Kelly Clarkson Gives Birth to Son Remington Alexander Blackstock. Kelly Clarkson and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, have finally welcomed their bouncing baby boy into the world! The singer gave birth to her second child Tuesday. "Our little baby boy has arrived!!" Clarkson tweeted Thursday. "Remington Alexander Blackstock was born 4/12/16 & he is healthy & we couldn't be happier or more in love!" Clarkson first announced her pregnancy during a Los Angeles concert in October, taking everyone (including her hubby) by surprise. She told the crowd, "This is not how I wanted to announce [that I'm pregnant]. My makeup artist is backstage hating me. I didn't want you to think I'm on pills or something." She continued, "I would like to apologize to my husband. This was not planned. I'm just so hormonal. Everything is great, I haven't vomited yet. That's a win y'all." The singer was referencing the severe struggle she faced during her complicated first pregnancy with River Rose. "I vomit a good dozen times a day. It's, like, bad. I vomited before coming out here," the American Idol winner said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December 2013. "I'm not even kidding. It's so bad. It's so bad. It's, like, so gross. And that's the thing, too: You're not attractive when you're pregnant." She continued, "Everybody tells you [that] you glow and your hair is pretty and your nails are pretty. That is total crap. My nails are short, my hair still falls out -- it's not all lush and beautiful -- and I have no glow. Unless it's, like, something left over from a bad throw up. It's horrible." Thus, Clarkson made sure she was extra prepared for her second pregnancy. In an interview with CBS This Morning in November, she said, "I'm familiar with all-day sickness. I have to get IVs and fluids because I get so dehydrated. It's really bad." Well, we're excited to hear that the new mama-of-two is staying healthy now after giving birth. Congrats to Clarkson and her growing family! (Eonline)
Ellie Kemper Is Pregnant! Actress and Husband Michael Koman Expecting First Child Together. You guys, Ellie Kemper is totally hashbrown, pregnant! The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star is expecting her first child with husband Michael Koman. The 35-year-old actress made the exciting announcement during a taping of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, according to Us Weekly, who first reported the story. Kemper reportedly kept the pregnancy a secret while shooting the second season of her Netflix series, and only confided in show creator and gal-pal Tina Fey. Kemper tied the knot to her writer beau in New York City back in 2012 during an intimate ceremony which was witnessed by some of their famous friends, including Kristen Wiig and Mindy Kaling. Days before her big day, Kemper dished to E! News about her wedding plans, saying her experience as a bridesmaid on- and offscreen didn't help her one bit when it came to planning her big day. "In real life, I've been a bridesmaid like a dozen times and after doing that movie I thought maybe I'll have some insight into wedding planning, but I took none of that insight," Kemper told E! News at the time. "I'm as, panicky, as uptight as any bride ever was." Well, let's hope the journey to motherhood is a little less panicky. Congrats to the parents-to-be! (Eonline)
T.I. is now in the business of delivering babies -- his own, anyway ... we'll see if he branches out. Our photog caught up with the rapper at LAX and asked him a slew of questions about the birth of his third child with Tiny earlier this month -- and, according to Tip, he's a full hands-on dad. It's pretty hilarious, except we don't think he's kidding. Also ... it's pretty clear our photog doesn't understand child birthing. As for T.I. ... he's got a handle on this parenting thing. (TMZ)
Kevin Hart Might Be Quitting Stand-Up Comedy Forever. Kevin Hart might be moving on, and fans won't be too pleased. The comedian said Wednesday at Las Vegas' CinemaCon that he might be done with stand-up comedy forever, according to Variety. "I don't know if I'm ever going to go out and do it again," Hart told theater owners, adding that his What Now? adventure was "my last f--king tour." Fans have taken solace in the fact that What Now? is the subject of his upcoming stand-up movie, Kevin Hart: What Now?, so if you didn't get a chance to see him live, you'll be able to see him on the big screen -- a place Hart has become quite familiar with given his success in the Ride Along franchise and Get Hard. The upcoming movie features Hart in the middle of his world tour and ends with his sold-out show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. He was the first comedian to sell out an entire NFL field. His tour ended April 1 with a final performance in Johannesburg, South Africa. Footage of his upcoming movie was played at the Las Vegas convention, the highlight of which was Hart parodying Denzel Washington's character in The Equalizer. Rather than use a corkscrew to take down Russian gangsters, Hart opted for a wine opener and wound up doused in blood. The preview was aired after people got a good look at the latest Jason Bourne installment. "I say that is pretty good," Hart quipped, "but mine is better." Although he kept the funny going from start to finish, whether he was joking about Jason Bourne or entering the presentation like a famous boxer, Hart also turned on serious mode for a moment, telling the audience that he is onboard the laughter-is-the-best-medicine mantra. "I believe that laughter heals all wounds," he said. "It's a goal of mine to make people understand the power of laughter... I'm that person that you can laugh at." (Eonline)
The actress who plays the mom in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was taken to the hospital after a nasty car wreck ... and some witnesses say it was her fault. We're told Lainie Kazan was driving in the Valley Saturday and drifted into an oncoming lane. We're told her Lincoln SUV struck another vehicle head-on. And, of all places, the accident happened right in front of The Great Greek restaurant. For real. Our on-scene sources tell us Lainie and the other driver were both conscious afterward -- but you can see in the pics Lainie's neck was immobilized in a neck brace. Lainie's current condition is unclear -- her rep wouldn't comment. No citations have been issued, but cops tell us the accident is still under investigation. (TMZ)
"That's me photoshopped and drunk!" Emilia Clark couldn't contain her secret to a sexy glow on the cover of Esquire magazine's World's Sexiest Women Alive issue from last fall. "Doing those sex scenes on camera is one thing; but doing it as yourself, I need alcohol," the 29-year-old "Game of Thrones" star shared in a "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" episode airing Thursday. "They just kept giving me vodka, and I was like 'I'm just going to keep the duvet and I'm going to keep the sheet up. And they'd be like 3, 2, 1 go!" While she's got no issue with being nude, Clark shared she'd like to see more naked men on her series. "Damn straight," she told Entertainment Tonight this week of the nudity double standard. "Khal Drogo hasn't been around for a while, so yes." (Page Six)
