ON THIS DAY

On this date in 1513, Explorer Juan Ponce de Leon claimed Florida for Spain. Actually, he said, "Senors"... people thought he said "Seniors" and the rest is history.

In 1766, the first patent was granted for a fire escape.
Unfortunately, the patent was lost in a fire, but fortunately, everyone got out OK.
How nobody thought of escaping from a fire before that is beyond me.

On this date in 1879, milk was sold in glass bottles for the first time.
Finally, the milk man didn't have to take the cow from door to door.
Up until then, it had only been sold in cows and very hard to wedge into your refrigerator.
Of course, the toughest part was holding that bottle under the cow to have them fill it up.
The most common reaction was, "That's great, but now can someone invent the refrigerator?"

In 1953, the very first 3-D movie, "Man in the Dark," was released. The sequel, "The Man in the Dark gets a Flashlight", demonstrated the technology much better.
