UPDATE: Closure of westbound I-10 ramps at SR 83 rescheduled for Wednesday
Rain has delayed the closure of the on- and off-ramps from westbound Interstate 10 to State Route 83 until Wednesday (Dec. 16).
Paving operations on westbound I-10 east of Tucson will require the ramps connecting westbound I-10 and SR 83 (Exit 281) to be closed to traffic Wednesday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
During the ramp closures, the following detours will be in effect:
- Traffic coming off of SR 83 destined for westbound I-10 will take the westbound frontage road approximately one mile to the Wentworth/Colossal Cave traffic interchange (Exit 279) to return to westbound I-10.
- Westbound I-10 traffic bound for SR 83 will continue to the Wentworth/Colossal Cave traffic interchange (Exit 279) and return to SR 83 on eastbound I-10.
- Vehicles wider than 12 feet will be required to exit at Wentworth/Colossal Cave (Exit 279) to access Sahuarita Road.
The paving operations will be from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays and also will require the following travel restrictions on westbound I-10 through Thursday (Dec. 17):
- Right lane of westbound I-10 will be remain closed at State Route 83
- The left lane of westbound I-10 will be closed at State Route 90
The work is part of a $15.1 million project to repave approximately 17 miles of I-10 in both directions and replace the westbound I-10 bridge at Davidson Canyon, located 20 miles east of Tucson.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
