacation -- instead, he decided to work doubletime so he could return to his second home: the Dancing With the Stars ballroom. "Dancing With the Stars is my home; it's my family," he told E! News at the DWTS season 23 cast party. "For me, if I can, I will." Should Hough and partner Marilu Henner last through the end of October, he'll be pulling double duty with DWTS and rehearsals for his role in NBC's Hairspray Live! "I had some other plans, they got postponed, so all the pieces are there -- they just got rearranged," he told us. But despite the potential for some very exhausting work days, he's thrilled about the schedule change. "I'm happy to be here, man! I'm happy to get on the dance floor and put some sequins on!" Hough's costar, Mark Ballas, on the other hand, actually is heading to the Great White Way. Ballas announced this week that he's taking over the role of Frankie Valli in the musical Jersey Boys, and will remain with the cast until the show closes in January. Hough and Ballas were actually classmates -- they trained in London together at the same theater arts school -- and Hough says he couldn't be prouder of his friend. "For him to do this, I'm so happy for him it's ridiculous," he confessed. Hough and Henner make their DWTS debut when season 23 premieres Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Hairspray Live! airs Dec. 7 on NBC. (Eonline)
The Real Housewives of New York City Reunion Part 2: "Lie-Ann" de Lesseps Takes a Licking, Keeps On Ticking. As if it wasn't already abundantly clear, the second part of the Real Housewives of New York City reunion special sealed the deal: When it comes to fiance Tom D'Agostino Jr., Luann de Lesseps does not even slightly care what anyone has to say. She's got the ring, she's got the wedding date, she won. So why should we still care? In spite of the mounting evidence against him and regardless of the claims from friends she's had for nearly a decade, Luann has made up her mind and is standing by her man. If it doesn't bother her that he's told inconsistent stories about how many times dates he went on with Ramona Singer, why should it bother us? If it doesn't give her pause that he's repeatedly attempted to gaslight Sonja Morgan and call her description of their sexual relationship "delusional," why should it give us pause? If she's able to forget Ramona's smoking gun -- a Radar article dated September 17 clearly linking the Singer Stinger and Tom romantically that Luann's supposedly brought up on multiple occasions -- at the drop of a hat, then why can't we? Poof! Forgotten. Watching Luann in action was truly something to behold. She was like the Teflon Don -- nothing stuck to her. The photo of the heart he'd drawn on Ramona's hand? Mere child's play! Tom's awkward interaction with Sonja at the engagement party? Sorry, what do you mean "awkward"? (No really, can you define that for her? She might need some help.) A mere mention of Tom dating a younger woman? "He doesn't go with young girls." In the end, Luann made one thing absolutely clear: "Listen, I'm engaged to this man and I'm going to marry him, so back off. Just back off." Even Dorinda Medley, one of Lu's staunchest supporters, had to admit that the sheer mountain of evidence was enough to give anyone pause, but if Luann doesn't care, what good does it do if anyone else does? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Luann is clearly just not very thirsty. "It's a weird universe," Bethenny Frankel marveled as the madness unfolded around her. Indeed. The Real Housewives of New York City reunion special concludes Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. on Bravo. (Eonline)
Jessica Biel to Star in USA Network Crime Thriller 'The Sinner'. The actress also will exec produce the project, which centers on a young mother who commits a public act of violence. Jessica Biel is plotting her return to television. USA Network has ordered a pilot for drama The Sinner, starring and executive produced by the actress, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Based on Petra Hammesfahr's best-selling book of the same name, The Sinner centers on a young mother who is overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage and commits a startling and very public act of violence. Even worse, she has no idea why. The incident launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the who or the what -- but the why. A rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive, and together they travel a harrowing path into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past. Derek Simonds (The Astronauts Wives Club) wrote the pilot and Antonio Campos (Simon Killer) is set to direct. The two will exec produce with Biel and her producing partner Michelle Purple through their Iron Ocean Films banner. Universal