Just call her Sister Katy Perry! On Wednesday, an El Lay judge decided to block the sale of a former convent which had been at the center of a real estate battle between Miz Perry and a couple of nuns. LOLz! In case you forgot, the Roar singer attempted to purchase the eight-acre estate in Los Feliz, CA for $14.5 million back in July 2015. Unfortunately, the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary didn't seem too keen on the A-lister purchasing their former home and decided to agree to sell the land to restaurateur Dana Hollister for $15.5 million instead. Dramaaa! However, when the archdiocese got wind of this move, they took legal action against the sisters claiming that the women did NOT have the authority to sell the land to Dana. While two of the nuns who live on the property are vehement that it is their right to sell the convent, Archbishop Jose Gomez argues that he alone has the authority to offer up the estate and added that he planned to let the Teenage Dream artist purchase the property. And it seems like El Lay Superior Court Judge Stephanie Bowick agrees with the Archbishop as she ruled in his favor and blocked Hollister's purchase of the convent -- which, in result, voids the deed and purchase documents for Dana. Awkward! Katy's lawyers seem pretty positive that this ruling is a win for the musician, as they think the 31-year-old is now one step closer to snagging her dream property. Although, it's said that the nuns are looking to appeal the court's decision... (Perez Hilton)
Nothing about this is surprising. At all. The most interesting thing about Tyga is without a doubt his relationship with the most famous 18-year-old in the world... but don't tell him that! In not-so-shocking news, the rapper reportedly stormed out of an interview in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday after a journalist tried to bring up GF Kylie Jenner! Apparently, the 26-year-old KUWTK star is currently down under for his Rawwest Alive Tour, but a single question not pertaining to his music elicited this dramatic response from T: "End of interview." Okay... calm down, Tyga. Obviously the only thing people care about is Kylie. We doubt the reporter could even name two songs you sing -- you should have just appreciated the fact that they pretended long enough to ask how the tour was going in the first place! LOLz! (Perez Hilton)
Maybe it's not so bad being beautiful after all! Charlize Theron backtracked on her comments that it's hard for 'gorgeous' ladies like herself to land gritty, Oscar-worthy roles and says that she was misquoted by British GQ for its May issue. "Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that's the end of the story," Theron, 40, told the mag. "How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f--king, gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I've been in the room, and pretty people get turned away first." The South African stunner's complaints immediately sparked debate online, where people poked fun at Theron for grumbling about her uncommonly good looks, but the mom of two insists people misunderstood the point. "It was such an incredible misquote. I'm somewhat shocked by how I got so misquoted," the actress told Access Hollywood at the premiere of her new film, The Huntsman: Winter's War, where she does in fact play the gorgeous, gown-wearing Queen Ravenna. "What I was really trying to say was people always ask me why I play so many characters that are so deconstructed, and my point with that was that how many characters really are there out there for a woman wearing a gown? You have to kind of play real people." "Context is everything," the former model continued. "And if somebody doesn't really get that or it doesn't translate, people can really kind of read stuff so wrongly." The Dior spokeswoman had to drastically alter her appearance for several of her toughest roles. She recently sacrificed her beautiful locks and shaved them down to a buzz cut to play Imperator Furiosa in 2015'sMax Max: Fury Road. The beauty famously won an Oscar for her role as Aileen Wuornos in 2003's Monster, but she had to put on 30 pounds and wear a prosthetic nose to portray the real-life serial killer. Speaking to ExtraTV, Theron added, "I have always been honest that when I was a model 20 years ago it was hard to walk into a [casting] room, and I had to prove myself. Today I'm so lucky that I'm in a place that I don't have to. But I'm grateful for that, too, because it gives you character and it makes you who you are, and you don't want everything to kind of come easy." (US Weekly)
Hulk Hogan Feels "Vindicated," Has Seen "Uptick" in Work After Victory Against Gawker in Sex Tape Trial. Hulk Hogan's career appears to be on the mend since he won his lawsuit against Gawker for publishing a sex tape of him without his permission. The 62-year-old most famous wrestling star in the world, whose real name is Terry Bollea, had sued the website for posing a video of him being intimate with his then-best friend's wife. A Florida jury awarded Hogan $140 million for emotional distress, economic damages and punitive damages. Gawker CEO and founder Nick Denton, who was ordered to pay $10 million of it, had called the trial a "sham from the start." The company filed an appeal on April 4. Meanwhile, Hogan has been in good spirits since his legal victory. "He feels vindicated," a source told E! News exclusively. "For him, a verdict meant people believed him. Right now he's spending time with his wife and just taking a breath for a minute. The trial was a big circus and he's just taking a breath." "In terms of work, there's definitely been an uptick," the source added. "Especially since the trial started in March. People saw the true story and are happy to be in business with him. The companies he's been working with for years have not wavered. LoanMart, for example, has stuck by him. He feels good. He feels like the verdict showed that people believed him. He feels good about his career and things overall." Hogan has appeared in commercials for the finance company 1-800 LoanMart for years. In February, the lender announced a "new creative collaboration" with Hogan, saying he would be featured in more ads. Hogan's career took a turn for the worst last year. In July, more than seven months after the sex tape trial began, World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. announced it had terminated its contract with him after The National Enquirer published a transcript of a tirade in which he allegedly used racially charged language. Hogan apologized for using "offensive language" during a past conversation, adding, "This not who I am." His lawyer said the wrestling star resigned from WWE. Following his legal victory against Gawker, many fans speculated Hogan may make an appearance at WrestleMania 32. He did not. But in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Hogan remained coy when asked if he would be present at WrestleMania 33 next year. "Never say never," he said. During the trial and after the verdict, Hogan received a slew of supportive messages from fans online. His supporters continue to send him positive posts. "The amazing thing is the support among the fans and the people he sees everyday on the street has not wavered," the source told E! News. "He goes out and he's greeted warmly. People stop him and they want to take pictures and talk to him. There has always been and continues to be support from everyone he meets on the street. That's never stopped." "I just wanted to say thank you for everything you have done for me over the years," one fan tweeted at Hogan a week after his damages were determined. "And I am happy to see a good man get rewarded." (Eonline)
