UPDATE: Equipment problems delay paving work on I-10 between Tucson and Benson
(Equipment problems have delayed paving work on westbound I-10 today, including the planned closure of the ramps at Empirita Road, which remain open. A lane restriction is in effect on westbound I-10 east of Empirita Road where the asphalt has been removed. Work on the shoulder of eastbound I-10 is ongoing and ADOT will provide updated information on the new paving schedule when it is available.)
Paving operations will continue on westbound Interstate 10 between Tucson and Benson this week, with the addition of the closure today of the on- and off-ramps at Empirita Road and lane restrictions on eastbound I-10 for related work.
The following travel restrictions are scheduled on weekdays through Wednesday (Dec. 23):
Westbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane in locations between the junctions with State Route 90 (Exit 302) and State Route 83 (Exit 281). The lane closure at any given time will be two miles in length and the restriction will be in effect between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
On Monday (Dec. 7), the on- and off-ramps on westbound I-10 at Empirita Road (Exit 292) will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Motorists can access Empirita Road destinations using eastbound I-10.
Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane in locations between State Route 83 (Exit 281) and State Route 90 (Exit 302) weekdays through Wednesday (Dec. 23) for work on the shoulder.
No work will be done from Thursday (Dec. 24) through Sunday (Dec. 27) in observance of Christmas.
The work is part of a $15.1 million project to repave approximately 17 miles of I-10 in both directions and replace the westbound I-10 bridge at Davidson Canyon, located 20 miles east of Tucson.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