Cable Productions will produce the hour-long drama. If picked up to series, The Sinner would mark Biel's first TV regular role in nearly 15 years. She famously got her start on the long-running family drama 7th Heaven but departed the series after six seasons, occasionally making guest appearances thereafter. With the exception of a one-episode stint on New Girl and voice roles on animated comedies BoJack Horseman and Family Guy, Biel has largely stuck to film in recent years with credits such as Valentine's Day, The A-Team and The Illusionist. She is repped by WME, LBI Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman. Campos is repped by UTA, Washington Square Films and Nelson Davis. The Sinner is USA's third pilot order of the 2016-17 development season, joining Damnation and The Tap. Both pilots hail from UCP. The studio is behind a majority of USA's originals slate, with the exception of the network's upcoming Shooter remake, which is co-produced by Paramount TV, and the recently renewed Queen of the South from Fox 21. The Sinner continues USA's descent into darker and edgier programming that began with sophomore hacker drama Mr. Robot, which recently earned six Emmy nominations including best drama series. The NBCUniversal cabler's other upcoming series include the supernatural drama Falling Water and the crime thriller Eyewitness. (Hollywood Reporter)
LIVE! Is Back...But Is Kelly Ripa Any Closer to Finding a Permanent Co-Host? As fans eagerly await the debut of Kelly Ripa's newest co-host, the show managed to get hearts racing with a well-timed tease. After a spring finished with guest co-hosts and a summer of reruns, it seemed like LIVE!'s longtime frontwoman was finally going to name her new on-air partner after declaring a "big announcement" was about to take place during the first week of the show's new season. On LIVE!'s Instagram account, a video popped up promising a surprise that would blow our minds. Immediately, it seemed like one of LIVE!'s repeat trial co-hosts was about to get the coveted seat next to Ripa. However, just as we feared, the announcement was too good to be true. Instead, toward the end of Wednesday's segment, Ripa revealed that the show is going to open its doors to a lucky fan who will be able to try their hand at hosting for the day. "Now you have the chance to prove it," Ripa said in response to claims that her job is easy. Daytime talk show hopefuls have until Sept. 20 to apply online for the spot. While it is certainly a fun opportunity and one we'll all be tuned in to see, it wasn't the grand unveiling hearts around the country had desired. Instead, many were hoping for an end to the guessing game as Anderson Cooper, Jerry O'Connell and Ben Savage have all been speculated frontrunners in the press. While a rep for the show would not comment on any co-host claims, the rumor mill continues to churn, particularly now that the summer has ended and fall is upon us. "We need to start looking because we have summer hiatus, we have vacation time. We need to find people," Ripa told People in May. "If we're going to have this list narrowed down at least to a manageable size by the fall, we need to start now.'" However, according to a source, there now may be less of a rush to fill the seat permanently. As the source explained, ratings did not dip this summer -- which they often do -- so for now, it's working. (Eonline)
Who ya gonna call? Rob Kardashian makes waves with pregnant fiancee Blac Chyna when he tries to go through her phone in Rob & Chyna's series premiere on Sunday, September 11, as seen in Us Weekly's exclusive sneak peek. The E! series' preview clip shows the Keeping Up With the Kardashians mainstay lounging on the bed with Chyna's phone when she gets a number of text messages. "Who's this hitting your phone over and over?" Kardashian, 29, asks. "And your password's not the same as it was." When the makeup artist, 28, questions why he doesn't trust her, Kardashian fires back, "It's not about that -- it's just that I don't get why you even care if I go through your phone. ... I mean, don't you think that's shady?" For her part, Chyna can't seem to figure out what the Arthur George sock designer could think she is up to. The model, who shares 3-year-old son King Cairo with ex-fiance Tyga, is expecting a girl with Kardashian later this year. "I don't even understand why Rob would even think that I'm doing anything wrong," she tells the camera. "I'm four months pregnant, I have two businesses that I'm running, I'm with King, and I literally don't leave the house. So what could I possibly be doing?" KUWTK's Sunday, September 4, episode featured Kardashian's sisters encouraging him to patch things up with his paramour after the engaged couple's blowout fight. Rob & Chyna launches on E! Sunday, September 11, at 9 p.m. ET. (US Weekly)