Lamar Odom has spoken out for the first time as he continues to recover from his near-fatal overdose six months ago. The former NBA star spoke to Entertainment Tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night while attending former Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant's final game. "I've never been better, especially after tonight," Odom, 36, told ET, praising Bryant's record-breaking game. "He had 60 [points] tonight. He is the world, learned so much from him off the court, on the court, everything kinda translates and life is beautiful." Odom also addressed rumors he's fallen back into bad habits after he was spotted drinking at a bar with friends on March 26, the day before he celebrated Easter with Khloe Kardashian and her family. (Consuming alcohol is especially dangerous for Odom given the fragile state of his kidneys following his overdose, which occurred at a Nevada brothel Oct. 13). "I mean, it gets tough, especially if so much gets speculated" he said. "Only a few people know the truth, and I just keep that close to my heart." Though he remains legally wed to his ex Khloe (she called off their protracted divorce after his hospitalization), a source told PEOPLE Wednesday the reality star "doesn't agree with some of Lamar's choices in the past few weeks" and plans to pick up their divorce proceedings once again. Of Khloe, Odom, 36, told ET: "We did talk, you know, everything is [up for] discussion." "We talk about anything," he said. "We've been through a lot. It won't ever stop." And that's not all Odom revealed-in fact, the former basketball star told ET his next step is to "get back on the court." "I still got it," he said. (People)
Gwen Stefani got a BIG break in her divorce, thanks to Gavin Rossdale, because we've learned he's now on record with the judge walking away from millions of dollars to which he's legally entitled. Gwen and Gavin have struck a settlement which was just filed with the court. Sources connected with the couple tell us Gavin has agreed to a lopsided split of property in favor of Gwen. TMZ broke the story, the couple -- married for 13 years -- did not have a prenup, so under the laws of California Gavin was entitled to 50% of everything acquired during the marriage. Our sources say Gavin did not press to get a big chunk of the money Gwen made from concert and record sales. We've also learned the couple agreed to a 50/50 joint custody arrangement, although Gavin will end up with more than 50% custody of their 3 kids because of Gwen's touring schedule. And we've learned, Gavin is not asking for child support, even though he could have pushed for it and Gwen -- who has significantly more money and earning capacity -- would have been on the hook. All that's left is for the judge to sign off on the settlement, which is just a formality. (TMZ)
Pete Wentz did not get a shady break from the company that hooked up his illegally parked car and then backed off ... because we've learned Pete pulled out his wallet, paid piper, and it was all legal. As we reported, Pete's Porsche was parked illegally on a Hollywood street, so a parking enforcement cop ticketed him and then called the tow truck company. The whip was hooked up to the tow truck when Pete walked up to the car and got the tow truck driver to release it. We've learned Pete followed a little-known law. He paid the towing company's fee as well as an administrative fee. In return the tow truck driver unhooked the Porsche. We found out tow truck companies will let a driver pay even if their car is en route to the tow yard. The tow truck company wants its money and the costs paid, and the driver gets the car back. We're told in Pete's case it cost him $237. Not a bad deal. (TMZ)
"Pretty Little Liars" star Brandon Jones ended a dispute with his neighbor by allegedly pulling out a gun ... and he's now facing serious prison time. Law enforcement sources tell us the argument went down on March 24 ... and the 27-year-old actor was arrested for taking out his handgun and pointing it at a male neighbor. It's unclear what they were arguing about. The D.A.'s Office just slapped Jones with a felony, assault with a firearm. We're told Jones did not actually fire the gun or strike the man with it, but pointed it at him ... which constitutes an assault. Jones was also charged with 2 misdemeanors ... exhibiting a deadly weapon and exhibiting a concealable firearm in public. That second one happened in October 2015. Jones' rep tells us, "It is our understanding that the gun in Mr. Jones' possession was fully legal and registered, that he was on his girlfriend's private property, and that he and his girlfriend felt that they were under threat in a dispute with neighbors." The rep added they're confident Jones will be exonerated. He faces up to 5 and a half years in prison if convicted. (TMZ)
Donald Trump's campaign manager will not be prosecuted for pushing a reporter because of an unreleased video shot prior to the incident showing the reporter in question crossing the line. Sources connected to prosecutors handling the Corey Lewandowski case tell TMZ, the Trump organization gave the Florida State Attorney's Office a video shot shortly before Lewandowski grabbed Michelle Fields at a Trump rally. We're told the video shows a Secret Service agent telling Fields she was standing in a secured area where she was not supposed to be. The agent directed her to the area where the media had congregated. We're told the video shows Fields walking to the media area, rummaging through her purse, and as soon as the agent turned his back she went back to the secured area. We're told there's a second reason the state's attorney will not pursue the case. Trump's people gave prosecutors a sworn affidavit from Barton Brown, the Special Agent in charge of former Attorney General Eric Holder's security. We're told Brown says he reviewed the video and believes all of the actions -- including those of Lewandowski's -- were consistent with what should happen during such a scenario. Lewandowski was charged with misdemeanor battery last month, but the case will not be prosecuted. (TMZ)
A former Mrs. America and home shopping network host has been charged with theft by swindle in a scam that cost Macy's more than $5,000, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in Minnesota. According to the criminal complaint, Jennifer Susan Kline, 50, purchased $2,884 worth of designer clothing from Southdale Macy's on Nov. 5, 2015. The next day, she purchased $2,907 worth of merchandise at the same Macy's. On Nov. 11 and Nov. 30, Kline allegedly returned multiple pieces of clothing to Macy's Mall of America store and was refunded $5,501. A Macy's detective was told about the returns, and upon examining the clothes he discovered that "the tags and labels had been switched on all of the clothing items returned," according to the complaint. Kline, who was crowned Mrs. America in 1989 and had been a host on ShopNBC/EVINE Live, allegedly removed labels from the new clothes and placed them on other clothing items. The complaint also stated that "several of the clothing items returned to Macy's were dirty and showed signs of wear. Due to the label switching, it is not possible to identify the original brand of the item or the store from which the item was originally purchased." The Edina Police issued a search warrant and recovered approximately 24 items of clothing purchased on Nov. 5 and 6 from Kline's home that had allegedly been returned on Nov. 11 and 30, according to the complaint. Macy's sustained a total loss on the items, according to the complaint. Kline first appeared in court on Tuesday, and her next appearance is scheduled for May 9. She is not currently in custody. While she is charged with a felony, she is more likely facing probation, according to a spokesperson from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. Information about her attorney was not available. THE OTHER STUFF . . .
