Barrier placement scheduled on SR 86 west of Tucson on Friday

Motorists traveling on State Route 86 west of Tucson may encounter delays Friday (April 29) while the Arizona Department of Transportation sets up concrete construction barrier on the highway shoulder in numerous locations.

Intermittent lane closures will be needed from 6:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. between the junctions with Old Ajo Highway and Continental Road (mileposts 159-162). Delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected.

The concrete barrier is being placed in areas where drainage culverts will be extended as part of a $41 million project to improve SR 86 (Ajo Way) between Valencia and Kinney roads.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule. To stay up-to-date with the latest highway conditions around the state, visit the ADOT Traveler Information Center atwww.az511.gov or call 511.

For more information about this project, please call C.T. Revere, ADOT Senior Community Relations Officer, at 1.520.705.3574 or email at crevere@azdot.gov.