'Pitch' Adds Kevin Connolly in Key Recurring Role. The baseball drama marks the latest TV gig for the 'Entourage' grad and Yankees fan. Kevin Connolly is being penciled into the Pitch lineup. The Entourage grad (and avid New York Yankees fan) has booked a recurring role on the Fox baseball drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Pitch -- produced in partnership with Major League Baseball -- centers on Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), a young female pitcher who defies the odds when she becomes the first woman to play in the big league. Connolly will appear in multiple episodes as Charlie Graham, the interim San Diego Padres president of operations. The former Silicon Valley executive is youthful, charming and inspiring. However, his offbeat warmth and enthusiasm belie a steely will and cutthroat bottom-line approach to the business of baseball. The casting brings Connolly back into the Fox and 20th Television family. The actor most recently starred on CBS' Friends With Better Lives, produced by Pitch studio 20th TV, and in a 2015 fantasy football pilot for the network. He also counts Fox's early 1990s comedy Great Scott among his credits. "I've had a great relationship with Fox over the years and am happy to be back," Connolly said. The actor, repped by UTA and 3 Arts, joins a roster of Pitch additions including Josh Peck, Wendie Malick, B.J. Britt and JoAnna Garcia Swisher, among others. The cast also includes Bob Balaban as owner Frank Reid and Mark Consuelos as the GM and president. Pitch premieres Sept 22 on Fox. (Hollywood Reporter)
Caroline Manzo and her family clearly aren't afraid of the dark-or sleeping in jail cells. In an exclusive sneak peek at Sunday's Manzo'd with Children premiere, the 55-year-old matriarch embarks with her husband and kids on an adventurous evening to an abandoned jail. As the family walks through the dimly lit cells, the tour guide tells the group, "You're going to be staying in cell block 12, which was the worst of the worst." "I'm going to freak out," Manzo's son-in-law Vito Scalia says as he walks through the dark halls. "You're a big man, Vito," Manzo assures him as the group descends on Al Capone's jail cell, where the gangster was held in 1929 for carrying a deadly concealed weapon. "That's f---ing $1,700 a month in Hoboken. Say what you want," Christopher Manzo jokes about the upscale jail cell, which was outfitted with a bed, chair, lamp, desk and heater. "The warden says he got no special treatment whatsoever; he was treated just like every other inmate here. But of course people don't write bribes down," the tour guide tells the group. "Kind of like how people say celebrities in jail don't get any special treatment." "That's what they say," Manzo responds. Asked in her interview if celebrities get "special treatment" in jail, the Real Housewives of New Jersey alum denies knowing any "real celebrities"-and throws some major shade at Teresa Giudice. "I don't know any celebrities that have been in jail – real celebrities that have been in jail," Manzo says as she takes a jab at her former RHONJ cast mate. In October 2014, Teresa and Joe Giudice were sentenced to prison for a combined 56 months for mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud. Manzo'd with Children season 3 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo. Patrick Dempsey and Noah Wyle may no longer star as TV doctors, but the actors are donning scrubs and medical coats once more in an effort to save lives nationwide. Dempsey, who starred on Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Derek Shepherd, and Wyle, who starred as Dr. John Carter on E.R., have joined forces with health service company Cigna to promote annual check-ups as a way to improve an individual's health. During their time on set shooting the TV Doctors of America campaign, both Dempsey, 50, and Wyle 45, were awestruck by 80-year-old Alan Alda, who played Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce on M.A.S.H.. "I think we were all in awe of Alan Alda. We grew up with him and it was great to meet him and to see what he's doing," Dempsey told PEOPLE of working alongside Alda. "And then to listen to his stories about what it was like for him when he was doing M.A.S.H. and what his life was like after that." Dempsey continued to add that the veteran actor played a significant role on him joining the campaign. "When Alan Alda agreed to do it as well," he said, "it made a big difference for me." Wyle echoed Dempsey's sentiments of the M.A.S.H. actor, revealing to PEOPLE that he, "would follow Alan Alda to the ends of the earth. Anytime he's anywhere, I tend to want to show up." The E .R. alum also shared a fond memory of Alda during his time on set- where he said "the laughter was