Entertainment Weekly's 4 Captain America: Civil War Covers Preview the Greatest Superhero Showdown in History. Entertainment Weekly can't fit Marvel's heroes on just one cover. Ahead of Captain America: Civil War's May 6 release, the magazine devoted four covers to #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan for its Summer Movie Preview issue. Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Captain America (Chris Evans) are ready to rumble on one side, while Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is raring to go alongside War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Vision (Paul Bettany). Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) are M.I.A. So, how did friends become foes? It all comes down to who should have control over the superheroes. Should it be the collective governments of the world, or should it be the heroes themselves? Steve Rogers (Evans) defies Tony Stark (Downey) in order to protect his BFF Bucky Barnes (Stan), who is suspected of committing a terrorist act. The lines of right and wrong are blurred, causing some alliances to shift. "This is an argument and a struggle with your family, for your family, and against your family," Evans says of breaking up the Avengers. "I think it's much more akin to [disputes] we have in real life. Arguments with your family can be far worse than struggles with your enemy." The movie is already a hit with critics. "Tear away the powers, abilities and egos...and the third Captain America movie is at its core a deep exploration of friendship and family and what sacrifices should be made to hold onto both," USA Today's Brian Truitt writes, noting that Evans and Downey give "outstanding performances." The star-studded film is "overflowing with story," he adds. "It's a gold mine for Marvel nerds that may be dizzying for the rest. Yet the central conflict between superfriends Steve and Tony stays in focus..." The Wrap's Dave White praises the film for serving "serious-minded action that never forgets to indulge in serious fun." Variety's Justin Chang was equally effusive in his review of the blockbuster, writing, "Captain America: Civil War doesn't break the mold; it burnishes the brand, and sets a high but not insurmountable bar." See every detail from Entertainment Weekly's four new covers. (Eonline)
Kate Middleton and Prince William Arrive in Bhutan and Meet "the Will and Kate of the Himalayas." Only one day after an earthquake struck Myanmar, scaring the royals who were on safari Kaziranga National Park, Prince William and Kate Middleton have arrived in Bhutan. This is the royal couple's first trip to the Himalayan kingdom, where the king's half-sister, Princess Chimi, and her husband greeted them at Paro International Airport. Kate walked off the airplane wearing a gold coatdress designed by Emilia Wickstead, which she previously wore in 2012. Later King Jigme and Queen Jetsun of Bhutan -- dubbed the "Will and Kate of the Himalayas" -- greeted the British royals in a private official welcome at Tashichho Dzong, a former monastery that is now used for ceremonial occasions. Prince William, 33, wore the same suit throughout the day, but Kate, 34, changed an ensemble inspired by Bhutanese fashion. Designed by Paul and Joe, the purple skirt with green triangles and gorgeous cream-colored, cape-style top embroidered with black, red and green designs were created out of material woven and sourced from Bhutan. When they first landed Kate wore her hair entirely down but pulled half of it back when she changed her outfit. The British royals are visiting the country in order to create a new connection between the two nations. The close ages of both couples -- King Jigme is 36 and Queen Jetsun is 25 -- will ideally help in their mission. The two royal couples also have plans to dine in a private dinner inside Lingkana Palace. Over the next couple of days Prince William and Kate will make their way to the Tiger's Nest, an ancient Buddhist monastery located 10,000 feet up a mountain. They'll also attend a formal reception at the Taj Tashi Hotel. Before returning to England, Kate and Prince William will return to India to visit the Taj Mahal. (Eonline)
Taylor Swift Gets a Vogue Makeover, Talks Calvin Harris. Recognize Taylor Swift? The "New Romantics" singer, 26, got a glamorous makeover for Vogue's May issue. The photo shoot was conceived as a tribute to Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent Paris' former creative director. Swift has upped her fashion game in recent years, and on May 2, she will take it to another level when she co-chairs the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute's 2016 gala, for the exhibition "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." Reflecting on how her own style has evolved since bursting onto the country music scene in 2006, she explains, "I can look back at an old photo and tell you roughly what year it's from. Going through different phases is one of my favorite things about fashion. I love how it can mark the passage of time. It's similar to my songs in that way -- it all helps identify where I was at in different points of my life." "Theoretically," Swift said she's considered designing her own clothing line. "But I would want it to be something that was relatable and accessible and everyday. I don't see it being couture. I would want it to be reflective of my style. And a lot of things I wear are not highly expensive." Swift has "no idea" what she's going to do next, be it in fashion or music. "This is the first time in 10 years that I haven't known. I just decided that after the past year, with all of the unbelievable things that happened...I decided I was going to live my life a little bit without the pressure on myself to create something." But, she adds, "I'm always going to be writing songs. The thing is, with me, I could very well come up with three things in the next two weeks and then jump back into the studio, and all of a sudden the next record is started. That's an option, too." For now, though, she has a list of "short-term goals" she wants to focus on, like being "a well-rounded person who can make a good drink" and learning how to "save somebody if they're drowning." According to Swift, she does "things like this" all the time. For example, she once "got it in my head that I couldn't do a split, and I was really upset about it. And so I stretched every single day for a year until I could do a split. Somehow I feel better knowing that I can." Swift will also be spending more time with her boyfriend, DJ/producer Calvin Harris. "I'm just taking things as they come," she says. "I'm in a magical relationship right now. And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key...This is the one thing that's been mine about my personal life." Can anyone blame her for being cautious? "You know, I went out on a normal amount of dates in my early 20s, and I got absolutely slaughtered for it," the singer-songwriter tells Vogue. "And it took a lot of hard work and altering my decision-making. I didn't date for two and a half years. Should I have had to do that? No." Swift no longer feels the need to defend her relationships, nor does she feel the need to defend her "squad," which includes everyone from Lily Aldridge to Lena Dunham. "Ugh. I've had people say really hurtful things about me, and so I've kind of learned how to gauge it: 'This is, like, low-to-medium-level hurtful,'" she says. "There are a lot of really easy ways to dispel rumors. If they say you are pregnant, all you have to do is continue to not be pregnant and not have a baby. If the rumor is that you have fake friendships, all you have to do is continue to be there for each other. And when we're all friends in 15 years and raising our kids together, maybe somebody will look back and go, 'That was kind of ridiculous what we said about Taylor and her friends.'" (Eonline)
People Can't Stop Comparing Cruz Beckham to Justin Bieber in The online Video. It looks like we may have a future Justin Bieber on our hands, and he might already be a well-known name to you... Does Cruz Beckham ring a bell? Yes, the 11-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham is making headlines Thursday after the former Spice Girl took to Instagram to share a heart-melting video of her son singing "Hopeful." Not only does he hit every note, he does it adorably, with the cutest little smirk we've ever seen and a demeanor that really, truly gives us pop star vibes. "Super cute Cruz!!" Victoria captioned the video, adding, "@davidbeckham @brooklynbeckham #proudmummy X vb." Between the hair, the slightly raspy singing voice and precious good looks, of course people immediately began comparing him to Bieber, who also captured our attention at a young age. The internet went wild in questioning whether Cruz will end up being the next young pop star to take over Hollywood and already falling hard in fandom over the idea of it. With all the buzz around the comparison, it only makes sense that we take a moment on this Throwback Thursday to look back at the Biebs when he first got his start. (Eonline)
