Paving on I-17 between New River Road and Coldwater Canyon Road begins next week

Drivers should expect minimal delays at night during work hours

The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin repaving Interstate 17 northbound and southbound between New River Road and Coldwater Canyon Road (mileposts 232 to 245) starting on Monday (Aug. 1).

Crews will be removing a layer of the existing pavement on the roadway to allow for a new layer of smooth, quiet rubberized asphalt. Paving operations, guardrail installations, bridge work and other miscellaneous improvements are expected on I-17 for the next six months.

Work hours are 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, Sunday through Thursday nights. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions through the work zone during work hours.

For next week, crews will restrict a lane southbound at New River (milepost 231 to 232) to place temporary concrete barrier.  Crews will also be doing survey and guardrail work southbound between mileposts 232 and 245, a moving lane restriction will be in place through the work zone.

The $10.8 million project will include the removal of a layer of the existing pavement and application of a new layer of smooth, quiet rubberized asphalt. The project is scheduled to be completed by summer 2017.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
