Restrictions this weekend on I-19 at the Santa Cruz River south of Tucson

Nightly restriction on San Xavier Road to follow starting Monday, Oct. 31

Motorists traveling on Interstate 19 and on San Xavier Road south of Tucson will encounter travel restrictions starting this weekend while the Arizona Department of Transportation make repairs to the I-19 bridge over the Santa Cruz River.

The following restrictions are scheduled starting Friday, Oct. 28:

The right lanes of both northbound and southbound I-19 will be closed at the Santa Cruz River bridge starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 and continuing around the clock until 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during this weekend restriction.

San Xavier Road, which leads from I-19 to the nearby Mission San Xavier del Bac, will be reduced to a single lane for traffic in both directions from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly Monday, Oct. 31 through Wednesday, Nov. 2. Crews will use flags to direct traffic through the area where the two-lane road is narrowed to one lane. Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but it’s possible that unscheduled closures or restrictions might occur because of weather or other factors. For the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center at www.az511.gov or call 511, except while driving.