Ernestine is back! Lily Tomlin has reprised her classic, feisty phone operator from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' new ad taking on SeaWorld. PEOPLE has the exclusive First Look at the new PETA spot, which will start running in May, when SeaWorld's tourist season begins. In the clip, scripted by Modern Family writer Alex Herschlag, Ernestine has swapped her phone bank for a more modern headset, but she still remains as gratingly pleasant as ever while fielding complaint calls at SeaWorld HQ. The phone operator answers concerns about small tanks and whale mistreatment with cheerfully ignorant responses from a business perspective: "Yes, the orcas lose teeth gnawing on the concrete walls," says Ernestine in the spot. "But if you were a trainer, wouldn't you prefer to swim with a toothless killer whale?" While public pressure has led SeaWorld to end its captive breeding programs, PETA hopes more awareness and fighting lead the company to release the whales into sea sanctuaries. Tomlin, who was a double nominee at this year's Golden Globes, returns for the second season of Netflix's Grace and Frankie on May 6. (People)
Lamar Odom came through on his promise to take his kids to a Lakers game -- but it wasn't just any game -- LO brought his brood to see Kobe Bryant's final game at Staples Center. Sources close to the situation tell TMZ Lamar flew in his teenage kids, Lamar Jr. and Destiny, on Tuesday ... it was the first time they'd seen LO since visiting him in the hospital in December. The reunion also got a HUGE assist from Uncle Kobe ... 'cause we're told the Black Mamba gave LO tickets to come see his final game and threw in 2 extra for the kids. Kanye West was with them too. We're told Lamar's been making an extra effort lately to build his relationship with Destiny and Jr. Mamba's last game was probably a good start to that. (TMZ)
Drake's Not Alone: Inside the World of Secret Celebrity Social Media. You would think that celebs can't do anything without the world knowing about it, but a few stars have managed to go completely under the radar with secret social media accounts. Case in point? Drake may actually have a secret Snapchat account. Yes, Drizzy has been all up in the Snap doing funny videos and taking silly pictures with the addicting selfie filters and no one knew it was happening! Except the Snapchat king himself, DJ Khaled. During a recent interview with Los Angeles radio station Real 92.3, Khaled was asked who he follows on Snapchat. He responded, "I follow everyone that's in my phone book...I follow Drake, [Rick] Ross..." HOLD UP. Drake? That's interesting. What's even more interesting is the OVO rapper recorded a hilarious Snap promoting the release of the highly anticipated Views From the 6. While the news of Drake having a Snapchat would make any fan leap for joy, there's still one problem -- no one knows his user name! That sneaky champagne papi. However, Drizzy isn't alone when it comes to stars and their secret social media. Here are other celebs who have managed to participate in the wonderful world of social media without letting the entire world know it: 1. Kate Moss: She may photograph for the world to see, but when it comes to her personal Instagram, the supermodel has chosen to keep that life private. Last year, Moss told HELLO! Fashion Monthly that she keeps an account for "spying" purposes. "I don't care about people who post what they're eating or the weather," she said, and instead just uses it to keep up with the trends. "I have to, otherwise I wouldn't know what anyone was talking about." She also reveals something that we all find hard to believe: "I don't know how to take a good selfie. I'm not good at them." 2. Rose Byrne: The actress enjoys posting photos from her personal life from time to time on Instagram, but she doesn't make it accessible to just anyone. Byrne has a modest and private Instagram account, with 311 followers and 193 top secret pictures. Kim Kardashian: The E! star shocked everyone when she revealed via Jonathan Cheban's Snapchat that she actually has her own account, which she would use to lurk on people. "So I was bored in London. I couldn't sleep. And then Jonathan had me open up a secret Snap. Do you wanna know why?" she began. "Jonathan told me that if I followed some of our friends and saw what they really do in their real life, wasted and acting so crazy, I would never be friends with them again." Oh, sneaky! "So, Jonathan is the reason I have a secret Snap and I only lurk and stalk people." However, not long after her announcement, Kim decided to go public with her secret account, and now we get to enjoy her daily life one Snap at a time. (Eonline)
The Met Gala has perhaps the toughest list to crack of any party in the world -- but one guest who was on host Anna Wintour's s?-?-?t list last year was Ricky Van Veen, the techie husband of Allison Williams. In the documentary "The First Monday in May" -- which opened the Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday night, and follows the 2015 Met Gala with the theme "China: Through the Looking Glass" -- Vogue honcho Wintour is seen meticulously scouring a seating chart and dismissively saying to a staffer upon coming across one name, "I thought he wasn't coming." "I know, but then he decided he wanted to come," the staffer tells Wintour. "OK," the editor-in-chief agrees, "can he not be on his cellphone the entire time, then?" She's assured the guest will get the message loud and clear. But while the name of the offending, cellphone-abusing guest is blurred out in the film, multiple sources told Page Six it's Van Veen, the co-founder of the website College Humor, who married Williams last year. Perhaps the techie hubby's cellphone will fit in better this May at the Metropolitan Museum event, since the theme will be "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." A spokeswoman for Vogue wouldn't confirm whose name ticked off Wintour last year, but said, "Ricky was a perfect guest, and we look forward to welcoming him back this year." But "First Monday in May" doesn't bother obscuring the name of another guest it disses -- once-hot actor-scenester Josh Hartnett. Says a Vogue staffer in a phone call regarding the guest list, "We have Dave Franco. And who's the other one you were saying? Josh Hartnett? What has he done lately? Nothing. You guys are all set. You have Kendall [Jenner]." Also at last year's ball were Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Madonna, Katy Perry, and George and Amal Clooney. The film also follows Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute, as he assembles the museum show that the gala celebrates. (Page Six)
A couple of Park Avenue matrons learned some manners from Brooklyn-born Harvey Keitel at the book party for Chuck Pfeifer and his memoir, "Daiwi" (which means "captain" in Vietnamese), at the Racquet and Tennis Club. Keitel was reading a moving passage from the book, which recounts how Pfeifer won the Silver Star for saving the lives of his fellow US Army Special Forces soldiers, when he shushed two very embarrassed ladies who were talking. Also on hand were Maj. John L. Plaster (author of "The Ultimate Sniper"), Gay Talese, Reinaldo and Carolina Herrera, Taki Theodoracopulos, Jay McInerney and Michael Mailer. Some guests came from the Gagosian Gallery, where Fiat heir Jean "Johnny" Pigozzi launched his book, "Pool Party," with Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Carey Lowell with Tom Freston, Meg Ryan, Stavros Niarchos, Adrien Brody and Elle Macpherson. Now a free woman, Teresa Giudice is still barred from seeing her husband, Joe Giudice, in prison. Since his 41-month sentence began March 23, Teresa has not yet been approved to visit him at the facility, a source close to the Real Housewives of New Jersey star, 43, exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly. "All of her paperwork is in, but she's waiting on final approval," the source explains. "It takes longer because she's on probation." The Turning the Tables author recently completed her own 11-month stint for fraud December 23. She was released four months early for good behavior and had to remain on house arrest until February 5. The parents of Gia, 15, Gabriella, 11, Milania, 10, and Audriana, 6, are eager to reunite as soon as they can. "Teresa's upset she can't see him yet," adds the source. In the meantime, she's leaning on a former pen pal: NYC Housewife Dorinda Medley. While Teresa was in prison, Medley, 51, "wrote her fan letters," says a Medley source. "They met when Teresa got out and became best friends!" Before Joe, 43, left for prison, he and Teresa hung out with Medley and her boyfriend, John Mahdessian. Says the source: "All four had the best time!" The Real Housewives of New York City airs on Bravo Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET. Season 7 of The Real Housewives of New Jersey will premiere in July. Lottie Moss has landed her first Vogue cover. It was only a matter of time before the half-sister of Kate Moss received the ultimate Vogue endorsement, which will doubtlessly elevate her modeling career to new heights. The 18-year-old stars on the May cover of Vogue Paris, wearing gold Saint Laurent, alongside model Lucky Blue Smith. The accompanying, somewhat dramatic strapline reads "Glory in the blood". Moss Jr has already appeared in Miss Vogue and Teen Vogue and made her catwalk debut at the Sonia Rykiel autumn/winter 2015 show. She also starred in series of very cool portraits for Calvin Klein in 2014. (British Glamour)
