Plan for Seventh Avenue closure and Interstate 17 restrictions as bridge repair continues

The Arizona Department of Transportation continues to make a critical bridge repair on Interstate 17 at Seventh Avenue in Phoenix. The next phase of work is scheduled to occur this weekend and the following closures and restrictions will be in place:

· North and southbound Seventh Avenue will be closed at Interstate 17 for bridge repair work from 9 p.m.Friday, Dec. 8, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11. Detours: For northbound Seventh Avenue, use the southbound I-17 frontage road to northbound Central Avenue to the northbound I-17 frontage road. For southbound Seventh Avenue, use the northbound I-17 frontage road to southbound 11th Avenue to the southbound I-17 frontage road.

· Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane at Seventh Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, to 12:30 a.m.Saturday, Dec. 9, while crews set up temporary concrete barrier.

· Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes at Seventh Avenue from 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, to 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, for concrete-barrier work.

· Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane at Seventh Avenue from 3 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, so crews can remove temporary concrete barrier.

Drivers should slow down, use caution and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the active work zone.

One of the bridge girders was damaged in October when it was struck by a truck hauling oversized heavy equipment up Seventh Avenue. Learn more on the project website.
