ON THIS DAY

On this date in 1644, the very first UFO sighting was reported by Pilgrims who had recently settled in the New World.
  • Of course, back then, they were called Thou-F-O's... thou, instead of you... oh, never mind.
  • I can just see aliens surveying the situation and saying to themselves, 'They don't look very fun. Let's get out of here!'
  • A town hall was quickly organized so everyone could talk about what they saw, organized by Ezekiel Springer.
  • The Pilgrims reported seeing something in the sky they couldn't explain. I feel the same way every time I see a Kardashian on TV.
  • I'm pretty sure that's the day Regis landed.
  • Then again, to the land's original inhabitants, THEY were aliens.
  • You can read the entire story in the book, "Closeth Encounters."

In 1788, the first English settlers arrived in Australia's Botany Bay to establish a penal colony. Back then, there were only a dozen or so Hilo Hattie's. It's not that big of a deal in history, I just wanted to say "penal" on the air.

On this date in 1911, a plane landed on a ship, the U.S.S. Pennsylvania, for the very first time. The pilot's first words as he crawled out of the cockpit: "You guys got any gas?"

In 1912, English explorer Robert Scott and his expedition arrived at the South Pole. Actually, his sled dogs found the pole first... but they were close behind.

On this date in 1939, Louis Armstrong and his Orchestra recorded "Jeepers Creepers." To this day, no one knows where she got those peepers.

In 1943, a ban on pre-sliced bread went into effect in the U.S. The idea being, if it's not sliced, you don't need slicers... and that metal could go more towards fighting World War 2. Sound logic to me.