A handful of former contestants from Donald Trump's reality show "The Apprentice" say the Republican front-runner should not be president. Half a dozen past hopefuls of the hit show, including Season 4 winner Randal Pinkett and Season 1 runner-up Kwame Jackson, are planning a press conference Friday in New York to denounce the GOP front-runner's bid ahead of the state's April 19 primary. In statements, the contestants slammed Trump's rhetoric as divisive and accused him of running a "campaign of sexism, xenophobia, racism, violence and hate." "Trump is passionately and strategically reigniting a dirty and divisive culture soaked in a history of prejudice, fear and hate. It is unpatriotic, anti-American, self-serving, regressive and downright lazy," said Marshawn Evans Daniels in a statement. "As alums of 'The Apprentice,' we have had the opportunity to work with Donald in various capacities, including as employees of the Trump Organization," added Pinkett. "Based on that experience and Donald's campaign, we do not believe he is worthy of becoming president of the United States." Trump responded with a harshly worded statement slamming the group as "six failing wannabes" to whom he'd shown nothing but respect. "How quickly they forget," he said in the statement. "Nobody would know who they are if it weren't for me." Trump said he "couldn't have been nicer or more respectful" of the contenders and said they were only looking for publicity. "They just want to get back into the limelight like they had when they were with Trump. Total dishonesty and disloyalty," he said, warning that "They should be careful or I'll play hours of footage of them individually praising me. "Ask how successful they've been since they left," he added. "Six failing wannabes out of hundreds of contestants -- so sad!" Trump has the support of other former "Apprentice" contenders, including Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, who has served as a surrogate and frequent defender of Trump on television news shows. This. Is. SO. Exciting. Selena Gomez has joined James Corden for his journey in to work. Yep, James joined Instagram Wednesday, and his first picture was a car selfie with Selena during the uber popular Carpool Karaoke series. In late 2015, Patti Smith performed Horses in its entirety at New York City's Electric Lady Studios for a small crowd of fans, rock critics and indie celebrities. Most of the crowd attempted to exude a seen-it-all cool while watching the master punk poet at work in close quarters that night; naturally, no one succeeded. By the time it was over, people who write for a living were left fumbling for words. Part of what made her performance of an album older than most people in attendance so exhilarating was that unlike many a "classic album front-to-back" concert, this one found the auteur tweaking, updating and embellishing the LP. While Horses has never not felt vital during its 40-plus years on earth, it was especially alive that night. Fortunately, that live performance of Horses -- recorded at Electric Lady Studios for its 45th anniversary on Aug. 26, 2015 -- finds its way onto wax this Record Store Day(April 16). And luckily, the vast majority of Smith's electricity in the studio that night has permeated the Horses: Live at Electric Lady Studios LP. While Smith's voice on the 1975 "Gloria" cops a youthful sneer, Smith's voice on the 21st century "Gloria" turns into an outright snarl. Similarly, her delivery of "Land" on this LP goes beyond punk -- she bellows parts of the song like an angry prophet. If Patti on Horses 1975 inspired awe, Patti on this Horses inspires awe and a small amount of fear. This new take on "Land" finds her rewriting her lyrics, too, riffing on how the character of Johnny would exist in the 21st century. Smith sings of Johnny watching "the withering of trees, the dying of fish, the dying of whales" on this new version. But unlike many an aging rocker in 2016, her concerns with the modern world never veer into crotchety griping. The new lyrics find her regarding the 21st century with skepticism, but also understanding: "He sees surveillance cameras everywhere he walks," she growls, but adds, "And he sees the reason for that." Similarly, she talks of the "curse" of new technology, but also its "grace." In another departure from the album version of "Land," Smith closes out the song with a fiery return to the chorus of "Gloria." While the concert-opening "Gloria" was invigorating, the second go-round was a gloriously cathartic release of all the pent-up, anxious energy she mined in "Land." (It almost makes you wish she'd included a "Gloria" refrain on "Land" back in 1975.) On album closer "Elegie," Smith extends her lovely dirge into a sort of punk-rock Litany of Saints, where she reads off the names of various deceased musical iconoclasts. Kurt Cobain, Dee Dee Ramone, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, her late husband Fred "Sonic" Smith, Ornette Coleman, Lou Reed -- the list goes on, and sadly, in the half year since then, there are plenty of names to add to it. "To create, to love, to feel joy, to feel joy in this fucking world," is one of the new lines Smith spits out on this album. This LP proves she's still doing all of those things -- and inspiring others to do the same in the process. (Billboard)
Not everyone appreciates the power of bass! It was an emotional night for basketball fans on Wednesday when Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant played his final game against the Utah Jazz. Fans everywhere praised the NBA legend's 60-point performance during his last game. But before Kobe took the court, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea performed the National Anthem -- and the fan reaction wasn't quite as positive. The musician, a hardcore Lakers fan who has had season tickets since 1997, performed the The Star Spangled Banner on the bass. And though Kobe seemed to enjoy the Jimi Hendrix-style performance, not everyone was a fan of the untraditional version of the song. Like clockwork, the haters came out on Twitter to comment on Flea's performance: But it doesn't seem like Flea cares too much about what haters have to say. After the game, he told TMZ what he thought about his performance, saying: "I rocked that sh*t!" That's what this country is all about -- the freedom to not care about what social media trolls have to say! (Perez Hilton)