infectious"-with his fellow TV doctors, remarking on the 80-year-old's speed and "energy." "I would say the most amusing part about it was we started with this whole sequence where we were pushing a gurney down a hallway and everybody was being very deferential and sensitive to Mr. Alda's age and saying 'We don't have to go very fast' and 'We're only going to go from here to there' and 'Do you feel comfortable?' and 'Does the floor feel slippery?' and Alan outpaced us all. He had more energy than the rest of us," Wyle said. Though Dempsey and Wyle starred on competing networks' hospital-centered dramas, the TV doctors can at least now agree on one thing: the other medical series they'd appear on if they had the choice. "Oh my gosh, M.A.S.H.," Wyle said without skipping a heartbeat. "I'd have to go with M.A.S.H. I grew up watching [it]. Hawkeye Pierce was a childhood hero of mine. That was the first time that I really sort of saw how comedy and drama can be blended together and in half an hour, you can move an audience from gut-splitting laughter to absolute tears. I thought it was just phenomenal." Dempsey said of also selecting M.A.S.H. as his TV pick: "There are only a handful of doctor shows that really have worked if you think about it. M.A.S.H. being one of them. That was the first that sort of tied in the drama, the sense of humor and then, later on, more social issues of that time where they were pushing it more towards the latter part of their run. So it would be nice to go back to that to be on that show certainly." Wyle, who appeared on E.R. from 1994 to 2009, recalls the frequent conversations about the need for check-ups from his TV days on the medical drama. "I remember when I was doing E.R., they were talking about how with so many Americans going without health insurance, emergency rooms were often times being used as the front line as general practitioners for most people's basic health. People were waiting way too long until symptoms were unignorable before going in and getting them treated. Often times they were going to get treated by an emergency physician," Wyle told PEOPLE. "I was disheartened to hear that that trend hasn't really stopped. It strikes home in terms of we tried to get the message out there 10 years ago about how important it is to take a proactive look at your own health and how many lives can be saved annually just with people being in the know about their blood sugar, blood pressure, body mass index and cholesterol." Dempsey said of the importance of the campaign, "I think the important thing here is really get into your doctor and get those physicals. You are looking at the data and you're seeing that there's a significant change if you just simply go and do that and have that dialogue with your doctor," and added, "Understanding your family dynamics and medical history and communicating that with your doctor is very, very important." Fellow TV doctors Lisa Edelstein (House) and Donald Faison(Scrubs) will also appear in the multimedia platform. The five TV doctors will use their prominence to help influence consumers to get annual check-ups and know their key health numbers for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and Body Mass Index with the campaign goal of saving up to 100,000 lives a year. Who Should Win Best Actress in a Comedy Series? Julia-Louis Dreyfus is up for a record five-straight wins, but the competition is stiff among the other five nominees. This category is on Emmy steroids. There are more than 50 career nominations between just half of this year's nominees, not to mention the amount of statues actually taken home. One of the most awarded actresses not just in Emmy history but, well, history, Lily Tomlin earned her second consecutive nomination for Netflix's Grace and Frankie, on which she plays an art teacher whose life is turned around when her husband leaves her for her rival's husband. Tomlin has won five Emmys, but none in the lead comedic actress category. Another Emmy veteran is Laurie Metcalf, who received a best actress nom for her performance as Dr. Jenna James, an uptight director of medicine, on HBO's Getting On. Metcalf is also nominated for two other Emmys this year, both for guest spots, on Louis C.K.'s web series Horace and Pete and CBS' The Big Bang Theory. Metcalf has 10 total nominations in her career and had a three-peat of supporting comedic actress wins on ABC's Roseanne in 1992, 1993 and 1994. The field only gets more competitive from there, as Julia-Louis Dreyfus earned a fifth-straight best actress nomination for Veep, in which she plays the foul-mouthed politician Selina Meyer. Dreyfus has been making history in the role: Her four consecutive wins in the role since 2012 tied a record set by Helen Hunt on Mad About You from 1996-99, while last year's win also tied a record five lead comedic actress wins (Dreyfus won in 2006 for The New Adventures of Old Christine). Amy Schumer, star of her own sketch show, Inside Amy Schumer, on Comedy Central got her second Emmy nom this year. Schumer has never won an Emmy for acting, but she did take home the award for best variety sketch series last year. Rounding out the field are first-time noms Tracee Ellis Ross, up for her role as a progressive mother and anesthesiologist on ABC's Black-ish, and Ellie Kemper, who plays the quirky titular character on Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Who do you think should take home the best comedic actress Emmy this year? (Hollywood Reporter)
