FACTS ABOUT EMAIL YOU NEVER KNEW
Email is so ubiquitous we just assume everyone has an email address, just as everyone has a telephone number. And while we send more than 100 billion emails every day -- from business communications to bad jokes -- how do we really use email? That was the question researchers from Yahoo! Labs wanted to answer so they evaluated and dissected the email habits of some 2 million users as they exchanged 16 billion emails over several months, making this one of the largest studies ever conducted on email usage, reports ABCNewsRadio.
Five facts about email you probably never knew:
1. How quickly do we reply to emails?
Almost all of us (90 percent) reply to emails within one day of receiving them, but about half respond in an average of 47 minutes. However, the most frequently occurring reply time in this study was just two minutes.

2. Who is most adept at replying?
Teenagers and kids answer their emails faster than any other age group, averaging just 13 minutes to reply but send a response that is, on average, only 17 words. Older users (51 and over) take the longest to reply at 47 minutes with an average message length of 40 words.

4. What is the best time to send an email?
If you want a fast and more complete reply to your email, send it early in the morning. Not surprisingly, emails sent on the weekend or overnight elicit slower and shorter replies.

5. What slows down replies?
If an email contains an attachment, don't expect a quick reply. In addition, people who receive 100 or more emails a day only answer about five of them, on average. Young adults age 25 and under handle an email avalanche far more efficiently than older people.