Disney Is Bringing a Live-Action Peter Pan to a Theater Near You. Add another upcoming live-action film to the list! It turns out Disney is currently developing a live-action movie based on the classic tale Peter Pan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will be getting the feature treatment from director David Lowery, who just tackled Pete's Dragon for the studio. Lowery, who is best known for edgy drama Ain't Them Bodies Saints, will reunite with his Pete's Dragon co-writer Toby Halbrooks for this project. No other details about the film have been revealed. Peter Pan has gotten a couple of treatments over the years. The popular childhood fairy tale got some live-action love late last year with Pan. In the Warner Bros. Pictures movie, director Joe Wright introduces audiences to 12-year-old orphan Peter (Levi Miller), who is determined to find his mother Mary (Amanda Seyfried) in the mysterious land. He befriends James Hook (Garrett Hedlund) and Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara), and together, they must save Neverland from the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman). Along the way, Peter must fulfill his destiny to become the hero forever known as Peter Pan. Also, how can we forget NBC's live musical production?! Disney has multiple live-action properties in the works, including Beauty and the Beast, which is set for a 2017 release, and will be starring Emma Watson as Belle. Benedict Cumberbatch Set to Voice the Grinch in Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It's not every actor who can go from Doctor Strange to Doctor Seuss. Universal Pictures dropped a major casting announcement at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Wednesday afternoon. As it turns out, Benedict Cumberbatch has an early holiday present for all his fans. E! News can confirm the actor will voice the iconic Grinch character in the upcoming holiday classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Set for a November 2017 release date, the movie will tell the tale of the Grinch who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his iconic village of Whoville. Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney are set to direct the holiday favorite. Perhaps the movie role comes at the perfect time. After all, Benedict's son will be a toddler by the time the film is released. Benedict's casting announcement wasn't the only big news to come out of Las Vegas. Universal also announced that Broadway star Trey Parker has joined the cast of Despicable Me 3. Yes, the co-creator of The Book of Mormon and South Park will voice the role of villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who's grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the '80s. According to the studio, he may just become Gru's most formidable nemesis to date. While Despicable Me 3 won't hit theatres until June 30, 2017, an all-new short called Mower Minions will debut in theatres before any and all showings of The Secret Life of Pets. In other words, moviegoers only have to wait until July to see those irresistible minions on the big screen again. (Eonline)
Michelle Rodriguez could not be clearer ... no one can fill Paul Walker's shoes in the 8th 'Fast & Furious' flick ... not even Scott Eastwood. Eastwood's onboard for the new flick, along with Charlize Theron ... but Michelle bristled at LAX Wednesday . . . Scott's a cool dude, but Paul was simply irreplaceable. Walker's death is still a touchy subject for Michelle, who recently confessed she was sad she didn't die before her beloved co-star. (TMZ)
Lucas joins the David Wain-directed biopic starring Will Forte and Domhnall Gleeson. The National Lampoon writers room just got a little bigger. Matt Lucas is joining Netflix's A Futile and Stupid Gesture, the origin story of the humor magazine that became a major force in 1970s comedy. He's attached to an ever-growing cast that already includes Will Forte, Domhnall Gleeson, Emmy Rossum, Matt Walsh and Joel McHale. Lucas will be playing English satirist Tony Hendra, who was the first editor hired by National Lampoon founders Doug Kenney and Henry Beard. Wet Hot American Summer's David Wain will direct the film, which is adapted from the 2006 book by Josh Karp by screenwriters Michael Colton and John Aboud. Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing. Ed Helms is executive producing along with Colton and Aboud. Ben Ormand, Ted Hamm and Sean McKittrick are also exec producing. Lucas first made waves, along with Rebel Wilson, as one half of weird sibling duo in Kristen Wiig's Bridesmaids. He will next be seen reprising his role as Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Tim Burton's Alice Through the Looking Glass. Lucas is repped by WME and Troika. (Hollywood Reporter)
"I use a lot of technology when working with fabrics," said Tam of this year's Met Gala theme. "New techniques with the old techniques are like yin and yang together." If you were one of the 661,509 people who attended The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit in 2011, you might recall the length of the line: hours long and wrapped around the building. But above all, you likely remember the curve of the feathers, the myriad of details both jagged and soft that depicted late designer's genius. "It was just so extraordinary," Donna Karan told Pret-a-Reporter at the premiere of The First Monday In May, a documentary about The Costume Institute that opened the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday. "You saw that exhibit and questioned: could I ever do that? Could I ever have something like that? I think it's a worry on my mind," she laughed. Though the Andrew Rossi-directed documentary provides viewers with an extensive behind-the-scenes look at last year's China: Through The Looking Glass exhibit, it's the McQueen retrospective that launches the recurring argument that fashion is as much an art form as the 19th-century paintings displayed on the museum's second floor. "When you hear the designers talk about creating a story with individual pieces, it very much feels like what happens when you're trying to create a film. That artistry is what this event is about," TFF co-founder Jane Rosenthal said when asked why a fashion-centric film was chosen as a kickoff for this year's festival. Those who walked the carpet were equally eager to champion the film's "fashion is art" theme ("If you haven't noticed I stuck a lizard bookmark in my shoe this evening -- it makes an awful good piece of art," said an Armani-clad Lauren Hutton). But the candidness of the film's subjects about non-fashion issues (i.e. Josh Hartnett's relevance and table settings) was perhaps the most riveting part. "It's fascinating to observe people when they forget that the cameras are there," Rossi told THR before the screening began. "The goal was to develop trust with the subject and hope that you could get intimate moments with them." Among those people: curator Andrew Bolton, director Baz Luhrmann, visionary designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld and John Galliano, and US Vogue Editor/Conde Nast Artistic Director Anna Wintour whose annual gala to open the exhibit each May is a cultural phenomenon in its own right. At Wednesday's premiere -- which was attended by Jane Fonda, Wendi Deng Murdoch, Karolina Kurkova, Shoshanna Lonstein, fest jury members Chloe Grace Moretz and Jason Biggs, and co-founder Robert De Niro -- designers like Zac Posen and Vivienne Tam were already focused on this year's May 2 soiree, which will center around the theme of technology. "Oh yes, I use a lot of technology when working with fabrics," said Tam, who had three pieces exhibited last year. "New techniques with the old techniques are like yin and yang together." "I'm definitely prepping for this year," added Posen, who attended his first gala at age sixteen while interning for the Costume Institute. When asked to recall his favorite moment of all time, he began confidently, "I have many. Last year with Katie [Holmes] was amazing and for the Charles James exhibit..." he trailed off. Much like the movie, Wintour, who moved past him on the carpet, captured his attention and drew him away like a moth to the flame. (Hollywood Reporter)
Our hearts just grew three sizes! On Wednesday during Illumination Entertainment's CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, the studio showed off some footage from their upcoming movies and made a pretty big announcement -- Benedict Cumberbatch will be the new Grinch! That's right, the studio is making an animated version of the classic Dr. Seuss children's book How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the Sherlock actor will be voicing the iconic green meanie! The film, which will simply be titled The Grinch, will be produced by the same studio that made Despicable Me and Minions and is set to be released November 10, 2017. Of course the last person to play the curmudgeonly character was Jim Carrey in the 2000 Ron Howard-directed live action version. Not only was the film a success, scoring $345 million worldwide, but it also won an Oscar for Best Makeup. What do you think about Benedict voicing the Grinch?! (Perez Hilton)

