TODAY IS

Kelly Osbourne celebrates birthday number 32. There's someone who will make you appreciate your parents even more. She, of course, is famous for... uh, being famous.

Simon Lebon of Duran Duran turns 58 today. Not surprising, he likes wines from Walla Walla and goes to Little Caesar's for Pizza Pizza. Some say he's the "Duran" in Duran Duran. They just don't say which one.

Golf Hall-of-Famer Patty Sheehan turns the big 6-0 today. She's the golfer that protested out in front of former President Bush's house, right? Wait... I think I'm confused.

Lee Greenwood, who gave us "God Bless the USA," turns 74 today. If you've never heard the song, it's basically an attempt to Make America Proud Again. No doubt, a red, white and blue birthday cake again.

And now for something completely different -- John Cleese of Monty Python fame turns 77 today.

Scary Black Cat Day -- Black cats have been feared since the Middle Ages because back then people thought the devil and his demons took a feline form to stalk the earth. But while it's considered to be bad luck if a black kitty crosses your path, it's considered good luck to own one.

Navy Day -- established way back in 1922 by the Navy League of the U.S. Although it was not a national holiday, October 27 was suggested by the Navy League to recognize Theodore Roosevelt's birthday. Roosevelt had been an Assistant Secretary of the Navy and supported a strong Navy as well as the idea of Navy Day. In addition, October 27 was the anniversary of a 1775 report issued by a special committee of the Continental Congress favoring the purchase of merchant ships as the foundation of an American Navy.
