Paving work scheduled on State Route 86 east of Sells next week

Motorists traveling on State Route 86 east of Sells will encounter travel restrictions next week while the Arizona Department of Transportation continues paving work in the area.
Paving work will be done daily Monday (Sept. 14) through Saturday (Sept. 19) from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m.During the paving operations, a pilot vehicle will escort motorists traveling in both directions through two-mile segments where the two-lane highway is restricted to one lane.
Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected between mileposts 115 and 120.
The work is part of a project to widen a segment of SR 86 (Ajo Way) to provide a 12-foot travel lane in each direction, construct eight-foot paved shoulders and add turn lanes in selected locations.
The paving work is expected to be complete by mid-October.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