"The Good Wife" almost lost another major character in its final season. Alan Cumming -- who plays the short-tempered campaign manager Eli Gold -- revealed this was going to be his final season whether or not it was renewed for next year. "I decided it was time to go," he told Page Six on Tuesday, "I wanted to leave last season, but then they said they were going to give me more to do and I'm really glad I stayed on because I think it's been a great season for Eli." One of the main reasons Cumming, 51, decided to walk away from the drama was because creators Robert and Michelle King were already set to leave at the end of the current run of episodes. CBS then shocked fans in February by announcing the show would end in May during a Super Bowl promo. "For me, being in the show has always been about their writing and this great tone they have," he said, adding, "I've kind of been in a longer gestation of mourning than other people." "The Good Wife" has lost a few key characters over the years. In 2014 Josh Charles, who played Will Gardner, left the series and the following year, Archie Panjabi, the firm's talented investigator, Kalinda, departed as well. As for Eli Gold getting his own show? Cumming doesn't think it's the best idea. "I think in a funny way Eli's role is more of a sidekick," he said. "He's kind of there to stir up action for the other characters and I think in a way it wouldn't be so great for him to have a show completely on his own." That doesn't mean he won't miss Eli though: "I love him! I'm sorry to see him go." After filming his final scene last week, Cumming jetted off to Los Angeles where he's spending five weeks shooting "Battle of The Sexes" with Emma Stone and Steve Carell. (Page Six)
"It's a replica of a really, really good sight gag," says actor John O'Hurley who played Peterman himself in the sitcom. "The horror. The horror." Or maybe not. The "Urban Sombrero" featured in a classic episode of Seinfeld is now going to actually exist. This week, the real J. Peterman company announced the hat would go into production and be offered through the company's catalog, or as he calls it, the Owner's Manual. On the show, the hat is thought up by Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), but the fashion statement does not go over well with the fictional J. Peterman who exclaims, "The horror. The horror" -- a famous line from Apocalypse Now. The hat will be offered as an exclusive reward through the company's recently launched Kickstarter campaign. "I have resisted the many demands to offer [the hat] in the Owner's Manual catalog because it wasn't an authentic item," says the real Peterman on the Kickstarter page. "But after 20 years, maybe the Urban Sombrero has served enough time in purgatory. Maybe it has earned its authenticity. More importantly, I'm looking forward to wearing mine at our next board meeting." Actor John O'Hurley, who portrayed J. Peterman on the show and now co-owns the actual company, told the Boston Globe he loves the idea. "It's a replica of a really, really good sight gag," he added. The actual Urban Sombrero will be produced in a limited order of 500, available to those backers who pledge $275 or more to the company's fundraising campaign. (Hollywood Reporter)
THR's awards columnist looks at the mounting Emmys campaign for C.K.'s groundbreaking drama series -- and why it's so important for the future of the show and its creator. During the 2014 Emmys telecast, comedian Billy Eichner mocked the trend of websites releasing TV shows, claiming, for instance, that stuck-in-the-past Hotmail was picking up the long-canceled Judging Amy. But this year, for the first time since the internet was introduced as an Emmy-eligible platform in 2008, the TV Academy might actually nominate -- in at least one major category and quite possibly more -- a show from a truly independent website. The show? Horace and Pete, a massively acclaimed 10-episode, multi-camera drama series starring C.K. and other TV royals such as Steve Buscemi, Edie Falco, Laurie Metcalf and Alan Alda. The site? Louis C.K.'s https://louisck.net. Major-category Emmy noms and wins have previously been bestowed upon shows from dedicated internet streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, and Creative Arts Emmy recognition has previously been accorded to shows from network-backed websites (e.g. ComedyCentral.com and CartoonNetwork.com), as well as indies (FunnyOrDie.com, AmericanExpress.com and YouTube.com). But a guy financing, producing and distributing through a personal website -- in this case for $5 for the first episode, $2 for the second and $3 each for episodes 3 through 10 -- a show that subsequently winds up with a major Emmy nom for, say, best drama series or best supporting actor in a drama series (the category in which Alda stands a very real shot)? That's just unprecedented. C.K. has been down a similar path before. Just last year, he released his standup comedy special Louis C.K.: Live at the Comedy Store through the same website that's distributing Horace and Pete. The special cost virtually nothing to make, was sold for $5 a pop and grossed a reported -- and astounding -- $4.5 million in the first two days after it was posted. It also wound up with an Emmy nomination for best variety special and an Emmy win for best writing for a variety special -- although, because it had a subsequent window on FX, that network, which also airs C.K.'s hit comedy series Louie, handled its screeners and other campaign expenses. But Horace and Pete, which hit the web on Jan. 30, has no such support system -- and besides, is a very different sort of show. It's not a C.K. comedy special or even a C.K. comedy series. Rather, it's a gritty throwback to the Playhouse 90 sort of drama series that dominated television during its first Golden Age in the '40s and '50s but to which present-day audiences are less accustomed. For C.K., it represented an opportunity to be a pure artist -- to retain total creative control of every aspect of a production and to not have to do the sort of publicity and promotional appearances that he is obligated to do when he works for a network. He would, however, have to assume all of the cost and risk of such an enterprise -- and, according to the man himself, he is losing the gamble, thus far. "I'm millions of dollars in debt right now," he revealed to Howard Stern on Monday, citing the expense of the production and fewer-than-expected subscriptions. This means that Horace and Pete enters the Emmy race in a position not unlike a show from a broke network would -- except that C.K. is apparently willing to go further into debt to procure it a fair hearing. Within the last month, he retained the services of a veteran Emmy consultant who was integrally involved with the winning campaigns of AMC's Mad Men and Breaking Bad and who immediately began mobilizing a traditional campaign -- on a budget. Already lined up for the show are advertising (not from one of the most popular advertising houses but from a firm that specializes in smaller projects); editorial exposure (Buscemi, Falco and Alda are being lined up for press opportunities, and C.K. will be selectively visible too); and screeners (which will be mailed to all members of the TV Academy in the first week of May). There are no plans, however, to include a "For Your Consideration" event for TV Academy members -- the sort of evening for which many networks fly in talent to participate in a Q&A and host a reception with food and beverages at great cost -- in either New York or Los Angeles, at least for now. C.K. could undertake additional measures to finance his show's campaign. For instance, FX might be willing to license Horace and Pete for reruns, which would provide an influx of cash. Or he could use his own celebrity to rally attention for it -- he doesn't have obligations to do promotional work for FX this season because Louie didn't air new episodes in the last year, so he has a bit more time. But those sorts of steps would be akin to admitting defeat for the maverick. And besides, as he wrote in a THR guest column a year ago, he hates the very idea of "campaigning": "I go to the Emmys because there's just too much pressure not to go to the Emmys, and I don't want to be an asshole. But I feel like the awards are for everybody else because I got what I wanted: I got to have a show on TV, and I got paid to do it. ... I won't [campaign]. If I'm in [L.A.], they'll get me to do a screening and then talk to some goofy guild members, and I never mind doing that because I know who's actually there. It's not some great privileged people that I'm asking for a handout; it's a bunch of folks who are excited every year that they get to go to those panels. And it makes the network happy. But when I was a kid and I found out that people paid to take classes to take the SATs, it made me really mad. I never got over that. It's part of the reason I didn't go to college. I thought the whole thing was rigged and phony." Nevertheless, a vigorous Emmys campaign might serve as the most efficient way for C.K. to save his show and get back in the black, since nothing would drive greater interest in -- and therefore revenue for -- Horace and Pete than some high-profile love from the TV Academy.