(British Glamour)
Melissa George Hospitalized After Allegedly Being Assaulted By Longtime Partner Jean-David Blanc. This is just so awful! According to French news outlets, Heartbeat star Melissa George showed up at a police station in Paris at 3 a.m. on Wednesday with reported facial injuries allegedly caused by her longtime love. As you may know, Miz George currently lives in the City of Lights with her partner of four years, Jean-David Blanc, and their two children. To make matters worse, it's said Melissa was brought to the Cochin Hospital after she claimed she felt faint and was suffering from pain. On the alleged assault, one publication revealed: "According to statements by the actress ... she was assaulted by her companion, also father of their two children. The police were called Wednesday night to intervene in the centre of Paris. In shock, Melissa George, had a swelling of the face and complained of pain, nausea and dizziness." Poor thing! Other sites have since reported that the Grey's Anatomy alum has accused the AlloCine founder of physical abuse. However, there is no news on whether Blanc was arrested or charged for the reported incident. Melissa and Jean-David initially met back in 2011 at a BAFTA after-party and by 2012 the twosome had started dating. The couple has two sons together, Raphaël and Solal. Stay tuned for more details as this story is developing. (Perez Hilton)

The USOC dropped the hammer on Ryan Lochte because his full punishment includes a ban from the next swimming National Championships meet ... which could put his swim career in jeopardy. Lochte is also banned from visiting the White House with the rest of Team USA Olympians. TMZ Sports broke the story ... He has to return the money he was awarded for winning a gold medal at the games ... perform 20 hours of community service ... and he will have no access to training centers. The National Championship ban -- which falls outside his 10 month suspension -- is a real shot, since it also means Lochte can't compete in the World Championships.
(US Weekly)

Tenacious D Spin-Off Band Valyrian Steel Pens Ode to 'Game of Thrones' Hero Jon Snow's Election Victory. If you're sick of the mud-slinging and character assassination of the real presidential election, and you're a Game of Thrones fan, chances are you voted in HBO's recent side contest for the "GOTParty." After a fierce competition pitting family, rivals and friends against each other, candidates Jon Snow and running mate Lyanna Mormont (35%) won a squeaker vote over Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister (32%), Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark (31%) and Cersei Lanniser and Qyburn (2%) thanks to more than 1.6 million votes. Bruce Springsteen Plays Longest U.S. Concert, Over 4 Hours. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band treated their fans in Philadelphia on Wednesday night to their longest U.S. show in history. Clocking in at 4 hours and 4 minutes, with 34 songs played, the concert at Citizens Bank Park surpassed the previous record of 4 hours, set at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Aug. 30. Several Springsteen bloggers and fan sites confirmed the record. Wednesday's concert was the second-longest of the band's career, with a 2012 set in Helsinki, Finland, still holding the record at 4:06. It was a special night for the Philadelphia crowd, who were treated to a set that focused primarily on selections from Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle for the first 10 songs. After taking two song requests for "The Fever" and "Thundercrack," Springsteen gave a nod to the City of Brotherly Love with a performance of his Academy Award-winning song, "Streets of Philadelphia." Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band continue their The River Tour on Friday with another show in Philly. (Billboard)
'Muriel's Wedding' Stage Musical to Debut in 2017. The new adaptation of the 1994 film, which starred Toni Collette, will make its world premiere in Sydney and feature beloved ABBA songs. Muriel's Wedding is headed for the stage.
(Billboard)
