Are You Ready For Some Halftime?

Super Bowl 53 is still a long way off (okay - but we know it won't be the Bills), but ET Online claims to know the halftime show already. Two sources say it's Maroon 5 - and that they have "pretty much accepted." The band itself, fronted by The Voice coach Adam Levine, has not commented, but Levine has in the past made it clear he'd love to perform there. As for the NFL, it says in a statement, "It's a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show. We are continuing to work with [longtime sponsor] Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show." The big game will be played at Atlanta, Georgia's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Feb. 3, 2019. (ET Online)

High School Shop Class Honors Veterans

More than 40,000 veterans are homeless, per Department of Housing and Urban Development numbers. A high school shop class in New Mexico is making sure at least 18 of them have a dignified ending to their lives. Teens in the wood and metal shop class led by Gino Perez at Valley High School in Albuquerque have crafted 18 wooden urns that will be used to hold the ashes of veterans. Perez, himself a Navy veteran said, "I wanted to make it real clear the status of these Americans-they're mostly homeless and they were also veterans with full military honors and nobody claimed their bodies." Currently, such veterans' ashes in the state are placed in a black cardboard box and buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery as part of the Forgotten Heroes Burial Program. Perez said, "It's a lot more dignified, in my opinion, to be encased in wood." The urns will be used in burials at the cemetery in October. (CNN)

Remember... Spelling Counts

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific airlines has an embarrassing problem. They had to send a brand new passenger jet back to the paint shop after they misspelled the company's name along the side. Somehow it ended up as "Cathay Paciic." But it wasn't until the plane was in use that anyone even noticed. Eagle-eyed travelers spotted the mistake at Hong Kong International Airport and contacted the airline. The company tweeted: "Oops this special livery won't last long! She's going back to the shop!" Guy Who Made 3D Gun May Soon Be Making 2D License Plates

Cody Wilson is the founder of Defense Distributed - the company that has been selling blueprints for people to make 3D guns. The legislation text from a court order bans giving the plans away for free so Wilson decided to sell them instead. More than 1,000 people reportedly downloaded blueprints for the AR-15 before Judge Robert Lasnik blocked the release and the free download file was removed from Defense Distributed's website. Well Mr. Wilson may soon be moving from 3D guns to making 2D license plates as he has been charged with sexual assault after allegedly having sex at a hotel with an underage girl for $500! The girl told Austin police that she created a profile on SugarDaddyMeet.com. Austin police said Wilson used the name "Sanjuro" on the website before meeting up with the girl in August. (KSAT News)

Huffing Paint and Beating Mom with a Spatula is No Way to Live Life Son!

Out in West Virginia, 30-year-old Glenn Casdorph was arrested for allegedly huffing spray paint and then beating his mother with a spatula. Casdorph, who's reportedly known to local authorities for sniffing spray paint, was taken into custody after St. Albans police responded to reports of a domestic incident. When an officer arrived at the scene, Casdorph was reportedly sitting in the front yard with his face and hands covered in spray paint, holding a large steel bar. Another officer found Casdorph's mother inside the home with her head "wrapped with gauze" along with "a large amount of blood on her shirt and the back of her neck." (WCHS-TV)

Nude Gardening... Because Florida!

In the town of Stuart, Florida, residents are up in arms about a man who does yard work and walks around his property in the nude, but deputies said there is nothing they can do about it. Melissa Ny, a neighbor of the naked man told reporters, "I came out Sunday night to put the trash out, and I look over and he is bent over, winding up his hose, and I'm like that is my view of the neighborhood. He works on his car, and he does it naked and everyone has called the police, he is just out there doing his yard work, whatever he needs to do outside, naked." The naked truth, according to deputies, is that as long as our friend is not touching himself inappropriately, authorities cannot do anything because he is on his own property. When approached by reporters, the nude gardener declined to be interviewed saying he and his family were private people. But Ny responded, "If they are private, why are your privates on display? That is not private at all, that is very public!" (WFTV News)

A Very Clean Rescue

In Pennsylvania, a Woodlawn Fire Company rescue crew was dispatched on a report of a 10-year-old girl stuck in a washing machine. The girl's mother told emergency dispatchers that her daughter had climbed in the top-loading washer but could not free herself. The extrication appeared to have been trouble-free and the girl was out within 10 minutes. The rescue crew reported the girl was not injured, but she was quite dizzy... and apparently missing a sock. What the What?

Meanwhile in India, an Uber passenger claims that his driver was so drunk, he had to take the wheel and drive himself home. Surya Oruganti tweeted about the incident, which occurred in the city of Bengaluru, the capital of the southern state of Karnataka. He said that when he boarded the Uber vehicle at Kempegowda International Airport, he immediately realized that the driver was a different person from the one indicated in the app and that he was about-to-pass-out drunk. Rather than allow the inebriated driver to continue, Oruganti had him move over to the passenger seat, and he designated himself driver for the trip. Uber did call him back after about 20 hours, Oruganti said in follow-up tweet: "They said I shouldn't drive a cab because that's a safety issue. And that they'll educate the driver, whatever that means, and might terminate the driver if there's recurrence." (SFGate)
